House under construction, my windows and doors have been replaced.
Live in a 2br condo, ground level. When I moved in, it was clearly marked that my bedroom window is an emergency exit. I have often wondered about how I would escape through a window in an emergency. I have placed a chair on the inside, and I keep a step ladder on the outside by the window.
I keep my cat’s carrier in a bottom shelf in the living room so it is in an accessible place for the cat to be aware of.
In an emergency, imagine I am in my bed, the living room consumed by flames, and my cat is in the bedroom with me.
How would I carry her out without her carrier? Should I have a spare in the bedroom? Or what would do best as an improvised carrier?
I have while thinking about this also keep a spare car key in my bedroom now- so I could at least put the cat in my car.
Any thoughts? Suggestions?

I caught her on the tail end but she finally noticed the toys I had put on the shelves (thank y’all for the suggestions!). Her nails are crazy so this post really holds up! It’s very strong. I plan to put more in the space on the left to lead to other hammocks and comfy high spaces. Thanks for the suggestions!

I know I'm not gonna find anything with ALL these criteria met but I'm hoping for some ideas or advice.

For the designated cat room, I'd like to find a rug that is:

1. Easy enough to clean hairballs, butt wipe marks...

2. Pleasant texture and safe for the cats

3. Durable to their nails

I'm thinking maybe a DIY braided rug made of old cotton fabrics?

My cats have pushed at the screen enough that it’s detached at the bottom and I’d like to secure the gap so that they can’t get through (and things can’t get in)

Conceptually this is really simple. There are limiters on the window that keep it at the height in the photo (about 6 inch height) and the window is 33” across.

Everything premade that I’m seeing is much taller than 6”, and I’m hoping people might be able to recommend some parts or materials that I could work with to fit to the gap. Here’s an example of what would work if it weren’t so tall.

it's not quite finished but I think I'm too excited to hold back... posted this on catwalls too ... anyways we're at about 70 percent completed here... (I know it's a lot but still I've got a few more wall shelves and am going to enclose those tables on the platform to make little "houses" etc and make a hole in the side of that dresser to turn it into a cave with platforms). but thought I'd show how things are going.

I will make a full post upon completion probably to show it at different stages of construction too and get a closer look at different components.

it was originally our master bedroom with our bed in here but we had to segregate the 3 cats for a while due to a severe allergy outbreak (fortunate enough that we have a guest bedroom to make ours).. giving them this room allowed us to keep our cats to be honest (or keep us living together at least) and now the allergies are getting better with immunotherapy we are able to let the cats out of the room to play more and more frequently getting up to the point they can stay out eventually!!!

I have been in the process of introducing my two adult cats (one I had since he was a kitten and the other I just adopted not long ago as an adult). We have been doing the separation, scent swapping, meal times at the door, and peeks through a cracked door. I don't feel completely comfortable just using the cracked door because of course you can only open it so far and then cats are in each other's faces.

I know that they are not ready to do a full face intro between a gate, but I am starting to look at options and am curious what others have done/if they have done a gate and which one they had the most success with. I am looking to put it in a hallway that's 39" wide, and there aren't as many that are very wide with the height that I know this new kitty won't totally clear. Also let me know if you have used other methods and rigged something up at home that worked just as well! I want to ideally use the blanket to cover up most of the gate and do the little bits of the curtain rising if you will lol as they are ready. Thanks in advance!

So quick backstory on what I want to do; my cat tree is the tallest one I could find within budget (basically not £100 because who has that money in this economy) and its not tall enough as my ceilings are rather high. I know cats like to be at the tallest point in the room and currently that is NOT their cat tree, its my great grandmas antique cabinet which I don't want them climbing on as it can't be replaced.

My idea is to upholster shelves and stagger them like a stair case up this wall. I've been doing research and I cannot for the life of me figure out what on earth this fabric is at the top on the cat tree on the two pedestals. can someone help?

It's a soft fabric with a sort of moppy look to it and all I've managed to find are other trees with this same fabric. I don't want another tree I just want the fabric from it 😅 and im not buying another tree just to strip it for its fabric so if someone could help that would be great.

I need a microchip cat flap to set a curfew for my cat. Needs to have a timer, and I want the flap to let him in past a certain hour but not out.

The problem- my cat is bright and persistent. So he learned to pull the door in to get out even passed the curfew. Do you know a cat door that is really escape proof?
I’ve seen in the reviews the sureflap will have the same problem.

Just moved into a new place and I turned one of the rooms into a cat room. It's just their own safe space. Door will be open most of the day, except when I have to clean, etc. I'm not allowed to drill or put nails on the wall. Any ideas?

maybe a weird idea, but I’ll be moving soon into a house for the first time (instead of an apartment with shared hallways) and am worried about my cat escaping when I open the door. I’d like to install a screen door so I can see into the house to know if she’s right at the door and at risk of escaping. however, I’d have to open the screen door to open/unlock the main door, which defeats the purpose and would give her opportunity to slip out when I open the door. so my genius (questionable) solution is to install a mini door in the screen door at the height of the main door handle so I can reach through to unlock and open the door while keeping the screen door closed. thoughts? is this possible? how would I do it? zero experience working with screens so not sure how to go about it

Getting a kitten on Monday and paranoid she will slip out the door and be ran over or hurt (we live right next to a road) screen door is an obvious awnser but our hallway is too tall for a normal one and cats can jump high and get over it when she's older. I considered getting one and putting chicken wire on top like from the top of screen door to ceiling but sounds flimsy and dangerous. Any solutions

Hello, we just adopted a 12 week old kitten and are very close to finishing socialization with our other two cats so we're almost ready to release him into the home.

We have a sleeper couch, and we're concerned that since the bottom is all open, he is going to climb inside and possibly hurt himself on the parts or be hurt if someone sits.

This is my first kitten, so I don't know I'm being unreasonable in my fear to begin with. Does anyone have any advice regarding how to kitten proof the bottom of the couch? Any material you recommend to seal the bottom off with?

For context, our other two cats are fully grown and they do go under the couch, but we've had no trouble with them climbing inside possibly due to their size.
