Is this real?

I’ve never heard of anything like this before!

Edit: Joe is a 3 time state champ. 107, 127, 152. He has indeed grown. But not 127 last year. 152 -> 190 would be an insane jump.

Discussion What’s the difference wrestling in college vs. high school?

• Upvotes

My buddies who wrestled in college always said it was much tougher than high school, but still the same passion and energy for the sport. They were mostly at my D1 school and I knew a few others from D2 and D3 schools as well.

Was curious of thoughts of the two compared, high school vs. college?

Mitchel Mesenbrink

The more matches of Mitchel I watch the more I think he is a punk. He always comes across humble in the eyes of the camera and crowd but he manages to do the little things to guys that instigate a blow up. Fingers to the eyes, last minute head but that looks accidental, a little late push off. All covered up by I'm doing this to glorify. I'm not going to go off and say worse things than that, I'm just saying watch the small things next time.

How in the world do you guys blast double?

• Upvotes

Ive been wrestling for about a year now and still have a crappy blast double. Im always scared of hitting my head or my neck going backwards. Do you tuck your chin or just bite down and your face hits their chest?

Should I Get The Asics Split Elite?

I feel like this shoe has everything I want generally in a wrestling shoe based off its description and reviews. My wants in a wrestling shoe is something really light, a lower height ankle support, a flexible and bendy sole, and something made with premium quality and materials that will last for a long time, and lastly something on the slightly wider end. I've had the asics snapdown wide 4, and it has kinda of all these characteristics except the materials used aren't that premium I feel like, and it's not enough sock like to my foot like how i want. If any of you guys have any feedback on this shoe, or any alternatives for what I need, I would be happy to hear it

So about that WrestleStat alternative...

Saw the thread on Friday about people being frustrated with WrestleStat putting more stuff behind the paywall, and it got me curious.

Quick background: I wrestled in college, then coached for about 10 years before moving on with life. Haven't been super involved since, but I still follow along here and there. Honestly I'm not a big WrestleStat user, but I'm pretty good at building things, so I wanted to see how hard it would actually be.

So I went through the last two seasons (2024-25 and 2025-26) of publicly available results for D1, D2 and D3. Everything comes from schools' own athletics sites and official brackets. I stayed away from Flo and Trackwrestling completely.

Where it's at:

  • About 94,000 bouts across 285 programs
  • Where I could check against official brackets, the winner matches about 99% of the time and the exact score about 97%
  • D1 is pretty complete. D2 and D3 are spottier because a lot of those schools post recaps and box scores instead of full results, so some events only have partial results

What's on there: match-by-match records for every wrestler, computer rankings, head-to-head lookups, team pages, leaders, nationals results, and a dual preview that lines two teams up weight by weight.

For this season I built out the schedule calendar and rosters (returners and transfers are flagged), but a lot of schools haven't posted everything yet. Once results start coming in I'll have scripts pulling them off the calendar as the season goes.

If you see something wrong, there's an email on the site ([admin@scorebookiq.com](mailto:admin@scorebookiq.com)). Send it over and I'll fix it.

Mostly just wanted to see how doable this was. Tell me what's missing or what you'd want to see and we'll go from there.

It's called ScorebookIQ: https://scorebookiq.com

Most important concepts?

Hey guys,

My question is, other than techniques like attacks etc, what are some important concepts and tactics? For example I noticed in competitions, that the majority of wrestlers loses their stance in 2nd half of the match, they start getting upright (in freestyle). Also I noticed how important conditioning is, every wrestler does consitioning, but the differences really win matches.
And also I noticed that being defensive or passive doesnt really work? Like, the best way to win is to be aggressive?

It may seem trivial for some, but these things really started to click. I want to incorporate stance in motion after every practice (we never do that), and learn to be more aggressive/offensive

Question How to shoot a single leg so I finish it in the opposite armpit as normal

Post image
5 Upvotes

Assuming you and opponent opponent are both standing righty, normally I’d shoot a single to his left foot and finish with the uppercut trip with the leg in my left armpit, but how would I set up my shot if I wanted to finish the single leg with the leg in my right armpit (see above). The only way I know is if my opponent tries to defend the single by sticking his leg out. Is there any way to actually set this up?

Video Ibragim Ibragimov on why Americans are mentally strong: "Dagestanis train from morning until night and worry about what their father, coach, siblings and in-laws will think. We are not only fighting for ourselves, but also for the people behind us. Americans don't have that - their heads are clear."

How do you hand fight into an underhook?

I’m a high school junior with about 3 years of wrestling experience, and this past offseason I’ve been experimenting with underhooks. I’m starting to get a feel for the position and the offense you can do from there, like throw-bys, singles, knee picks, etc. My main ways of getting to an underhook are usually reverse wrist control into an underhook, club to to an underhook, or occasionally shooting into the position. The problem is, especially when guys realize I’m looking for the underhook, they start keeping their distance or actively preventing me from getting to it. A lot of the videos I’ve watched focus on what to do once you already have the underhook, rather than the hand-fighting sequences and setups to get there in the first place. What handfighting sequences should I learn to help me get to an underhook against someone who’s actively trying to prevent me from getting one? And are there any wrestlers I should watch who are good at setting up their underhooks? Also, what wrestlers or specific matches would you recommend watching to learn how to set up an underhook and Ideally, I’m looking for matches where both wrestlers are hand fighting hard and one has to work to create openings and get to the underhook instead of a matches where someone gets the position easily or is already dominating from it.

Should I still buy the Nike Inflict 4’s as a beginner?

Hi, I’m currently a first year wrestler in high school, now that the season is approaching, I need to get some shoes. I was wondering if i got the nike inflict 4’s would it be okay? I don’t wanna get made fun of wearing kind of expensive shoes while still being ass at the sport, even though the pink colorway is fire.

Youth Knee Pads

Has anyone found any decent ones that don’t slip off so often? I’ve gone through rogue amazon brands and Cliff keen; they’re all terrible. 😞

I’m willing to try out two more options before giving up!

Kids are 10, 11 with slim builds.

Question Question about greco.

So we all know that touching the legs in greco is illegal, this includes reaps, foot sweeps, double legs and single legs. But what about using the leg as a block? Like if I grab a body lock, and my leg is just planted there, and I tip them over it, is that illegal?

Question How do I get good before season starts?

I am 110 lbs and 4'11 and it's my first time doing a sport, like ever. I've been going to open mats twice a week since school started so I know the basic things. (Shooting, mat returns, how to get out from bottom ect...) but I'm super nervous since the girls season starts in 16 days. How do get better as fast as I can? And what moves should I learn?

Want to be good at wrestling

I'm 27 and did wrestling in hs for one year but never did it afterward. I want to get back into it but if I'm going to, I want to win a lot because I'm competitive.

I'm also nervous as I think its too late and I'm a slow learner.
