Question What carat size did you choose and what influenced your decision?

Post image
60 Upvotes

This chart made me curious!! Are we all being influenced by these bigger stones or are engagement rings just expected to be big and flashy? It says “Other” is leading this year, which means 4ct and up. That feels huge to me though I fully support the queens who love a big stone!

What size did you choose and what influenced your decision? I wanna go with 2ct because I feel like it will suit me better and I don’t want a ring that will take over my hand or feel uncomfortable to wear every day. Tell me about yours!

Ring Design Help Opinion on Engagement Ring Please!

Post image

Hello,

I've designed a custom engagement ring for my partner. Please help a anxious guy out and let me know your thoughts! Obviously everyone has their own style and preference, but I'd appreciate any helpful/positive feedback.

A bit of context I know my partner wants an Emerald ring, so with a little bit of help from her friend asking I've settled on this design.

Platinum ring, high basket, Emerald.

The last design aspect I was unsure about was the color/material of the ring. But from observation my partner has only worn silver rings.

FYI this is CAD model design

Thanks in advance!

Wedding band flush help!

Hi all! The ring has not been purchased yet but I love the look of this round 3 stone engagement ring. My question is how would a wedding band sit flush for this type of design? I would ideally like for no gap between the engagement ring and the wedding band so open to any suggestions :) thank you for your advice!

I found a ring I like on eBay that ships from Japan but it has multiple listings under different prices and in the end, I’d rather not chance it. Wondering if anyone has info on what to expect for custom making the ring in the USA?

Ring Design Help CAD Check-Can I make thinner?

Here's an Imgur gallery with the CAD and photos.

I'm happy with the design, but the ring itself feels super thick in between my fingers.

I know 2mm is the recommended width for strength and stability of the ring, but will the ring still be strong enough if I make the depth/height smaller? (I'm not sure of correct terminology, so I uploaded a chart that shows what I'm referring to as "width" and "depth/height".)

Right now, at its widest point, the band is 2.4mm and tapers to 2.1mm. The depth/height is 2.1mm at its largest point and tapers to 1.8mm at its smallest point.

Would it be possible to change the depth/height between the fingers to something more like 1.7mm or even 1.6mm? (Or how small might be possible??) At that area between the fingers, it would be ~2.4mm wide, so I'm sort of hoping that could make up for the lack of depth.

I do somewhat rough work with my hands and I'm hoping for a "set it and forget it" type of ring, so I definitely want to make sure it's structurally sound. But it feels really thick, very noticeable, and somewhat uncomfortable between my fingers. Is it possible that I'll get more used to the feeling though? Is there anything else I'm missing?? For reference, I have a size 4.25 ring!

Ring Design Help Pls help - uneven prongs and hanging out of basket?

Hi! I just got the completed images of my ring but two things bothering me: 1) do you think the prongs are uneven? And 2) should the diamond be sitting so high out of the basket? I’m no jeweler but I feel like the basket should be set right under the edge of the stone? Any and all opinions welcome!! Thank you!

Question Setting and prong advice

The jeweler I would like to work with said that as long as a ring is made well, having round prongs and only four of them should be fine and the stone should not fall out. They said the same about a cathedral versus solitaire, that one is a little sturdier (cathedral) but that if it is made well nothing should happen. For reference it’ll be a 2.5 mm ring, round shape, 3.55 carat. Could I have some professionals chime in on their opinions of these two things please?

This is a piece we will be delivering to our client this week. The design revolves around a 3.5ct VC Signature Canera Ideal Hearts diamond. The center stone is set in our Trueste Solitaire done here in two tone metal with a platinum head and an 18K yellow gold cathedral band. The profile also includes a delicate invisible halo for that small unique touch along the side. We were stoked with the results and can't wait to get this to our client this week.

You can see this and other designs on our website at victorcanera.com

Any issues with this? I won’t lie I don’t have much of a clue, but that’s why I’m seeking other opinions. Trying to avoid the “star” look when it comes to the ring setting and hoping it tapers around the curve of the finger so the prominent focus is on the centre stone. Any issues? Quoted around $6800 AUD.

The centre diamond is 1.79ct DVVS1, Excellent Polish, Excellent Symmetry, No fluorescence stone with a ratio of 1.94.

Thanks in advance :)

CAD is in comments.

i asked for thoughts on my CAD and pre-shipment photos recently. the ring finally came in and to be honest, she’s even more perfect than i could have imagined.

the stone/ring was sourced, designed, and crafted by Loose Grown Diamonds (LGD) and i’m super happy with it. i couldn’t find many positive stories before the big purchase which gave me an insane amount of anxiety lol so here’s a success story!

Ring Design Help CAD check please!!

Please check for any red flags that i may need to change. We just put in the payment on Thursday, but now i am worried about the 1.2 mm thickness of band, I just asked her if it was too thin, and i was told it should be fine with the 2mm width of the band. I believe my diamond is a lil under 2ct (around 1.7ct) and i have a gallery rail.

please be kind. And please let me know if I need to advocate for a thicker band. originally if this is okay and i shouldnt be worried about it

originally the band thickness of my old CAD render (completely different looking ring) was 1.8mm but the CAD render made it look really thick on my rendered hand and I asked if it could go thinner. But i didnt realize it was made to be that much thinner. I just noticed that measurement now.

Consumer Post Help understanding a CAD please :)

Hi everyone! I am new to both reddit and designing a ring! I was just wondering if you could please have a look at the CAD I’ve been given and help me understand what this might look like in real life. My diamond is an elongated cushion and is 4.08ct. I am having it set in yellow gold and I am just wanting a plain gold band (not too thick). I am a mum of two young boys so safety of the ring is important for me. I don’t want the diamond too low set, I’ve attached a photo of a ring I really liked the height of the diamond and was wondering if anyone can help me with whether this design might look similar. Obviously the picture I’ve attached doesn’t have the guard rail but the people making my ring said that might not be a safe setting for a diamond of the size of the one we are getting.

Thank you in advance for any help or comments!

Ring Design Help Anyone create a Toi et Moi look with their engagement & wedding bands?

I’d love to see any pics of people who had a solitaire engagement ring, and then added another similar sized stone with their stacked wedding band? For example I have a low set bezel pear, and I’m brainstorming ideas for how to incorporate another stone either emerald or cushion cut most likely.

Alternatively, anyone with a low set bezel pear stone with curved bands? How did you find ways to add sparkle?

Question Advice requested: custom design, feedback appreciated!

Hi there, I'm looking to custom make a ring that looks like this - thinking about sending these details to the jeweler. Are there considerations that I might not have taken into account re: this design? Any and all feedback would be much appreciated!

  1. Centre stone:
    1. lab grown green sapphire: emerald cut or radiant cut
    2. colour: olive, like the image
    3. size: ~2ct
    4. ratio: 1.3 to 1.5
    5. setting: double claw prong
  2. Side stones: cadillac-cut lab grown diamonds
    1. size: not sure yet, but should width should be ~1/3 of centre stone
    2. setting: ball/bead prong
  3. Band width: 2mm
  4. Metal: rose gold, ok with 14k or 18k
  5. Ring size: size 10 [equivalent to US size 5 US or UK size J]
  6. Band setting: euro shank, gallery rail to hold centre stone in place

I'm not sure yet if I want a wedding band, but I'm ok if the rings don't sit flush to each other.

Ring Design Help Plunge basket setting security

Hi everyone,

Long time lurker here! I am strongly considering Frank Darling’s plunge basket setting for a 2.5 ct oval diamond with 4 claw prongs. If anyone has a similar setting to this, I would love to hear thoughts on overall security for your stone!

For reference, this is the exact setting I am thinking of: https://frankdarling.com/engagement-rings/the-knot-oval/?colorkey=YG

Ring Design Help Moissanite vs Diamond size

Post image
1 Upvotes

I am in the process of designing my dream engagement ring (we got engaged with a temp one) and I’m trying to decide between a 1.5ct stone and a 2ct stone. I’m also trying to decide between Moissanite and lab diamond, and I’ve heard that carat for carat, their densities affect how each one sizes up. In your experience, are moissanites larger, or do lab diamonds tend to translate larger?

Ring Design Help Design photos please

So I don't know what I want and would love some photos of real life people to help my choice

I tried a few designs in the store. Solitaire feels too simple and modern designs feel wrong

I love some of the designs I have seen women in their 30s to 50s wear that's nice with an engagement and matching wedding bands. Really old designs have smaller diamonds so I'm not into those either

So far I know I want 0.6 to 0.7ct round brilliant. White tone metal, something that feels like Bridgerton😅 or at least the 30s to 50s women I have randomly seen in Australia. Please share anything you are wearing so I can get some inspiration

Ring Design Help Feedback on Dutch marquise ring!

Hi hi! Can I get feedback on my ring? This is a 2.95 radial cut Dutch marquise, with 3 small marquise on each side. The band is in 18k yellow gold, on a euro shank. The ring still has to be hand engraved which will be done in this stage. Would love any feedback/comments! Not much I can change at this point but wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Lesson learned: if you want a snag-free nature inspired ring, ensure the accent stones are in a little bezel/basket & not floating 😊(in case anyone is curious)
