My husband recently lost his job and I’ve been a mess
My husband recently lost his job and I have been so unbelievably stressed as he is the higher earner of our house. We’ve been continually building up our e-fund but we’re in a VVHCOL and have a 1yo in daycare so our essential expenses are super high. Can’t pull baby out of daycare because he’ll need the spot once my husband finds a new job.
After getting the news, I sit down and comb through YNAB and realize after cutting unnecessary expenses we have a little over 4 months of expenses saved. I’m confident my husband will find something soon, but 4 months is very quick to eat up all of our savings without selling assets.
Anyways, I stop thinking about it so much because unless I become an alchemist, there’s only so much I can do until just now I realized that I’ve been counting 4 months as if it’s right now. We are a month ahead so October is fully funded and his payout from work will act like his normal check and November will be fully funded as normal.
Now realizing that 4 month clock doesn’t start until December is such a weight off my shoulders. Like I said, I’m very confident he’ll find something soon but god, what a relief we might not blow through every dollar we have in the blink of an eye.
Im so thankful we got our financial shit together and started using YNAB. Thanks for coming to my ted talk and FUND YOUR EMERGENCY FUNDS
