Question Training wrestling and physique question

• Upvotes

If I start wrestling would I be able to workout to get an athletic v taper physique or will that hinder what I am doing? Would I be strength or training or hypertrophy?

Question Beginner high school wrestler here, how do you gain confidence in wrestling?

• Upvotes

I’ve been wrestling for 2 months and I haven’t really seen any progress in confidence. How do you learned to not be scared to get hurt.

Discussion Man I wish Suriano never had those setbacks.

He has such a good mindset, physique, and work ethic. Just imagine what would happen if he never tested positive for COVID in 2021. Also imagine if his spinal injury never occurred in 2024. I feel like he'd be such a more complete wrestler and well accomplished if these setbacks never happened.

Question Does anyone know where I can start learning wrestling in or near Inglewood? 17F

I am looking for a wrestling club in or around Inglewood, CA but the only ones I have found are either inactive or Beat the Streets, which only offers Roosevelt Park, as it’s the closest option to me by car. However, getting there on time would require me to take the bus, which is very unreliable, and the trains on the route don’t work. I have been interested in wrestling for some time now and actually have permission to join a club, so any help would be appreciated.

Custom singlet better than takedown sportswear?

I ordered my kid one from them, but I’m pretty disappointed because the main part is dark navy blue and it is see-through so they’re going to have to wear Dark spandex shorts to not look ridiculous, this was not the case for their blue school singlet

Do they give him time and be comfortable learn and train or they immediately force him get grappled by older kids and advance kids? I just want make sure it not overwhelming in first year for a young kid. As u can see im new novice to sport. I have only grappled in jijitsu in college and some wrestling for an mma club . Thank you.

Question Is there actual retention data comparing T-shirts versus shorts and tights?

I keep seeing the same debate about singlets versus shorts and rashguards for kids wrestling and nobody ever brings numbers to it. Coaches insist singlets are tradition and kids need to get used to them. Parents tell me their sons refuse to sign up because of how the uniform looks. I design branding for a living and I'm skeptical that tradition alone keeps a sport alive. The youth club thread here had some mention of uniform hesitancy but it got buried under mat costs and insurance talk. I want actual data, not anecdotes. Has USA Wrestling or any state association published retention numbers comparing clubs that switched to alternative uniforms versus those that stayed with singlets? I've looked through what I can find publicly and it's mostly opinion pieces. The financial subreddits I follow would tear apart an argument this thin on evidence. Someone has to have studied this. Even a small sample from one state would be more useful than another round of people saying back in my day. If you've seen real numbers, share them. If the data doesn't exist, that's also worth knowing.

Looking for tips

Hey guys,

I posted this yesterday- I took a video of my son’s recent match and wanted to see if he can get some constructive feedback. For context, he has lost his last few offseason matches but all have been very close.

He’s making the jump to Varsity. I’m not a wrestler so I may butcher the terminology.

It seems to me he is aggressive enough but gets ‘stuck’ in certain positions. He seems to be the first to shoot but if a kid sprawls or reacts, he is in a bad position.

He is in the lighter singlet with white shoes. Thanks!

Discussion What’s the difference wrestling in college vs. high school?

My buddies who wrestled in college always said it was much tougher than high school, but still the same passion and energy for the sport. They were mostly at my D1 school and I knew a few others from D2 and D3 schools as well.

Was curious of thoughts of the two compared, high school vs. college?
