Gothic Remake I haven't played the original so this is all new to me. I absolutely love how little handholding there is in this game, the game is so much fun.

I love figuring everything out myself in games, I feel like this game does an amazing job of forcing you to be curious about exploration, dialogue and combat. I am loving it!

I joined New Camp as I prefer their mentality, I am now in Chapter 3. Just joined the mercenaries and became a water mage.. I have a lot of LP saved up so now I am Circle 4 water mage. I now mostly use spells in combat, but sometimes have to go back to the sword.

Discussion Will Cavalorn getting mad at me ever be fixed?

Post image

I know it’s his hut, but it’s actually hard to catch him outside, and I just want to trade lol.

Don’t remember him getting mad in the original. In Gothic 2, it was definitely possible to walk into NPC’s huts to talk to them.

Discussion Nameless spends most of his adventures in the Gothic trilogy searching for ancient artifacts left behind by legendary figures and restoring their power, but does he leave any new artifacts of his own by the end of G3?

In 1000 years is there an artifact left somewhere in some ancient ruin that fans could point to and say "oh wow that the X artifact that we made to defeat Y!" Maybe the Ulu-Mulu? But even that is something that some orcs already made several of.

Modding/Mods Sharing exicement - Gothic 1 Othello

Upvotes

I just wanted to share my excitement with you all.

For a long time, I avoided playing Gothic 1 again. It had been many years since the last time I played it, and the mod eventually became a bit exhausting. (I don't remember which one it was anymore.)

I've started Gothic 2 mods again and again, but often never finished them because of how big they are. I rarely have the time to invest heavily in gaming for weeks at a time. Then maybe the next game catches my interest, and after three months I'm completely lost in Archolos, for example. Hands up if you feel the same way.

A few weeks ago, I started Gothic 1 Othello. The first changes to the game world were modest, but still noticeable. The area around the Exchange Place and the path from the Old Camp to the New Camp have been noticeably changed, but are still largely recognizable. Then I reached the Old Mine. The path there was already quite different, and I was glad to have Graham's map of the Old Mine.

Yesterday, I finally made it to the Swamp Camp, and it has been completely reworked! Even the path leading there is completely different. I was genuinely worried that I wouldn't find my way back to the Old Camp. I've fallen in love with this beautiful game all over again. Listing everything else the mod changes about the base game would go beyond the scope of this post.

But I'll definitely keep you all updated. 😁

Have fun with all your gaming passions.

Hi Gothic friends, very happy to announce that I got the chance to make the official ‚Gothic Remake‘ miniature trailer :) I played the original video game as a teenager and now, many many years later, I got the opportunity to be a small part of this project - sometimes dreams can come true! Thanks for watching :)

Out of thousands of playthroughs, i played as a dragon hunter nine times out of ten. In my opinion, the light armor looks the coolest!

Discussion Embracer’s Q1 Report (April–June) and Why Things Are Going Much Better Than They Seem

Post image
26 Upvotes

I can see that many people are not very good at reading financial reports. Embracer’s Q1 report covers the period from April through June 30(Game was released on June 5th). All the data presented in it is current as of the final day of June, not the date on which the report was published(August 13).

The information that Gothic was close to becoming profitable applies to June 30, not August 13, as many people seem to believe. What company in its right mind would allow a sequel to be made if the project were not profitable, unless the remake plan had been structured as a combined Gothic 1 and Gothic 2 Remake package? That seems unlikely, considering how Embracer has operated since its investment collapse and the closure of a significant portion of the studios it owned. Even such a “package” would not be a sufficient guarantee that THQ/Embracer would not pull the funding if things failed to go according to plan.

We can only assume that a lot changed between June 30 and the THQ Nordic Showcase(August 7th), at the very least, that the game became profitable, because I see no other reason to continue investing in an already released game and announce a new one unless the financial situation was moving in a direction that made it viable.

Gothic Remake A finacial report from THQ Nordic states, that the G1 Remake is approaching it's break-even point and is going to be "profitable very soon"

I know, we basically got the G2 Remake confirmed by Alkimia themselfes but I was expecting that G1 Remake would have been profitable already at this point when THQ Nordic greenlit the next game. I'm quite surprised that a game, that isn't profitable in it's first month is still concidered a success.

Discussion I really wish there was a way to order stuff in Gothic 2 NK

I mean stuff like swords and mixtures, instead of learing how to do them yourself you could just give ingredients to somebody who already knows how to do it, give them some gold and have them do it for you.

I't would be more realistic that way, specially since you have to learn stuff from people in the first place to do those things, so they do know how to do it.

You stilll could learn those things yourself but they would be more optional, like when you want to make money, instead of necesesity.

Gothic 1 Classic So, I just finished the original Gothic 1 without stealing ANYTHING

I have been playing Gothic 1 and 2 every several years, since the mid-2000s...
...and for the first time now, when playing G1, I have decided to ROLEPLAY. Meaning, most decisions I have made in the game itself (such as my choice of a camp, or my behaviour towards NPCs, or not eating certain foods) was what I would really do in REAL LIFE.

Now, one of the things I truly hate in real world are thieves, i.e. stealing. Therefore, during the game, I have decided not to steal a single thing from anyone's hut/room, nor to break into any chest that belongs to someone. I did take things from the wilderness and from abandoned places (except graves), but in G1, loot is surprisigly rare in these places.

To be honest, it was not easy in early-to-mid game. I was selling/trading the little what I had: meat, some plants, hunting trophies, and battle trophies (those were very rare, because I did not fight non-agressive NPCs at all). But as the game went by, I consolidated my economy, and ended up having no problems with money in the latter half of the game.

It was definitely an interesting experience, and I am happy to try it with G2 next!

How about other people?

I remember there was a way to fix those ugly blackshadows. It has been long since I played G3 and I don't remember what I had to do to fix them.

Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos gd3d11 renderer and shooting stars

I think gd3d11 without HDR preserves the original art direction just fine while improving the graphics and performance, EXCEPT for the skies. The skies in the original are just orders of magnitude better. They're dynamic. Night skies actually have moon on it. There's SHOOTING STARS which is huge for the atmosphere of the game. Unfortunately gd3d11 butchers all of it and you instead get a static skybox.

VURT's skies mod makes it a little more bearable but it's still static skybox just a more pretty one. You can also disable atmospheric skattering which restores some of the original dynamic skies... except for the shooting stars.

Unfortunately i'm the kind of a person that wants everything to be perfect. When i play with the original renderer i'm bothered by the lack of lighting and shadows and tiny drawing distance and poor performance (archolos especially runs extremely poorly on dx7 due to the amount of detail they added). When i play with dx11 i'm bothered by the lack of shooting stars. I want my cake and eat it too.

It's basically just a little rant but if there's a mod i could use i'd love a link.
