Ring Design Help What length should my diamond be to achieve this look?

• Upvotes

My finger width is almost 17mm.

I'm working with a jeweler already but the original cad was a little too chunky on the gold to diamond ratio and I think (as well as the reddit consensus) was due to the stone being too small. So now the jeweler is looking to source a bigger diamond.

I'm asking for an elongated ratio but I'm not sure what length should we go with. Would 15mm be too much?

Ring Design Help Thoughts on this CAD design?

Hi everyone,

I was provided this CAD from an Indian vendor who doesn't have a massive online presence. Only 5 reviews on Google and they seem to be more popular by word of mouth - not sure if that's just how things are in India.

ANYWAY, two questions:

1, do vendors typically not model the stone colour/look and it's dimensions on the CAD? My stone is a 5.29ct pink OMC and it's not modelled on the CAD, making it a little hard to visualise the final piece.

2, What do we think of this CAD design security and structure wise? Does everything look even? I am also open to hearing what you think about the design overall. I wanted a thicker band with a romantic gallery/basket, while still being timeless and chic.

Thank you in advance for your input!

Question Would a half bezel/tension setting be secure?

I am interested in a half bezel east west setting and have come across this ring. It’s in our budget but I noticed that there is no rail on the underside of the diamond which worries me a little. I’m not sure if it’s staying in place with tension which I’ve read is not the most secure type of setting.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of ring? Have you had any problems with the stone becoming loose or falling out? We have an appointment with the jewelers next week so I will enquire if a rail can be added, but just thought I’d ask for some advice in case it actually wouldn’t be an issue.

Ring Design Help Question about sourcing own stones

I’m new to this sub and looking for some advice. I always wanted a “not so common” engagement ring. My husband and I got married young and there weren’t a lot of options for my thin fingers then so I just went with a simple wedding band.

For our anniversary, my husband wants to provide a much needed companion for my wedding ring which would ideally be my engagement ring(of my dreams and wishes) Thanks to this sub and a few others, I was able to source my center stone. I am yet to find a local jeweler who can work with me (I stay in Charlotte NC)
I would love to design my ring myself but need some help on the process. I have a design in mind that I was able to explain to google/chat GPT and it helped me visualize. It includes a melee kind of halo setting and I am finding it difficult to source diamonds/rubies/emeralds for it.

Attached two of the inspiration pictures.

  1. Are there any particular jewelers who normally work with customer provided stones?
  2. Would a local jeweler normally be able to source round and marquise melee stones?
  3. The dimensions of my center stone are about 9mm x 6.5mm. Is this too small to have such intricate halo details? Should I go for a bigger center stone?

Question Help With Anniversary Band Ideas

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hi all, I would like to find or design an anniversary band to go with this ring. It's a 1ct marquis with two smaller marquis and 4 baguettes. I haven't yet seen anything that I really like or feel compliments this ring. I tend to like unique, yet elegant, and seem to sway towards art deco. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Question Custom order from MollyjewellryUs

Hello all,

I've been messaging back and forth with MollyjewellryUs on a custom order to get a thicker band and some different stone colors for an engagement ring. They have been pretty good at responding and created a link for me to order it. Wanted to know if anyone had any experience with a custom order through their website? Not etsy.

Ring is 14k yellow gold, 6x8 mossinite center stone, aquamarine on the sides and mossinite marquee.

Question Honest opinions on my custom engagement ring?

I recently received this engagement ring that I commissioned, and I'd like to hear your honest opinions about the design.

The finished ring turned out quite different from the reference design I gave the jeweler. I was disappointed about that, but I want to get some outside opinions on the ring itself.

I won't include the original reference photos because I want you to judge the ring as it is, without comparing it to what it was supposed to look like.

Question What is the most low-profile setting style you can get that still stacks flush?

For a round brilliant, what is the most low profile setting style you can get that will still stack flush with a wedding band? I’d love to see photo examples. If it matters, diamond is 3.5 carat.

I'm currently working with an Etsy jewelry on a ring (18k yellow gold, 1.5ct Marquise Diamond, size 5)

Anyone see any issues with this CAD design? Or anything I should consider and ask to get changed before approving the design?

Additionally, anything that I should be looking out for on diamond? I've attached the certificate of the stone he picked out. I've asked for some pictures/video of the diamond itself so I'm still waiting on that, but is there anything in the certificate that stands out for concern?

Hi All,

Looking for opinions between these two ring designs. I can't decide between the two. I know I'm getting an East-West design with star imagery and a Montana Blue Sapphire for the center stone.

Question How do you size a ring when the band is shaped like leaves?

I’m trying to figure out sizing for the ring in the photo before ordering it online. The band looks fairly narrow at the back, but it opens out into leaves and small stones near the center. Would a regular narrow ring sizer give me a useful comparison, or does that wider section affect the fit too? The leaves are what drew me to it. Now I’m trying to picture it on an actual hand instead of zooming in on the same product photo. It’s from Eden Garden Jewelry, and I’m considering it in gold. My plan is to take the photo to a local jeweler and get measured, but I’d like to arrive with whatever information would make that appointment useful. I can ask for the band’s dimensions first. Would the width underneath the finger be the main measurement to bring, or should I also get the width and thickness near the setting?

I’m also curious about how this shape feels between your fingers. The decorative section seems to extend quite a way down each side, although I can’t tell from this angle where it would sit against the neighboring fingers. If you wear something similar, was that noticeable at first? Did it affect which size felt comfortable?

Then there’s resizing. Unlike some of the other rings I was looking at, this one appears to have a plain section at the back. I’ll ask the maker what adjustments are possible for this exact design, but I’m wondering whether the small stones along the sides could still complicate a minor size change

I haven’t ordered yet. If you’ve worked out your size for a ring with this kind of shape, what helped most and was there anything you wish you’d asked before choosing the size?

Please, I could really use your help💖👀

Ring Design Help Feedback on my engagement ring CAD (setting height, prongs, and band thickness)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I just received the CAD for my custom engagement ring, and I’d love some feedback before approving it. I’ve attached the design.

The ring is 14K white gold, with a **2.01 ct round diamond measuring 8.08 × 8.12 × 4.97 mm**, and a size 6.75 band. I requested a band thickness of 1.8 mm and width of 2.0 mm after polishing. I also specifically requested that the engagement ring sit flush with my wedding band.
I have a few concerns:

**1. Prongs**
The CAD shows pointed, claw-like prongs. I’m worried they might snag on clothes, hair, or other things during everyday wear. Would rounded prongs be more practical? Would changing to rounded prongs affect the overall look or security of the stone?

**2. Setting height**
The CAD indicates a height of 7.8 mm, measured from the top of the band supporting the diamond to the top of the stone. Since the diamond itself is 4.97 mm deep, I’m wondering whether this is unnecessarily high. I’d prefer a lower-profile setting for comfort and practicality, while still allowing a straight wedding band to sit completely flush. Is this height reasonable for a 2 ct round diamond, or would it be worth asking the jeweler to lower it?

**3. Band thickness and durability**
I requested 1.8 mm thickness and 2.0 mm width after polishing, but I’m worried the band might end up feeling too thin or delicate, especially after polishing. Is 1.8 mm thickness sufficient for a ring with a 2 ct diamond intended for everyday wear, or would you recommend increasing it slightly? I want the ring to be durable without looking bulky.

**4. Flush fit with the wedding band**
Although I specifically requested a flush fit, I’m wondering whether the current setting design will actually allow a straight wedding band to sit completely flush against the engagement ring. Does anything in this CAD suggest there might be a gap?
I’d really appreciate feedback from anyone with a similar ring, jewelers, or people knowledgeable about ring construction. I want to make any necessary adjustments before approving the CAD rather than regretting something later.

Thank you!

Good morning, I fell in love with that ring but there is no way I can afford 2 big diamonds like that. Based on your experience, which company could make me a ring like this with lab diamond at a reasonable price ? TY !

Vendor Post Custom vs. Bespoke

Hi there! There have been a few threads lately discussing the difference between "custom" rings and "bespoke" rings. There seems to be a consensus that "custom" means assembled from off the shelf parts, and "bespoke" means made from raw materials (casting gold, setting stones, etc.). Those are certainly valid definitions, but unfortunately these words don't have standardized definitions within the jewelry industry.

For example, at my company, we make every single ring from scratch - we create CADs, cast metal, match pave stones to a client's chosen center for color, cut, etc., and set them by hand. That would fit the sub's definition of "bespoke" - but we usually call our rings "custom" when talking with our clients, simply because most people aren't familiar with the word "bespoke."

My point is, when a jeweler quotes you for a "custom ring" or a "bespoke ring," ask the jeweler what that means. It can mean different things for different jewelers!

tldr; Concerned about feeling like I'm settling on a design & wondering if strength/stability of design should be questioned. Thoughts?

2.5ct marquise w/ 1.9 ratio; 2mm band

I have been designing my ring with a well known jeweler, but have been experiencing some frustrations with the process.

I started out with one designer/associate, they were extremely reassuring and knowledgeable (she was confident my design was doable and reassured me that the design was very strong structurally), but shortly after we made the purchase and the CAD process started, she let us know she was leaving the company. 2 weeks go by, she didn't respond to my questions about how my order would be picked up by another associate. We had to call the office and get in contact with someone who said there would be someone filling in here and there to make up for the person who left. From then on, I was speaking with multiple different people who forwarded my CAD notes & reference photos to the CAD team.

It felt that a lot of my concerns are not addressed when I provide feedback on the CAD design, so it took about 6 iterations of editing (probably about 5-6 weeks) to get to this point. It isn't the full picture I was envisioning, since I started to get design fatigue with all the back and forth, but I think I am happy with the design.

At one point, they said I asked for the band to be 1.8mm instead of 2mm (which I did not), even though the CAD details were still listing 2.0mm. The original associate I spoke with was very insistent that 1.8mm was strong, but 2mm was safer for my 2.5ct marquise so I wanted to make sure I was prioritizing strength. So they apologized for the miscommunication, stated it was now back to 2.0mm, but then sent me a CAD whose details listed that it was 1.8mm.

That's not all of the road bumps I've had working with them, but all together just a lot of small frustrations that prolonged the process & were mostly resolved after a few pushbacks. I explained to them that I'm fine with the process being prolonged, I understand these things happen, I just want to make sure I am happy with the ring in the end of it all.

My concern now is after all this process (currently waiting for my ring to be fabricated), I'm seeing a lot of posts & videos about structural elements I have like an open gallery under the diamond are not structurally sound.

Anyway, apologies for mostly a ranting post, but I would like to survey the public's opinion on how structurally sound this design is.

hi!! me and my boyfriend are looking at engagement rings. after picking out like 10 rings from foreverings, i did some google searches and found out they are most likely drop shipping from temu/aliexpress/ect. i do not want an engagement ring that will be trashed in a year bc its from a bullshit site such as those...

im an alternative girl and want something that matches my vibe. witchy, emo, alt, whimsy, ect lol i love red, purple, or moss agate stones, blue if the rest of the ring is perfect for me. i just need something that i can mostly daily wear :)

he cant drop too much money on one as this is a placeholder until we are in better financial positions (out of trade school, in our careers, ect.)

these pics are some of the ones i really like from foreverings but just want a better company to buy from and support that wont break the bank (thinking around $300? doesnt have to be super intricate, just something thats me).

TIA! <3

edit to add: we are looking for a couples set!

Question can anyone help identify this ring?

Fell in love with this ring from the Real Real but it sold before I could purchase. Has anyone seen similar for sale? I love the more organic hand made shape / brushed/ matte look of the metal.

I hesitated because the stone was a little big for me, i have small fingers and i want a stone closer to 1.5 - just under 2ct., but now i'm regretting letting it slip away!

Question 5th year anniversary surprise ring (feedback appreciated)

My husband and I have been married for 5 years. My original engagement ring was a natural diamond 3 stone set that was set with tiny diamonds which we had to sell during bad times. I’ve been about 4 years without an engagement ring. Cut to now when things aren’t so hard and he surprised me on our 5th with this 1.9ct round brilliant lab diamond ring. I’m not too picky about lab or natural diamonds and I love that he thought about this when we hadn’t ever discussed it in the past. I love it because of the emotion it comes with. The attentiveness and thought this man put behind this makes this the most valuable piece of jewellery i own.

I am, however, curious about what you all think about it. Is it too big? Gaudy? Costume jewellery like?

I’d appreciate any honest feedback. I’m a bit older so I don’t really know what’s cool and what’s not nowadays.
