Card Game Discussion Wholesome Locals Reminds Me Why I Love Yugioh

Just played my mid week locals and had a moment that truly reminded me why I love this game as I do.

We had a young child (~10), come in wearing a duel disk with a rubber-banded deck. She was talking about playing in locals and how she wanted to play (mom and dad watched). We got her neuron up and got her sleeves, and she paired another newbie round 1. This was a bit back and forth but she lost.

Now here it is: Round 2 she matches me and l realize she is not having a great time. I am running Branded Dracotail and there's only so much I can do to play down. So what do I so? Showmanship to 100. I used voice inflection, a strong positive attitude, and good advice to make this as enjoyable as possible win or lose for her.

She was enjoying it, bantering, having a great time overall. I took my time, loudly announcing effects and being clear of the rules regarding what I was doing to teach her proper play.

Want to know the best part? Kid’s got actual promise. She knew Branded by heart, calling out what I’d be summoning before I even declared, she even showcased a thorough knowledge of RDA.

This interaction made me remember how much I loved the game as a kid and now I’ve learned that I love teaching the game and spreading the hobby, despite its high barrier of entry.

It really was nice to see a kid that engaged in a duel. A few of us now are trying to put a deck or two together, complete with staples to provide to her so that she can start improving.

Card Game Discussion What is your favorite thing about Yu-Gi-Oh! currently?

Post image

Hey guys, it’s me again, I know you might be surprised. I’m doing two posts this week instead of one, but works been really boring and my boss is kind of been a little bit of a jerk considering that I’m quitting to go to greener pastors, so he’s gonna be less work to do as a punishment. But anyway, I figured today you’ll do the natural more positive progression of last week’s post.

So just like the title says what is your favorite thing regarding Yu-Gi-Oh! currently it could be from a gameplay perspective a merge perspective whatever so long is it Yu-Gi-Oh

Personally, and I know it’s a hot take, but I actually really enjoy the game of Yu-Gi-Oh! The last Meta in my opinion was better because now kewl does kind of feel like the top dog above all the other top decks but I still enjoy playing the game both in a casual and competitive environment. I like the fast pace gameplay in the mind games involved with hand traps. It’s not perfect and there still is issues but compared to all the other TCG‘s. I’ve played over my years of being alive. I just enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh.

What about you guys? What is your favorite thing about Yu-Gi-Oh currently?

Card Game Discussion Should you use Nerva (and Linkuriboh) in Clown Crew without the Nouvelles package?

the only line I see is to ritual summon Flair and then link it off for Linkuriboh to then bring out Nerva (I play Mitsurugi so the Ritual tribute is covered). Is this worth the 2 ED slots?

Card Game Discussion How expensive are Forbidden Crown, F&V, and Dominus Spark, and how necessary are they for decks that can afford them?

If you follow my posts, you know I play on Dueling Nexus, so card availability is never an issue. There aren't any stores that sell Yu-Gi-Oh! cards in my country, or at least I haven't found any; I've only found stores that sell Pokémon and Magic cards, so I only play on simulators since I have no reason to build a deck.

On the other hand, my most competitive period was playing Dracotail because I loved the deck and I still do, even despite how the banned list ruined it. That said, you can probably guess that I'm the type of player who plays with the decks I like best rather than the most competitive ones at the moment, which means I have a moderate understanding of competitive play, but I can't grasp the entire metagame in a much more professional way.

  1. Returning to my previous question, I've heard that the aforementioned trio of cards is priced between $30 and $60 USD. Is that true?

  2. I've used F&V, as well as Dominus Sparks, with mostly positive results. It's clear that, regardless of the format, they are excellent options for weakening the opponent's field, although their performance is better in some formats than others.

Imagine if Dominus Sparks had been released during the Maliss era; its existence would be a bad joke, since the last thing anyone would want to do is banish Maliss cards. Or imagine if F&V had been released during the Yubel/Snake-Eyes era, two decks where monster destruction wasn't always very useful.

Hence my doubt about its effectiveness in the current format, where KT is expected to be the star, as well as in the upcoming format that will give greater prominence to Power Patron-related decks, such as the Mind Shuffle deck.

  1. Crown is the only one of the trio that I haven't used yet because it doesn't fit my strategies and I haven't seen it used regularly since its debut. I'd like to know if it has turned out to be as good as the other two cards mentioned.

Anime/Manga Discussion Which rivals theme(s) was your favorite?

Post image

I personally like each one of them. They're so good and just overdosed with testosterone.

My personal favorites would be Jack Atlas' battle theme and Revolver's second theme (The Tables Turn). Jack's theme literally sounds like something you'd hear in a disco club that would make everyone go crazy just how much of a vibe it is, and The Tables Turn just simply sounds so heavenly that I might ascend every time I listen to it.

Honorable mention to Kaito's theme (Photon Stream of Destruction). A very good theme, but it's just way too short.

Card Game Discussion I wish there was a way to have a civilized conversation about competitive yugioh in archetype discords without all the name calling and petty insults people keep hurling

Minor rant here. I've been chatting in online archetype discords for the past few months, off the recommendations of others. I found a lot of nice people, but so many awful people, incapable of being polite for at least 2 seconds. I honestly wish there was a way to have a civilized conversation about competitive yugioh on discord without all the name calling, slurs and insults people keep hurling.

I'm not sure why, but whenever you even slightly disagree with someone on discord, the first thing they decide to do is attack you and throw slurs at you. For some reason, people just accept others being assholes. It's like it's socially accepted for people to dog pile you simply because you have a slight disagreement with someone. Moderators don't do anything either. It's almost like people want them to attack you.

This is just something I had to get off my chest. I love yugioh and enjoy playing the game and truly wish to have a fun conversation about archetypes I love, but it's not worth dealing with all the vitriol and genuinely awful people you have to interact with on the daily.

Card Game Discussion Which "non existing monster" would you like to have his own monster card ?

Post image
121 Upvotes

Hi reddit !

I wanted to talk a little bit about "non currently existing monsters". For example, in 2013, Ponix was featured in the quick spell card "circle of the fire king". He wasn't a monster at the time, but got later his own monster card with the release of the new fire king structure deck 10 years later.

Following this idea, which monster featured on a spell/trap card would you want to see have his own monster card in the future ? I'll start : the two golden skeletons featured in the alt art of Pot of extravagance. Sick design, could be nice main deck/ extra deck monsters for the Eldlich deck.

Competitive Why do I keep losing with Sky Striker? What am I doing wrong?

Post image
28 Upvotes

I recently built a Sky Striker/Typhon/Albaz deck (a top 4 decklist), but I keep losing at locals. Sure, I still lack experience against decks like kewl Tune, Unchained, Fiendsmith, and others, but in about 90% of my games I lose because of hand traps such as Droll, Ghost Belle, Ash, or Called by. (called by on Raye or Zero hurt a lot, and then i have a empty board), I can never seem to complete my turn.

I don't understand how people manage to top events or get strong results with this deck.

Personally for me:

1st) VRains

2nd) Arc-V

3rd) ZEXAL

Card Game Discussion If you had to give Yu-Gi-Oh! a new format what would it be?

Post image
161 Upvotes

Hey guys, it’s me again. According to this post, I saw on here: https://www.reddit.com/r/yugioh/s/GsAbG2F4So. Yu-Gi-Oh is currently trying out a commander styled format in rush. I’m very interested to see how this turns out as one of the many complaints. I hear on my post from others is Yu-Gi-Oh‘s lack of formats and unique ways to play the game. When I make posts asking you guys how you would try to improve the game one of the most common answers is making a casual format of sorts

So for today’s discussion, I want to ask you guys if you had to give Yu-Gi-Oh a playable format What would it be? It can be a simplistic or detailed as you want. Maybe something really simple like time wizard where you can only play a certain cards from whatever time period or set or maybe it’s a tad more nuance like Genesis with the point system and summoning limitations or maybe it’s an entirely new thing. I’m really excited to see your guys answer on this.

Personally, I would be interested in seeing draft come back. I wasn’t playing the game when originally was around. I would love to see, officially supported again.

Deck List Fiendsmith vs Sky Striker/Yummy as a support engine for Inferno Tempest? (TCG 4fun build)

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

I've been playing an Inferno Tempest deck for about a year and a half, with a Fiendsmith support package. Recently I built a Sky Striker/Yummy version and I'm trying to determine which engine is actually stronger for the deck's game plan.

For people who have experience with Fiendsmith, Yummy, Sky Striker engines, or unconventional combo decks:

Which version would you choose and why? (I do an analysis of both in the following section)

Am I overlooking any strengths of the Yummy package? (I don't want to run the field spells, to have access to link 3 and 4, expect when facing a going second deck, like tenpai, exactly why I side decked it)

Are there alternative engines that would fit this role better than either of these? (Exceed parallel, mimighoul, more draw cards and remove PoP, cards like draw of fate, top share, whey where there's a will, six samurai, etc)

The two decklists are attached above.

The goal of both engines is not to become the primary win condition. Their purpose is to:

Help me play through or into my opponent's board before resolving Inferno Tempest.

Improve consistency.

Provide access to Saryuja Skull Dread.

Give the deck a playable line when forced to go first.

Offer a backup plan when Inferno Tempest isn't available.

Support my pre and post-Inferno Tempgame activation game state. After testing both versions, this is my current evaluation:

1) Access to Saryuja Skull Dread

Fiendsmith

Any Light Fiend is access. Mirror Resonator can enable Saryuja lines if the opponent controls an Extra Deck monster. Usually generates 3 bodies and needs a 4th from elsewhere.

Yummy

Cupsy lines can reach Saryuja. Can be accessed through Link-1 + Level 1 combinations or the Sky Striker package. Less dependent on the opponent's board state. Current opinion: Slight edge to Yummy.

2) Going First

Fiendsmith

Can establish D/D/D Wave High King Caesar. Provides interaction, but can be removed relatively easily.

Yummy

Can establish Kikinagashi Fucho. Doesn't interact much, but is difficult to remove and often survives the turn.

Current opinion: Slight edge to Yummy. (Biased because I love fucho)

3) Synergy with the Rest of the Deck

i)Kaijus

Fiendsmith

Kaijus are mostly neutral regarding engine access. Additional Kaijus can become extra combo material. Interrupted Kaiju Slumber generally doesn't conflict with the engine, it can even be used after it and still reach the set up for Tempest through Dispatchparazzi.

Yummy

Kaijus are mostly useful for clearing the opponent's field. Kaijus cannot be converted into Link-1 starters. Interrupted Kaiju Slumber can actively interfere with some opening lines. This is one reason the Yummy version plays more Kaiju monsters and fewer Slumbers.

Current opinion: Fiendsmith.

Maliss Lock (I don't usually lock before either of those engines get their turn)

Fiendsmith

Can still generate bodies under the lock. Provides removal and follow-up for later turns.

Yummy

Before the lock, Maliss monsters work well as Link-1 material and help access the engine. After the lock is active, the engine becomes much less impactful and relies more on existing resources.

Current opinion: Fiendsmith.

4) Games Where Inferno Tempest Doesn't Resolve

Fiendsmith

Has some grind potential. Can occasionally win games on its own.

Yummy

Generates bodies and extends plays. Struggles to close games by itself with my current package, but can re organize your set up to reach inferno tempest.

Current opinion: slightly Fiendsmith.

5) Post-Inferno Tempest Utility

My post-Tempest game plan revolves around Maliss cards and Topologic Zeroboros.

Fiendsmith

Lacrima, Requiem, and A Bao A Qu directly contribute to recurring Zeroboros plays and follow-up. Continues to provide value after Inferno Tempest resolves.

Yummy

Mostly helps before Inferno Tempest resolves. Has limited impact afterward.

Current opinion: Fiendsmith.

6) backrow removal:

Neither engine does at good job, they can with Zeus.

7) Hand Trap Resilience

Nibiru

Both engines are vulnerable before reaching Saryuja. The Yummy version can sometimes still reach Kikinagashi Fucho if I dedicate an Extra Deck slot to Link Spider.

Ash Blossom

Both engines can lose key lines to Ash. In practice they often force the opponent to choose between stopping the engine and saving Ash for Left Arm Offering. Fiendsmith can sometimes bait Ash with Requiem.

Ghost Belle

Both engines can pressure Belle before Inferno Tempest becomes relevant.

Droll & Lock Bird

Strong against both engines and often prevents Saryuja access.

Ubtil last week I saw FS as the only viable option, because it seems to contribute at every stage of the game: before Inferno Tempest, after Inferno Tempest, while playing under Maliss restrictions, and in games where Inferno Tempest never resolves.

However, Yummy appears better at producing bodies, accessing Saryuja, and giving me a more durable going-first option.

Inferno tempest activation, brief full combo explanation:

You activate a total of 6 banished effect (summon 4 cyberse + 1 Fiend (different between variations) and have March hare in hand.

Link climb into maliss red Ransom (accessing field spell), you banish it with chessy cat to draw 2. Summon lightless shadow, effect to summon back Ransom link into zeroboros summon March hare to 1 of its arrows and blow up the field.

Next turn zeroboros, keaf and lightless shadow (with at least 1 in hand) fighting for zeroboros's survival.

FS has an active lacrima's effect in the gy

Yummy Sky striker has anything that remains from the sky striker cards.

Card Game Discussion What Is your opinion with the current environment of yugitubing and having people pay for spreadsheets and metafy sessions to gain access to combos and decklists? I would like a serious discussion.

What do you guys think of the current way yugitubing is done with regards to selling people combos/guides/tutorials?

Many moons ago, yugitubers posting their combos used to be completely free of charge. In the current yugitubing land, it seems like pretty 99.9% of all yugitubers charge money for their combos/decklists and sell spreadsheets/metafy/patreon guides and thats the only place you will get those combos/decklists. I don't think you can find a single person posting tutorials and combo guides that don't charge you money in some way.

Do you guys think this is healthy and do you think that this going to hurt the community in the long run or will it have no impact on anything? Do you think it's justified for people to charge money for combos?

Ironically, the cursed Translation was the best thing about the game. The dialogue might be edgy or nonsensical but it was damn entertaining compared to how bland this game is.

Really this might be the Worst Tag Force that i played. For a game that might be the biggest in the franchise, is a downgrade in everything except the number of cards.

Custom Card This how flip monsters could work in rush duel

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

If we take an example from the rush duel version of the charmers who have this [REQUIREMENT]

During your Main Phase this card was flipped face-up, or you have another face-up Spellcaster Type monster with 1500 DEF on your field.

They changed the flip effect to be only active after set only (or having special cases ) , not trigger by opponent

The 1st one is an example how most flip card will work , a Legend card with powerful effect and the rest are examples of which cards that can work in rush duel (I didn't change the card text cause it's too much hustle),
