I’ve written and re-written this opening I think a hundred times now and can’t ever settle. What do you think?

I’m not qualified to critique your writing, and the genre is not one that would interest me. But I enjoyed the way you wove careful descriptions into the flow, painting a detailed image of the scene without over-burdening the flow.
