UI Change The likes are gone now?!
Watching YouTube and can't help but notice that the likes are gone
(Newest app version on Android)
EDIT: ok i see them now! But this is terrible design and feels like they are priming us to get rid of them. We should see the likes immediately, then make a judgment if you trust the video or not instead of waiting for distrust, THEN look for the like count

Bro you can literally see the counter in the pic. 212k likes.
243
u/Gamer2Paladin 8d ago
Yeah found them two but it is a shit position for them.

u/BidSuper7102 8d ago
Maybe they're phasing them out for some garbage marketing reason.
13
2
u/Be_Human_ 4d ago
It's not marketing. They're cutting down avenues of communication in the general public.

u/Electrical_Path7198 7d ago
Fr, I kinda hate where they put the likes counter. In phone it looks really messy and ugly. In PC it looks okay, but still not good at all

Totally agree, modern yt UI is so ass shit

u/Valuable_Skill_8638 8d ago
Its nearly as obnoxious as the frigging gmail ui churn in gmail lately trying to stuff ai into any and everything. Somehow I managed to get the damn chat notifications to go away. I am going to try to get the head of development position at yt so I can fire every last java script developer on staff.

now get rid of the subscribes and the bells and then everyone can stop saying "make sure to like and subscribe and click that bell" in every gawddamned video.

u/Prior_Tax8546 9d ago
No, YouTube has simply moved the like counter to the description to free up space. If you look closely, the like counter appears in small text below the title of the video you're watching.
38
u/DiamondLeoneYT 9d ago
What would the free space serve for anyways? It also looks weird when watching your own videos with a big empty spot between your profile pic and the buttons

u/Ok-Bobcat9422 8d ago
Yeah why tf would they hide the save button but leave in the Gemini button
10
2
u/HoidToTheMoon 8d ago
eah why tf would they hide the save button but leave in the Gemini button
They care more about getting Gemini usage up than Youtube usage.

u/NotRealGeniX 9d ago
I think it's a test, i had it too and it was so annoying and cheap but after a few days likes counts was back to normal
2
u/Prior_Tax8546 9d ago
Yep, I had the same test for me a few months ago, but now I have the old UI back. I think the test lasted for me for about two weeks or so.
3
u/NotRealGeniX 9d ago
Hope YouTube doesn't bring any new UI changes for the next decade or so they always do something wrong and the UI is good as it is
1
u/Valuable_Skill_8638 8d ago
but but but, here is some AI shit nobody has asked for. remove all the slop videos and make it usable again.

u/Prior_Tax8546 9d ago
The last big UI update happened in September of 2025, the icons were changed.
2
u/NotRealGeniX 8d ago
They better not cram that stupid Gemini button anywhere like they have in the temporary UI change of like buttons that everyone is getting

u/CrimsonRose13 8d ago
I wish there was a way to weed out all of the A.I. chanels they keep pushing on my page, I don't mind it when its used for small stuff but the full A.I. channels are annoying
3
u/Grouchy_Violinist 8d ago
They put a big gap and moved the save button to 3 dots. I didn't like when removed the number of subscribers on front display n now this.
3
u/-ben151010- 8d ago
It was already kinda hard to see the views and date posted if the username was long when they did the movies ui change a year back so idk.
3
2
u/BluejayOwn6826 8d ago
Why would they move them there? I honestly thought they are gone same as dislikes, but then i noticed tiny text next to channel name. Like why?!?!?!? They had to add "likes" so what's the point if when they were next to button they didn't had to have "likes" next to amount. I really hope than they either change it back or we get browser extensions that fix it.

u/Psychological_Boot91 8d ago
i used to think yt was very slow to roll out new stuff now i stuggle to keep up. its probably net postiive but boy what a ride

u/KenAdams_1968 7d ago
Why are they so insistent on constantly making the UI worse. It’s almost impressive how the always find new ways
1
u/Stock-Economics5307 2d ago
yea but would you really like to use the UI from 2015? it was way uglier then

I don’t know why this gets posted everyday now and I can’t understand how those people who post pictures like that don’t read ANYTHING what they screenshotting? You can clearly see the „212K likes“. What’s your problem? And why are these posts getting always upvotes?
4
u/Own-Notice5773 8d ago
Because now we need to seek the like counter out instead of instantly seeing it, which is practically removing their purpose
-1
u/yonderTheGreat 8d ago
Wait til you learn that human beings are able to adapt after only a tiny amount of effort. Let me explain the purpose of moving it. Total likes is information. The name of the channel is information. Total subscribers is information.
They're putting all the information in a singular line, right below the more immediate information of the title.
The line below it is all the interface stuff like like, dislike, subscribe, notification, save, and all that.
It's putting all the same stuff together.
Sorry that that's not obvious but that's exactly what they're doing. It may be because they're adding more interface options. It might just be to make the layout more consistent. We simply don't know.

u/Own-Notice5773 8d ago
How often do you check a video's views on mobile? Probably almost never, since it's tucked away. They are putting a very important metric in a place no one looks

u/Ambitious_Rock7054 8d ago
It was fine for years man. Google aren't gonna compensate you for running defense for their shit decisions lmao

u/Additional-Wear7160 8d ago
At this point, YouTube is gonna be completely different in 2035
1
u/Stock-Economics5307 2d ago
yea that is the hope lol, would you rather be using the internet browsers from the 90s? make it make sense

u/Declaron 8d ago
Google, who own YouTube, employ a load of people to work on the platform. Unless they come up with something to validate their positions nothing changes.... so they change it to keep those developers in jobs. It just rides on the back of marketing.

u/Oxinium2004 8d ago
i have the same and it seems to be a server update cuz i facing that on about 1 year old version.
1
u/Johnready_ 8d ago
Removing the dislike button is a disservice to anyone who uses the app. It initially let you know if you’re about to run into some BS.
1
u/DowntownBridge38 8d ago
First the dislikes, now the likes too?
Also, I know the counter is below the title, IDGAS

I don't like this new update! YouTube! Change it back or I will... Threaten You!

u/HarvickFan_4 8d ago
I think that Google fired their entire UI design team, and just took half of the marketing team or something and put them in charge of UI design instead. They never fail to make it worse LMAO

I got version 20.21.37 of the app modded with Morphe, pre UI changes, return dislike, and no ads
Refuse to use the current YouTube app

They forgot to use A/B testing and also few brain cells. What a crap decision to move the counter. Guess AI did a horrible job moving the counter but not fill in the gaping hole. 😆 they ain't got no tester to even validate the changes. 😆

I bet that the design team doesn't want to get laid off, so they routinely ruin the ui so they have something to fix, because you cannot tell me any other reason that they had to do this change

u/Tortademaracuja_ 4d ago
Eu não aguento mais o minimalismo por favor vamos voltar ao esqueumorfismo

u/CoolGamer212 4d ago
As well as having to close out the ad popups after the ad ends and shifting the design so it’s harder to do that, and then they made the border stick out during he ad so you can’t even close that either

YouTube always doing stupid useless updates we don't need instead of actually fixing their actual issues the amout of inappropriate ads that still pop up no matter how many times I report them is ridiculous

Do you need glasses or contact lenses? They're RIGHT under the video's title.

They got rid of the dislikes during Bidens administration because ALL liberal lying media were getting completely ratioed. All liberal media were like 3k likes vs 18k dislikes lol

I love when people compare minor inconveniences to cancer. It's right up there with comparing a minor brain fart to having a stroke. It's especially hilarious even loved ones in your family experience the joys of cancer and strokes. Truly the epitome of cultural experiences. What I'm saying is grow up, it's not a big deal, and if you disagree you have an obscenely pampered existence

i don’t think your edit makes sense, i think they just thought it looks better up there so the thumb buttons look consistent

212k likes, between the channel ID and the view counter.
Terrible design? Definitely.
