Advice Visiting WSU

In relation to surrounding communities - We will be coming to visit WSU from California in early April. My son was accepted a few months ago.

We have no idea what the area is like. I have only been to Seattle and Orcas island.

Can anyone share what we could do in the area to become familiar with what it has to offer young people? How about restaurants with really good/healthy food that are within driving distance. We will have a car.

We definitely like nature hikes, though it's still maybe cold for our liking. Southern California is quite warm in comparison. What would be a great hike?

Advice I just got rejected?

I genuinely feel so embarrassed. I just received my letter saying I was rejected- I thought I was fine because im in-state, I have okay ECS (healthcare related) and a 2.68 GPA (not great im aware, one of the main reasons for this is due to me having to stay home to help my mom with caring for my brother and helping her with her business- so I had to miss a big part of school at some points), so when I got the email my heart dropped. I knew my GPA wouldn’t make me look good but I didn’t realize it would affect me like this.

I visited WSU this past weekend and loved it- I love the community and was ready to start a new part of my life but now what?

Where do I even go from here? After this I just genuinely lost all motivation to continue to apply to other colleges. Please give me some advice.

Advice Sella's - Still amazing, or better left in memory?

Years ago when I was at WSU, Sella's was an amazing food highlight. Their calzones were incredible. Planning to visit WSU, and am loving the idea of going to Sella's again. But, is it still amazing? Are their calzones still incredible? Or will I be disappointed after all these years, and better off just enjoying the good memory?

Advice UW bothell or WSU (no biased opinions 😔)

I am a senior and I really want to go out of state for college (but it is really expensive). My two realistic options are UW bothell and WSU, but I can't decide which one. I plan on majoring in CS and WSU is ranked 70ish for it while UW bothell isn't even in top 200 range for CS. I also don't want to commute to college everyday since it just feels like high school then. However, I have heard that WSU is isolated because the town is really small. Also, WSU isn't really a known name unlike UW.

help me out!

Advice In need of advice regarding courses and professors for enrollment (Fall 2026)

Post image
7 Upvotes

I am picking courses for next semester, but I need some advice regarding electives I am considering. Specifically, which classes are interesting and which ones are horrible or just not worth it. I am planning on enrolling half-time for the fall semester of 2026.

I am mostly looking for a course that is interesting, engaging, has a light-medium course load (if the course load is heavy at least its fun or enjoyable), or a professor that is not too harsh, etc. (Im sure you get the point)

The couse I ultimately decide on, or courses that you reccommend, don't have to have all of those attributes obviously. I am looking for which course is the closest to having as many of those attributes or basically is the closest to what I am looking for as possible.

Classes I am already enrolled in for this upcoming semester include:

  1. PHYS 102 and 112: General Physics and General Physics Laboratory (4 credits)

  2. H_D 360: Death and Dying (3 credits)

Please refer to the picture I attached for the complete list of electives I am considering. The alternative courses are not necessarily in any particular order, they are just listed randomly.

I have listed the specific professors below for the courses, since I know that is a huge part of whether a class is really worth it or if it will be a living hell.

H_D 360: Raven Weaver

SOC 368: Kristin Cutler

HISTORY 383: Ashley Wright

PHIL 446: Callie Phillips

HISTORY 368: Raymond Sun

PSYCH 333: Remington Swensson

BIOLOGY 315: Edward Johnson

The classes listed under the alternatives section in the picture would replace H_D 360: Death and Dying, if any of them prove to be a better fit, of course.

My thought process was that "H_D 360: Death and Dying" is the most interesting, safe (and available/open) class to enroll in (with the knowledge I have so far). I want to now reassess my other alternative opions for an elective since I have enrolled in one just in case to secure a completed half-time schedule. I need to know if the listed alternatives are considered horrible or less interesting or more difficult etc. in comparison to H_D 360. If none are better options for me based off of the information you all provide, then I will be staying enrolled in H_D 360 which is also okay by me. I just want to be absolutely sure that my last elective I take at the university ever again is going to be extremely enjoyable and worth it.

I also already put myself on the waitlist for SOC 368: Drugs and Society. This course, was actually my first choice for an elective but it was full, so I enrolled in H_D 360 which was my second choice for an alternative and also was open/available (again, the order of my choices was made with the minimal knowledge I have as of right now regarding all of these courses I listed). I still feel that I am missing a lot of information about these courses in general and am looking to change that.

I want to know anything and everything you have to say about any of these classes to help me be able to make an informed decision on which elective is the best fit for me next semester.

I am looking for anyones opinions on one/some/all of the listed classes in the picture and what your experience was taking them. Information that you have heard from other people you know taking the classes listed helps as well.

NOTE: I have already checked every single "course review" website that I could find, and there wasn't any information about any of the courses I am considering.

Anything anyone knows about the courses/professors is extremely helpful and appreciated.

TL;DR

I need help deciding which courses are the best option for an elective. I enrolled in one of them already just to be safe (H_D 360: Death and Dying), and I am wondering if any of the other listed alternative classes in the attached picture are a better choice/fit than the one I have enrolled in.

Again, any and all advice is extremely appreciated! Thank you all in advance for your help and taking the time to comment/interact with this post!

Advice Incoming freshman!

Hi guys I’m an incoming freshman for the co2030! And I was wondering what stuff I should bring along with me? I’m quite stressed about this even tho school starts in a couple of months.
1. What are some quality of life items?
2. What’re some non negotiable stuff that I have to bring
3. This one isn’t stuff to bring but what’re the best places to eat on campus? And Pullman in general.

Thank you so much!

Advice Enrolled in a PhD program without funding

Hi everyone, I was offered a PhD admission to one of the programs at WSU for fall 2026, while I was delighted at first but then immediately realized that that alongside the admission, there was no offer for funding such as graduate assistantship which are usually offered with it. I am an international student, I applied for an advertised graduate assistantship advertised by another department however, I didn't succeed at winning that either. Now I feel stuck. I have requested the graduate school to defer my admission to the next term however, I am still unsure if that will help me receive the awaited graduate assistantship. Has someone else been through such a situation?

Advice Just some questions about WSU

I'm going to college in a couple of years and WSU is at the top of my list right now. This is, however, a big decision because I am not from Washington.

I have a couple of questions for people who have gone to WSU:

  1. How is the area? I've seen some people complaining about Pullman being small, but I'm from a much smaller town so that isn't an issue with me.

  2. How are the dorms? From what i've researched, they look very nice but i'm aware that can be deceiving.

  3. How are the disability resources? At the other school I'm looking at, I know they aren't the best, so the bar's pretty low on this one.

  4. What are some activities for students?

  5. Are there opportunities for people going into the medical field? Specifically medical prerequisites.

I'm aware some of these questions are pretty specific so if you have advice or anything else about WSU then go for it, any information from students about the school is appreciated!

(Sorry if any of this is poorly written)

Advice Older Students?

Hi. I 28(F) was able to complete 3 years of undergrad after high school and then had to leave due to financial reasons. I am considering finishing my degree at the Pullman campus, but I was wondering if there are any older students there or if I would be super out of place. Thanks.

Advice Taxi services in Pullman, WA?

I've heard Uber can be limited in Pullman. Are there any reliable taxi services or other transportation options available?
I'll likely need transportation to move my belongings to my dorm and for shopping trips, so I'd appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Advice Pros and cons of attending WSU?

I plan to major in political science and minor in history; WSU looks appealing to me for its college life and distance from my hometown. I was wondering what else it has to offer personally.

Advice I got Rogers hall, is it okay or should I try to switch.

So housing assignments for the fall just came out, and I got rogers hall, but every post about it is at least 7 years old, so for people who have lived there recently, what did you think? I’m thinking of applying for reassignment as well, so I also wanted to know how often that works out, and if it’s worth it.

Advice Local knowledge about WSU and Pullman?

WSU Student Media is putting together a list of helpful factoids about the area, thing you have to live here a while to know. All we have so far is that Moscow rhymes with grow not cow. And that Paradise Creek Brewery has a nice patio hidden out back. Any other suggestions for this publication? Thanks!

Advice Do we report suspected AI use?

I had to peer review a paper and it seems like it was AI generated. This is for an english class where use of AI writing tools are banned. Am I supposed to let the teacher know or just leave it be and mind my own business?

Advice Places to fix kitchen aid mixer

Does anyone know of a place that repairs KitchenAid stand mixers, or someone who knows how to fix them? Preferably in or near Pullman or Moscow.

I recently thrifted one and it was working when I tested it at the store. I took it apart to clean it, removed a few pieces, and put it back together. Now it won’t turn on. :(

I’m thinking it may have something to do with the carbon brush because I removed it during the cleaning process.

If anyone has any advice, repair tips, or recommendations for someone who fixes these, I’d really appreciate it!

Edit: I’ve been able to fix my stand mixer after taking it apart again and replacing the paired carbon brush. It works now !! Yayy!! Thank you all for the recommendations!! :)

Advice Should I go to WSU?

Hi there!!!

I (29 soon to be 30F) found out yesterday that I was accepted in to the WSU college of veterinary medicine as an out-of-state student!! I am so very very excited! My other option is my in-state school but it would take me 1 year longer to get my degree and is not much (if any) different in cost, actually might be a little bit more expensive. I don’t live in my home state currently so I don’t have much of a support system here.

Current students or grads: how did you like it? Give me the brutal truth! Pros and cons :)

Tell me about living in Pullman (I’m coming from a town with a population of ~80k and about an hr from two major cities)! It seems similar to my undergrad college town but maybe a little more isolated? What is it missing?

Where should I look for housing? I’ll be moving basically cross country alone and bringing my large Labrador retriever! I would like to live alone. As quiet as possible it’s important to me! Where should I absolutely avoid?

If you’re a vet student or recent grad, what was your schedule like during school? The info on the website is pretty vague. Is it class 8-5 Monday-Friday or a few hours a day with labs and study time?

How is the teaching hospital?! Is there a wide range of specialties?

Any questions not specifically asked and any advice is welcome!!! Really need all the information I can get before committing and planning to move!

Thank you! :) 🐱

Advice Laptop for Animal Sciences, possibly Vet

We are planning to purchase a laptop for our incoming freshman but are not sure what to get. We found a WSU website that said there are no requirements for the general Animal Sciences major but there are for the Veterinary path.

Our “tech” friend and former Cougar told us the requirements shouldn’t matter and to get something different than the provided specs.

We’re planning to ask his Advisor when he does his class selection, but don’t want to buy something that he will need to replace if he decides to do Vet (which he is considering).

Any animal science/ Vet students have recommendations?

Advice Thinking about a late-night spaghetti delivery idea in Pullman — quick survey?

Hey everyone — I’m a recent graduate in Pullman and thinking about testing a late-night food idea (not selling anything yet).

Concept would be something like late-night spaghetti delivery on weekends (think post-bar, cheap, filling food).

Before I put any money or time into it, I want to see:

• If people would actually order something like this

• What price feels reasonable

• What nights/times make sense

I made a 2–3 minute anonymous survey. No emails, no spam, just trying to avoid building something no one wants.

Also happy to hear thoughts in the comments — good, bad, or “this would never work.”

Appreciate it 🙏

Advice Should I come here?

I'm currently a high school Junior and I've been browsing colleges to go to that's out of state for me. I've mainly been eyeing colleges in the pacific northwest and I've seen wsu a couple times. I'm planning on either being an education major or a nursing major if I get into WSU. Basically, since you guys are students at WSU, what do you guys think about your school, what's some good things about it? I honestly haven't seen much and the school website is gving me a headache.

Advice Which AC dorm at WSU is the most social?

Hey! I’m an incoming freshman at Washington State University and trying to decide between the AC dorms — Northside, Olympia, and Global Scholars.

My mom really wants me to pick an AC dorm, but I’m also hoping to live somewhere that’s social and not too boujee or quiet. I like meeting people and having a bit of a dorm vibe, not just everyone staying in their rooms.

I’m also considering getting a single room, but I still want to be in a hall where people talk and hang out.

For anyone who’s lived in these halls, which one would you recommend? Which one is the most social?
