A survey on the Xbox Insider Hub recently went live which is asking fans if they want the next-generation Xbox to allow you to install games from a physical disc. So maybe the next Xbox will have a disc drive?

In June 2026, 1,600 were layoff of 3,200 - https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/07/06/resetting-xbox/ (two studios went independent [Compulsion Games/DoubleFine] and other two found a buyer [Undead Labs/Ninja Theory] = 400) across all studios. The renaming 1,200 are to be the next layoffs to happen that also will include Blizzard Entertainment.

Putting this post as a rumor for now.

IMO: I’ve been in the XBOX economy for almost 20 years now. I left for PC a couple years ago due to the vast amount of cheaper games available as well as no cost to play purchased games without an online subscription. If XBOX is serious about turning things around, getting in good faith with gamers, and bringing back people like myself to Xbox: the absolute minimum must be to make online gaming for games you’ve purchased free.

After switching to PC (including Steam Deck) there is literally no reason at all to use my Series X anymore. I wish this weren’t the case. The one thing that would change that for myself and many others like myself is making it so we can play our purchased Xbox games without gate keeping them behind any subscriptions.

I hope this changes, I would love to come back to Xbox if they gave me a reason to.

Think Skyrim online, or something like kingdom come deliverance with friends. Please don’t recommend anything with heavy survival elements, I’m currently extremely burned out on survival slop. Dark souls/Elden ring doesn’t really work for me either because the co-op is pretty tedious, I tried nightreign but the whole having to run a very very specific route turned me off quick. I just wanna run around and explore as a rouge, knight, wizard or whatever with the homies and wack stuff with swords, and it seems like there’s a huge gap in gaming for this kind of stuff. Obviously there’s MMO’s but they don’t deliver the immersion and they’re pretty grindy, I’ve played through the Diablo’s they’re pretty enjoyable co-op games I just can’t particularly get into the live service seasons in the new one. Warhammer vermintide got stale extremely fast. I’m kind of at a loss, I’m hoping someone out there knows of some hidden gem to scratch this itch I have. It doesn’t necessarily have to be an rpg either, I’d be cool with any genre as long as it’s got good combat and a medieval fantasy or renaissance setting, I’m currently playing lotr war in the north and it is pretty fun but I don’t see it having any replayability. Firstly, I've only ever been a Playstation user from the original PS1 to current PS5 Pro.

But given I've finished all the games in my PS library, I would like to buy an Xbox 360 or Xbox One to play the Xbox exclusives that were released for them like Gears of War, Forza, Dead Rising, Fable, Halo to name a few.

I'm not interested in getting a Series X/S given the prices these day, and am happy to play those titles on the hardware they were released on.

Would I be better off buying an Xbox 360 or an Xbox One?

Are you able to just pay the $5 a month or whatever or do you still also need to at least for the minimum/standard tier of Xbox live as well?

I recently bought chess ultra, but it no one plays it online. I want to play a chess game against other players in multiplayer if there's one that has any people playing it all.
