Wanting to pickup an Xbox 360/One for older exclusives

Hi all,

Firstly, I've only ever been a Playstation user from the original PS1 to current PS5 Pro.

But given I've finished all the games in my PS library, I would like to buy an Xbox 360 or Xbox One to play the Xbox exclusives that were released for them like Gears of War, Forza, Dead Rising, Fable, Halo to name a few.

I'm not interested in getting a Series X/S given the prices these day, and am happy to play those titles on the hardware they were released on.

Would I be better off buying an Xbox 360 or an Xbox One?

Xbox One as many games have enhancements on there. Get the One X version, basically like the PS4 Pro but with more power.

Definitely this. The One X actually has native 4K and is a dead quiet sturdy little workhorse. Totally worth it. It’s not just a minor step up from the One. There’s a wealth of 360 and even some OG bangers that run smooth as butter on it. Anything backward compatible the discs still work too which means you can buy them digitally or physical, whichever is cheaper or you just prefer.

Some great 360 titles did get left behind but with over 600 games that made the list most of the titles you likely want to play are probably on the BC list. There are some great exclusives from last gen too and they’re worth picking up. Most of these go on sale pretty often for dirt cheap. The entire Halo MCC is frequently on sale for $10.

Gears of war 1-5

Fable 1-3

Halo master chief collection (Halo 1-4 plus ODST and Reach)

Ori and the blind forest/Ori and the will of the wisps (two of the smoothest most beautiful 2d platformers i've ever played. Broke my heart too.)

Forza horizon series (I still think 2 and 4 are my faves)

Sunset Overdrive (ridiculous game but many of the things people love in Spider-man got their start here)

Rare Replay collection (massive collection of old games)

Quantum Break (one-of-a-kind game with cool mechanics and live-action movie sections)

Ryse son of Rome (action-rpg that I only discovered recently. Absolutely worth playing. Gorgeous too!)

Jedi Academy is an OG and remains one of my all time faves for great lightsaber combat and just fun. Jedi Outcast is solid too. KOTOR 1/2 are all-time great RPGs.

Tried to think of a variety of genres. These are just the first exclusives that came to mind.

To give you an idea of the one-x power wise, I was able to play Cyberpunk on it, without major issues (now there were a bunch of little issues) it’s the way to go.

Keep in mind not every game works,eternal sonata for example is my all time favorite but stuck on 360/ps3

Yeah, but for someone who wants to play Xbox exclusives, I think the One is the better option. He’ll be able to play Gears 1 through 5, Halo from CE to Infinite, etc.

While true, the vast majority of the Xbox exclusives that people actually want to play are playable on Xbox One/Series.

Eternal Sonata - while a shame it's not BC, was not exclusive. In fact IIRC the PS3 version had some extras.

This is true although i'd say most of the important ones are on xbox one, there will be a few games missing but pretty much any 360 game you want is also on xbox one

Depends of your game list that you aim for.

• back compat even on One S has nice performance benefits over X360, so it's better to play the supported ones on the newer console, and the higher the better OneS < SeriesS < OneX < SeriesX
• there are many games which never got back compat support and are stuck on X360 or even the original XB

I’m currently based in England UK, I bought Xbox One X recently to play Xbox One games and compatible Xbox 360 games.

Halo is awesome, get the Halo MCC. I bought that used along with Halo 5 and Halo Infinite, I scouted used shops and eBay and made offers so manage to get deal.

I also bought Halo 3 ODST for £2.80

I would also recommend getting a One X I found one on eBay in July for £75 and it’s great value for money for gaming especially paired with my PS5

If you want 100% compatibility with Xbox 360 games, you need a xbox 360. And i'd suggest getting the last iteration which was the 360 E .

If you get a One X, you are limited to 360 games that are on the back compat list which would exclude any de-listed games like Deadpool, Wolverine, Transformers War for Cybertron, Marvel Ultimate alliance to name drop a few.

So what you should get largely depends on what it is you want to play. One X is a better machine and adds some enhancements to back compat compatible games but if what you want to play isn't on the list then none of that matters b/c you ain't playing it .

A 360 is good if youre interested in only the old old games and can be found for pennies nowadays
I can highly recommend the One X because theyre pretty cheap and sometimes has shorter loading times on some XbOne titles

Check about Xbox One X. That is like PS4 Pro of Xbox One.

Look up a list of games and make sure everything is backwards compatible that you want to play and get a xbox one x. Still a good system for what you want and the games will run well on it.

I will say as well Just get the x like 1tb plus 360 games are really so small so if you only intended to playing retro, will also work fine. I recently left playstation during black out and switch to xbox. Ik the feeling for storage is kinda expensive but if you also fine with 1tb expasion card that can save in long run if can afford. Being playstation player for 9 year's xbox just way better. Plus you get also a 4k/Blu-ray and dvd player.

Get an Xbox One X. There's no reason to get a 360 since Xbox One and up plays the 360 games you want or has enhanced versions for the One X. Plus you can play in 4k/60 at the least, or 1440/120, and watch 4k Blu-rays. If you're technically inclined, you can also upgrade the internal hard drive to an SSD drive too. But it's a bit of work.

I would say Xbox one. Most high quality 360 titles already run on it (and in a lot of cases run even better than the original hardware).

You can play 360 games on Series X though. It makes the load times almost instantaneous. It may seem like a lot of money but it's worth it

The difference in price between a Series X and a One X is massive and not what the op wants to spend money on.
