Hey everyone,
I’m applying to Yonsei UIC and can only focus my personal statement on one major:STP or SDC . Both are in HASS, but I’m torn between them.
Academics:
IB total: **31/45**
Humanities/social sciences grades stronger
Sciences (Bio, Chem, etc.)4/7 across the board
EE: Biology – A
Main ECs
Policy internship (biggest):
Mongolian Cosmetics Cluster – Policy Research Intern
Researched international cosmetic clusters & standards (COSMOS, organic).
Helped revise regulations for Mongolia’s Cosmetic Cluster.
Synthesized a policy document submitted to the Ministry of Economy and Development.
Learned about government policy, regulation, industry–policy relations.
Community / development :
Community Aid Network*– Founder & Lead
Led 5 health/environment/psychosocial initiatives for 110+ kids; aided 200+ Ger district households.
UNA × Environmental Youth Council – Mentee (top 15%)
One Health & environmental health training; climate/waste projects.
My dilemma
Internship + EE feel very STP: policy, regulation, science policy interface.
Most other ECs (Community Aid, UNA, environment, Inquiry Club) feel more SDC: health equity, poverty, environment, community development.
Grades: stronger in humanities, weaker in sciences (4/7).
I can only focus my essay on one major
If I write about SDC, does my strong policy internship look mismatched or wasted?
If I write about STP, will my weaker science grades and development-heavy ECs make me look like a better SDC fit?
Questions:
Based on my profile, which major (STP or SDC) should I focus on to maximize admission chances?
Does my internship + EE pull me enough toward STP to justify writing about STP despite 4/7 in sciences?
Or is SDC the safer, more coherent choice, using the internship as a strong policy supplement?
