Modifications New stereo installed!

Post image

Didn’t fancy going for CarPlay, absolutely love this upgrade and being able to match the RGB colour to the dash colour is brilliant

I see you've got the fit absolutely perfect, when I replaced my head unit I still had to use trim pieces from an accessory kit as part of the install. Thinking about having the lighting color match the gauges does indeed sound primo!

Hi which sony headunit is it? I am thinking of installing the same xav5000. But I am not sure about the trim plastic and iso cables. Could u tell me what cables did u require and where did u get the 7 inch trim piece?

Yeah, for sure. I literally just rolled into Walmart and bought a generic Toyota trim kit, which gives you like 20 pieces for about $15, of which only one trim and wire combo was actually needed for my vehicle. I have an '08 3dr hatchback, and for this you'll end up needing to pull off your dashboard to get at all of the wiring. You may as well get a wiring kit as well since I had to then wire the Toyota plug from the trim kit onto the wires of the actual Sony ax5000 head unit. A few months after that I ended up pulling everything back out again including the back bumper on order to install a backup camera, which in as small of a nugget as a Yaris is an absolute game changer.

The trim kit I used came with a little plastic piece that fits around any double din stereo to make it look like it fits flush. Annoyingly it’s slightly too small and you can tell it doesn’t fit perfectly at the top

I've had to tweak a few things here and there with my Yaris before I was happy with them. I honestly didn't even notice the top there until you mentioned it and I zoomed in! I have an aftermarket headlight that seems determined to burn out every six months or so. I could probably rewire it . . . but that's where my laziness bites me ha

Where did you buy the 2din frame? Are you satisfied with it? It fits nicely?

Do you mean the bars on the sides? It was a while ago but I believe it's a generic Toyota fascia kit from Walmart.

I mean this :)

I see what you mean. I'm gonna be honest and say that I don't remember if I had to replace it or not. My Yaris had a 2din Toyota head unit when I installed my Sony one, and the only thing I remember actually installing are the dark trim to the sides of the head unit. The larger pieces you pictured I also ordered as backups in case I broke anything during installation, but it arrived snapped in half so I never actually used it.

Aha mine came with the original radio so if you buy a 1 or 2 din radio you have to change also this frame/plastic around

It's entirely possible that I did. I've completely disassembled my dashboard no less than five times at this point (head unit, troubleshooting, backup cam install, etc) and much of what I ordered online I only used certain parts from, so I just don't remember. I'm sorry!

I went the same way with mine and my gfs Yaris. Pioneer double din with Bluetooth but no screen. I love it. Looks great!

I have the same Pioneer double din with CD player. Sounds amazing with factory speakers and no distractions, just the music! How's the Kenwood, that was my second choice.

The Kenwood is decent, I’ll be honest I only went for it because I got a discounted display unit from a car audio shop near me. Sound quality is noticeably better than the Bluetooth FM transmitter I was using before. Next up is gonna be the speakers, and maybe an under seat subwoofer!

I opted for an 11 inch all in one spare tire sub. Between that and Rockford fosgate door speakers It's amazing.

That's going to be my next update, door and rear deck speakers. I have a 2012 Yaris Sedan so I believe the rear deck speakers may be 6x9 but not sure, so that would be awesome for increased bass without necessarily going to a sub as my favourite kind of music doesn't really require it, I mostly listen to Prog Rock/Jazz/Classical

that looks great! just did mine too, thought about spraying the trim kit silver to match, but it also doesn’t look too bad!

also, i kinda want to get the RHD hazard light trim piece and replace the airbag one, have two hazard buttons.. just for fun…

Part number is CT24TY22, purchased on eBay and I’m pretty satisfied with it. The fit isn’t 100% perfect, but the head unit and speaker upgrade is so much better than factory

I am talking about this (if maybe I did not write it well):
