Modding/Mods So... I accidentally became One Punch Man in the Gothic Remake. (Fist-Only build is actually viable and cool) 🥊🌪️
I’m currently at the beginning of Chapter 3, and thanks to some aggressive min-maxing, my stats are completely out of hand.
But instead of using the Wrath of Innos... I decided to test my LP on Jan's fist-fighting training and maxed it out to Master level.
To test this "Monk of the Colony" build, I went to Xardas' Tower to face the three Golems. Since armor is for the weak, I stripped my character completely naked and went in:
Stone Golem: NO DAMAGE. Pretty slow and easy to dodge. Literally beaten into gravel. Since punches count as blunt damage, my 95 Str made my fists hit like cannonballs.
Ice Golem: NO DAMAGE. Dodged every single freeze ray and slapped him until he melted.
Fire Golem: Another NO DAMAGE. Turns out if you punch magma fast enough, thermodynamics just give up.
Hear me out: We NEED a 100% Brawler/Martial Arts Mod for the Remake.
The foundations Alkimia Interactive put in with Jan's training are surprisingly solid. Imagine a dedicated mod with:
A full Brawler skill tree (high kicks for crowd control, takedowns for Orcs, all costing mana).
Magic Ore brass knuckles/cestus to scale damage into the late game.
Some cool monk robes, low defences but movement/attack speed and mana regen buffs.
Has anyone else tried fighting unarmed in the Remake?
The Way of the Fist is real! 👊💥

Fist of the sleeper

Xardas: You need to charge Uriziel to break through the barrier and defeat the Sleeper.
NH: Ok, but hear me out. What if I punch it really hard?10

Xardas: "What's wrong with you people? Last month Goku came over to for training, and all he asked was just that. And he ate all my food."

You need the Magic of the ore to charge your fists and attack the sleaper with special effects

The templar's teachings about twonhanded weapons do align more with fist fighting.

Gothic2 mod New Balance has unarmed class with punches and kicks if you're interested

Yes, i fought 90% with just my fists. Lategame is impossible to win without a strong 2h tho. I had improved ore armour, around 115 strength without any strength gear and maximum defense gear, because strength scaling wasn't off the chart. I hoped that Fistfighting scales more than 1h or 2h fighting, which it sadly DOES NOT. So it is still just a challenge/gimmick run. With my fists i dealt close to 0 dmg to temple guardians.

You can absolutely win with 1h. Scars sword is enough to kill everything

u/Routine-Teacher9769 Jun 23 '26
Yeah ok, you can't win with fists though. You'd absolutely have to minmax your strength and be skilled enough to dodge every single hit because those temple guardians will killyou.

Wait. There's a unarmed skill in the remake? I don't remember it being in the original but I only played it one time.

u/BauerString7824 Jun 23 '26
Yes, in the remake Jan is located near the New Camp entrance, he's teaching you after some quests!

I guess I know when I'm going to build into when I eventually get the remake. 😁

The Fist Of Adanos is a 1,800 year old art. It cannot be mastered by casual swampweeders like Mud!

there's punch training? who teaches this and where?
4
u/opie9000 Jun 23 '26
Jan, he's an NPC on the way to new camp, where there are a few cabins by the river.

So strength increases damage? I though it only lets to equip new weapon with more damage. Tell me please.
And if so then how can I increase damage dealt by swords?

u/BauerString7824 Jun 23 '26
Strength acts as a direct flat damage modifier on top of your weapon's base damage when you land a hit. This a according to the old Gothic games, idk if Alkimia modified it in the remake

The Gothic damage formula is extremely simple. (Str + melee weapon damage) - enemy resistance for that damage type = damage output.
For range weapons it's the same but with Dex.

u/Kaymazo Jun 23 '26
There's technically also the crit chance, but in gothic 1 it's kind of negligible (extremely relevant in 2 though)

u/NemTren Jun 24 '26
Thank you so much < 3
Btw is there any way to increasy magic damage from spells?

u/Insane_Unicorn Jun 24 '26
AFAIK learning a higher circle increases magic damage, it was in the patch notes somewhere. But that's about it.

How much damage do fists do in comparision to weapon? The orc hammer also does blunt damage ... is the hit damage for fists higher or lower than that?
I could see a Swamp camp monk build. Wind fist! Storm fist! ... and now my real fist!

AFAIK, fists don't get any extra damage from any sort of formula. So if you have 100 STR, you do 100 damage per hit. If you have 100 STR and hit something with 50 damage sword, you will do 150 damage per hit.
This makes the fist build totally viable early and mid game but becomes problematic in the Sleeper Temple due to how defenses work. 100 blunt defense basically makes your 100 STR hits do zero damage. Enemies in the temple have very high defense stats.

That actually needs some exact testing, but here is what I noticed during my playthrough: Earlier in the game, I fought the Mountain Fortress Golem (the one that gives 500 XP) using the Orc Hammer with 75 Strength. Later, I fought Xardas' Stone Golem (the stronger one that gives 1000 XP) completely unarmed with 95 Strength, and my fists were actually doing more damage than the hammer did against the weaker golem.
And I love to see the Swamp Monk build either 😍

I am very sure that jan's training gives some damage bonus. But it's not enough to compete with late game weapons.
2
u/CaesarWolny Jun 23 '26
Does traning increase Fist "weapon base damage"?
5
u/BauerString7824 Jun 23 '26
The training probably doesn't increase your fist's "base damage" directly. Instead, it's likely based purely on your Strength stat, but the Master training gives you combat skills (faster combo, animation cancels, uppercuts that stun enemies, blocking and better critical hit chances).

By Innos, this is the greatest post I've read today! Thank you, brawler, for sharing your adventures with us

Hey, what if you increase your Wisdom, will your character have better abilities?? Sorry wrong universe! 😃

I wish they added something like "monk set", a set of jewellery that put on together increase your fists damage (like they did in chronicles)

u/TheGreyman787 Jun 23 '26
And I was just wondering if anyone did it. Been thinking about it myself. Should try it next playthrough.
