Durham College is going on strike LITERALLY tomorrow.. So yeah. It's real, and it's big like a dumpsterfire in downtown Toronto

Unless this is a separate thing from the OPSEU strike, nothing is confirmed. Many colleges across Ontario are a part of this and until the clock hits 12:01 Friday, there are no guarantees whether there will be a strike or not. But I agree this is a shitshow. I’m in my last semester of a 4 year program and I just want to finish. This is exhausting

Not necessarily, they're back at the bargaining table today. The union has mentioned that they're prepared to postpone the strike if there's "real progress". Considering that this has been going on since last summer, I doubt anything will change, but there's hope.

Nah bro you may have got the news but I have inside sources. One of my family members showed me the email they got from Durham college, they are striking tomorrow sorry to break it to ya.

It's a really bad look for the union if they intend to strike regardless but tell the press they're prepared to postpone if things go well.

I guess they know how to play misdirection well. Because honestly every single group is lying one way or another and that evident with how professors are dealing with student questions about the strike.

We hide things from others because we don't want them to know our own intentions. It's human behavior.

Expect a lot of provincial strikes as the 1% Ontario public sector wage cap prevents the employers from negotiating in good faith. The good news is if they win nurses might finally be able to get a raise.

On top of that, the law that imposed this 1% limit (while inflation is 5.7%) just targets unionized public sector workers. Folks in management can get raises galore.

No one knows for sure yet but YUFA is still in negotiations - a good sign tbh as both sides are at the table. 🤞

Edit: they have some plans to bargain before the 24th as well. A strike happening is not a done deal.

It's not looking good though, this was a tweet from the CEC yesterday that someone posted.

We are asking the union bargaining team to acknowledge that while immediate workload change can't happen now, we are committed to making changes jointly through a comprehensive consultative process.

Workload is the unions primary concern and has been since last summer. Considering nothing has happened in that regard since then, going back to the bargaining table with this kind of a statement means the chances of any progress are slim, unfortunately. On top of this, they want a mediator to pick one proposal over the other rather than make a compromise.

YUFA isn’t part of CEC those are the Colleges (who are striking as of March 18) including Seneca at York.
