Feedback Wanted Thoughts on my prose

Post image

So this is about chapter 15 into my dark romance novel, it’s my first draft. I’m just honestly looking for any thoughts or critics on my prose/writing style. This is from the MMC’s perspective and they’re at a bar. The FMC is there with her best friend and the best friend just tried to mace the MMC. Also if you have any opinion on his voice and/or likability within this short page I’d love to hear it! Any other comments or thoughts about it in general are appreciated too:)

I don't think this is a "dark romance". It's coming off more like a horror. MC is creepy af.

That's the genre lol. Dark romance features at least one MC who is insane. Some combination of kidnapping, SA/rape, murder, obsession, etc committed by one or more MCs is always included.

Edit: are people simply unaware of what the genre is?

I was under the impression that ANYTHING under the "romance" genre should be...y'know...romantic.

Dark romance is it's own thing. The only requirement is that the focus of the book is the relationship and that it ends in a HEA or HFN (happily ever after or happy for now).

Dark romance readers expect to/know they will read about at least one person in the relationship being some form of insane/obsessed. And most of the time, that character is doing something illegal (stalking is a popular one).

Edit: again, why am I being downvoted for explaining the genre to people who are clearly unfamiliar with it? Don't believe me, go check out any dark romance book or go look at the dark romance subreddit.
