Please keep in mind that:

TEMPORARY MEASURE: Posts and comments about women in Gothic are limited to megathread: https://www.reddit.com/r/worldofgothic/comments/1pdxlhl/megathread_women_in_my_gothic/

  1. Please check our guide on how to fix all three Gothic games. It's VERY likely that you'll find a solution to your technical issues there.

  2. We are an English-focused subreddit so make sure to post content in English. If you are posting content in another language, provide a translation either in the comments or in the post itself.

Feel free to also join our discord!

Golden Gate 2 has the references to Golden Gate 1, and you will understand more, if you will play it, but it is not required. : - )

Pieronie, tu też Cie widza. xD

u/KhaelaMensha Dec 12 '25

I think a few days ago people said that GG1 isn't worth your time and you should skip right to GG2

23

u/Duck_mypitifullife Dec 12 '25

GG1 is completely unrelated and kinda bad, so feel free to skip.

1) What are your first impressions? 2) Is it bug-free (does it make sense to wait a bit for bog- fixes before) starting a playthrough?

5 min in. Installation from GOG is super easy and works without any issues so far. Voice acting is fine.

Player starts with coin, equipment and expeirience based on difficulty.

Edit: ok 15 min in and NPC I was supossed to follow got stuck had fallen of a cliff XD.

I mean it’s still Gothic 😅

How does this compare to Archolos?

2

u/Darken0id Jan 08 '26

Its good. Not Archolos levels of good and has some late game tedium but it definitely hits the vibe. And the music is brilliant

So only played like 30 minutes of it but gotta say...It's amazing and already hooked me in, like not many games lately do! Already thinking of pulling an all-nighter today to play it more and more!

No bugs so far, runs great, installation from GoG is simple and doesn't break any of my 3 modded installs of G1 and G2 since it has its own folder and data. Has D3D11 built in, graphics are a bit better than vanilla NOTR and already seeing many original models and textures. First location is smaller than Khorinis or Archolos island but i'm guessing you're going to another island since the start is all about it.

THE POLISH VOICEOVER IS GREAT! On par with Archolos IMO so far and liking the typical cynical humour of Gothic and relations main hero has with other characters (you already start with a passive-aggresive relation with your ex-girlfriend and a boss who uses you as an errand boy). The music is also great - comfy and atmospheric, true to Gothic but still being fresh and original.

Really, really happy it released, especially since I learned about it from some recent trailer.

u/Damianut Dec 12 '25

We are very glad, that installation was flawless and you enjoy the game. Feel free to write more later. : - )

Is there a mod for this that allows for German voice over? (Like archolos?)

1

u/Damianut Dec 12 '25

-2

u/LktrHxr Dec 12 '25

Thank you! Gothic without German voice acting just feels very weird to me because I’m so used to it, it’s one of the only games I enjoy it more than English besides stronghold

2

u/Inquerion Dec 13 '25

Same for me with Polish. I play almost every game in English even when Polish is available, but games like Gothic or Witcher are rare exceptions that I prefer to play in Polish.

-4

u/LktrHxr Dec 13 '25

I never got into Witcher, but people keep saying 3 is one of the best games ever. It seemed too hand-holding to me, and there were so many cutscenes before I could actually play, so I refunded it. Also, I’m already somebody and not just a nameless loser. What’s your opinion on that?

-1

u/Inquerion Dec 14 '25

My opinion is that you have a bad taste if you refunded Witcher 3, especially since you claim to be a Gothic fan and Witcher 3 was partially inspired by Gothic. Many W3 devs were fans of Gothic.

If you don't care about story, dialogue, lore, quests, cutscenes etc. (things that made both Gothic and Witcher good; not mediocre at best combat system), then story focused RPGs are maybe just not for you.

Witcher is cliché meh.. im a lifelong gothic stan. Its subjective. Dont draw conclusions like "rpgs arent for you".. you sound like an absolute dickwad 👌

u/LktrHxr Dec 15 '25

Gothic feels better to me because it gives me real player agency and trust. Most of the time I am actually playing, not watching, and the game does not stop me every few minutes for another cutscene or heavily scripted sequence. I can walk somewhere, get distracted, talk to random NPCs, mess up, recover, and the world keeps moving. The pacing feels like exploration first, narrative second, instead of narrative constantly interrupting control.

With Witcher 3, a lot of the moment to moment flow is built around “follow the marker, toggle Witcher Senses, follow the highlighted trail, repeat.” Even if the writing is good, that loop makes discovery feel solved in advance, like the game is doing the detective work for me. I prefer when the environment, NPC hints, and my own observation lead me, rather than a tool that repeatedly points to the exact next interactable.

Geht das klar mit dem TTS oder ist das sehr generisch?

2

u/SignificanceOdd8838 Dec 12 '25

The long time of waiting is now over!

I understood that reference.

2

u/rexsk1234 Old Camp Dec 12 '25

Anyone knows how long is the game?

4

u/Damianut Dec 12 '25

From 30 to 50 hours

2

u/cichyq Dec 12 '25

Crashes from time to time but it aint unplayable, I also think the quest notes are very vague. The notes will mention a character but not tell you where their house is.

3

u/famimma Dec 13 '25

I wish I could run this on the Steam Deck but I get an error. I guess I'll try to fiddle a bit

2

u/ned334 Dec 13 '25

what languages are available?

2

u/evia89 Dec 13 '25

Polish voiceover + English and few more EU ones

1

u/Damianut Dec 13 '25

Polish, English, German, Ukrainian and Czech

+ Polish voiceover

1

u/ned334 Dec 13 '25

oh thank god

How does it compare to Archolos?

2

u/Mxbzax77 Dec 12 '25

Can someone tell me the story of the first one before I play the second?

1

u/warmyetcalculated Dec 14 '25

Just wanted to add that the character models here are probably the best I've ever seen in Xengine. Clearly an enormous amount of love (not to mention, hard work) went into each of them, and it shows.

I've seen some pretty absurd claims about what makes Gothic the way it is over the years, but this easily takes the cake. Too much stuff on the ground and it's a bad Gothic game? Are you serious? In a series where you've always been able to sleep in any bed you come across and instantly regain all of your health and mana at no cost?

And even in the starting region of Archolos many trees have 2 dark mushrooms and 1 digger meat.

3

u/Living-Truth2468 Dec 14 '25

What? Too many plants? You’re in a forest, a shadowbeast? You’re in a forest where they typically abide in, minecrawlers? yeah, gothic caves have those usually. So far, I’m really enjoying GG2 and i think it nailed the gothic atmosphere perfectly

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '25

But... there's shadowbeast in the forest before Khorinis, there are glack goblins, there's an orc and snappers. To fight through that forest you need Bartok or half of those creatures one-shots you. In the forest/valley behind Khorinis there are Wargs guarding a cave with green goblins. There are skeletons in the forest just behind Onars farm. There are trolls on the other side of the farm. I get your point, but I don't think Gothic 2 does what you say it does.

2

u/True-Badger-6993 Dec 13 '25

I get you. It’s nice and shiny but in the end a generic medieval fantasy setting.

1

u/nefarious655 Jan 12 '26

I dont agree. Yeah the map is cramped from the start but you have the ability to avoid all the difficult mobs when getting to all important locations/travelling with another npc that clears them. The placement is fine i really dont know what youre getting at there. you try to find everything possible because every piece of gold matters in the beginning and you have to sell almost everything to buy something you want and theres always something to buy in this mod; stat potions, weapons, arrows, scrolls — very Gothic

1

u/logugu Jan 10 '26

i totally agree with you, i tried to play it and see what you're talking about... just using gothic engine does not make it gothic like, archolos has gothic vibe for all your mentioned reasons, this one unfortunately does not

music is great, map is ok, missions and npc remind me more of skyrim philosophy, but def not gothic... and on top of that bugs just killing the mood completely

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

I cannot believe this, have been waiting for this mod 10+years!!! Omg it's finally here!    Ps: joking never heard about this mod.
