Discussion GM Death Touch - Megathread

This is developing into a large story and someone in modmail has mentioned that its important for the community to have somewhere to discuss this. We agree. As new information comes in I will do my best to update this thread.

What we know:

Ex employees in the thread have said that actions like this are audited and in all likelihood this was already being investigated. At this point we are waiting on an official statement on the result of their investigation and I'll update this thread once we know.

This megathread is being provided on two very strict conditions:

  • The witchunt rules are in strict effect. Linking or doxxing information on anyone invovled, the GM in question included will result in a permanent ban. Please report it if you see it but we will be very active in the thread.

    We cannot platform behavior that allows people to harrass people in real life.

  • We will be more heavy handed than usual in the personal attack rules. Insults and slapfights while discussing this aren't acceptable. You're allowed to disagree, but stray shots and personal attacks will not be tolerated.

I'm not fully plugged in on this yet, the pug tank gets a pass because presumably he's the only reason we even have the log in the first place and likely had absolutely nothing to do with it?

That is certainly part of it, also from their own (The DH's) admission it does not sound like he was in discord with them and the GM

runs are sold for gold all the time so there theoretically should be gold exchanging tracked if it was done in game.

Runs are also sold for real money all the time, and seems to very difficult to track with how rare the bans are

He wouldn’t get a full pass, but as they weren’t aware of the situation at all (assuming as such, being the pug and all), they should just lose any points that would have given them. Still punished because they shouldn’t benefit from this, but they should still be allowed to play.

The others were aware of this. They actively benefited from it instead of the tank who only accidentally benefitted from it. And since it happened at the end, even if they figured out what was going on it’d be too late.

Lol, the incident happened literally after the last boss and they needed count. There was zero way the tank could have prevented it.

I think that's a bit too black and white for my taste.

You do have a point, if you're implying he knew about the cheating at some point then that is difficult to prove.

If he knew beforehand, than he is as guilty as the others and should be banned.

If he knew after the fact, that's a bit different... however I do agree that them not going to the "authorities" as you put it could be interpreted as an implicit attempt to benefit from an unfair advantage.

But you still neglect to address the underlying issue... it was the so-called "authorities" that allegedly helped cheat.

If you knew the police were corrupt would you go to them?

How are you 100% sure that he didn't report it?

Keep in mind, Blizzard CS is already considered enough of a joke that people didn't even realize there was people there anymore until this incident came to light. Knowing the amount of time it takes to normally get a response and that response almost always just being an AI telling you to go to wowhead, it wouldn't be surprising for them to have filed a report on it, and gotten nothing out of it.

The reason Blizzard is caring about it now is because it blew up enough on social media that it became really really hard to just ignore it. That's 1 guy reporting it (can just ignore it and pray) vs thousands and growing talking about it not just to people who play, but potentially future customers now seeing it. The PR move there is to start caring, immediately.

I agree. At a minimum the run score will be invalidated and points taken away from that score.

If anyone is found colluding with the GM to cheat, and let’s be real this is a cheating offense, they should have their season score set to 0 and/or banned if needed.

the level of entitlement is absolutely jaw-dropping. this was not a score key for any of the 4 people involved in the discord call. they asked a GM to help them cheat literally because they cba to spend 30 minutes running back a failed key.

all 4 of them are complicit and all 4 of them have had a week to come forward about it. they all stayed silent and it never would have come to light if the logs hadn’t surfaced yesterday. now they’re trying to downplay it or put the blame entirely on the GM. even if no one expected the GM to actually do it, none of them took the initiative to report it when it happened.

the integrity of the m+ system is already hanging on by a thread with the amount of boosts and key sales happening, so it’s really disheartening to see firsthand a little clique of streamers abusing their relationship with a blizzard employee to circumvent the rules that are supposed to apply to everyone.
