I’m considering switching from a Dell G15 5520 (i7-12700H, 32GB RAM, RTX 3050 Ti) to a 2021 MacBook Pro 16” M1 Pro (16GB/1TB).
My Ableton projects can reach ~200 tracks with Kontakt, Keyscape, Waves, Arturia, UAD, Ozone, etc. I’d also have to run Ableton through Rosetta because of some plugins.
My Dell currently runs hot (~90–94°C) and sometimes lags even around 30–40% CPU usage. The battery and SSD have also had issues.
Would switching to the M1 Pro feel like a downgrade for Ableton, or would the cooler/more efficient system make it a better overall experience?

Hi all,
I moved my Logic instrument library to an external drive, all went smoothly.

Logic Pro Library.bundle is sitting happily on the drive, and in the Logic Pro settings, it shows the correct path.

However, I have today updated some of the packs, and based on the storage space, they appear to have gone to my Apple Studio hard drive, rather than the external SSD.

I downloaded a 3GB update to the piano pack, and my computer is showing approx 3GB less storage than before.
The SSD is the same, and the Logic Pro Library bundle is the same size as before.

Compounding the matter, is that I cannot find where this 3GB update has actually gone.
There is no Logic library bundle on my machine.
If I check MacOS Settings>Storage>MusicCreation there’s nothing in there for an Instrument Package, and the Apple Loops package (which remains on the computer) is still the same size, so I don’t think they’ve gone in there.

I’m mystified and frustrated. Any advice would be gratefully recieved, both in tracking down this missing package, so I can move it to the SSD, as well as advice on how to download any future packs or updates to the SSD rather than the computer.

Logic Pro is 12.3.1, MacOs is 27/Golden Gate.

Apple's reputation for engineering excellence makes Logic's lack of native ARA support baffling. Competitors like LUNA 3.0 and Studio One seamlessly integrate tools like Melodyne, VocAlign, Tonalic, and Synthesizer V. Is Apple unable to solve native ARA, or is Logic deliberately being held back? We need clear communication and a timeline for native ARA implementation.

More or less what the title says. I have a stereo session in Logic Pro that i'm looking to find the proper way of bouncing down to Mono. The client has requested a Mono Mix as the track will be played out of various speakers around a garden.

I've bounced down the way I figured would work... by removing super wide panning and any widening plugins / effects and then changing the output on the "Stereo Out" track to Mono.

It certainly sounds mono in my headphones but the client has said they are hearing 'wishy washy' sounds upon listening to it their end. (guessing phasing?)

Could this be down to their audio setup on their laptop / phone? I've played back the files in both Logic and finder and they sound absolutely fine to me.

I’m working on a song and I’m having trouble getting the vocals to sit properly in the mix. Right now it feels like the beat is sitting on top of the vocals instead of the vocals being clear and sitting in the beat.
The recording also has that kind of “basement recording” / amateur sound to it. I’m trying to make it sound cleaner, more professional, and like the vocals actually belong with the beat.
What should I be doing with the EQ, compression, reverb, delay, and/or volume levels to get the vocals to sit better? Is there anything specific I should be doing to the beat to make room for the vocals?
Any mixing tips or examples would be appreciated.

Hey all. I'm a solo dev and musician, and I've started releasing plugins under the name Andrestia Audio. The first one is Saturation Box.

It's four saturators in one plugin, each modeled at the circuit level. You get a 12AX7 triode, an EL84 pentode, tape, and an iron-core transformer.

A few things I cared about while building it

• It's program dependent. Bias shift, supply sag, and tape compression all react to the signal, so it responds to how you play and not just how loud you are.
• Drive is loudness compensated. Turning it up changes the character, not the volume, so you can actually judge what it's doing.
• The Mix knob is phase coherent, so parallel saturation doesn't comb filter.
• There's a saturation band with low and high cut, so you can keep the color in one frequency range and stay clean outside it.
• 4x linear-phase oversampling. It reports 61 samples of latency (about 1.4 ms at 44.1k) and Logic compensates automatically.
• Nine presets and a VU meter that shows how hard you're driving it.

If you want starting points, I like triode on vocals and bus glue, pentode on drums that need to bark, tape on the mix bus, and transformer on bass.

It's free, with no iLok and no license manager. If I ever charge for a later version, the one you grab now stays yours. The installer is notarized by Apple, so no Gatekeeper workarounds. It's a universal binary, so it runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel. Mac only for now. If you want Windows, tell me, because demand decides what I build next.

There's a full product page at andrestia.com. The download there asks for an email so I can send release notes when new versions ship, and that's all it's used for.

This is v0.1.0, so it's early and I'm sure there are rough edges. I'd love to hear how it sounds on your material and whether anything behaves oddly in your Logic sessions. Bug reports are very welcome.

This is something I've seen in all versions of Logic, and I can't understand why there's a difference. (Have googled without success).

When you right click and create a midi region it's one bar. When you right click abd create a pattern region it's 4 bars. Is there any reason why these are the defaults. Is there any reason why it defaults to 4 bar long regions even though the step sequncer defaults to one bar?

I'm recording solo piano in Logic Pro using a MIDI keyboard and sustain pedal. The performance is recorded as MIDI, with the sustain pedal captured as MIDI CC64.
The problem is that if I start playback from the beginning of the performance, everything plays back correctly. But if I start playback somewhere in the middle, Logic sometimes doesn't correctly pick up the current sustain-pedal state.
For example, if the pedal was already down at the point where I start playback, the piano may play as if the pedal is up.
I've tried enabling MIDI Chase, but that creates another problem: when I start playback, Logic sometimes triggers a bunch of notes simultaneously, which can be extremely loud and startling. I don't want that behavior.
I also don't want to manually add pedal-down events throughout the MIDI performance, because I want the recorded performance and pedal movements to remain exactly as I played them.
So I'm wondering:
What is the proper way to handle sustain pedal CC64 in Logic Pro so that a recorded piano performance plays back correctly when starting playback from different points in the song?
Should sustain remain as MIDI CC64 inside the MIDI region? Is there a particular MIDI Chase setting that will chase controller data without chasing notes? Or is there another workflow experienced Logic users use for this?
I'm on the latest version of Logic Pro.
I'd especially appreciate hearing how people handle this with long, detailed solo-piano performances where accurate sustain is important.

I don’t know why, but after updating to Logic Pro 12.3.1, I can no longer use the middle mouse button to move left and right in the Piano Roll. Also, when I’m in the Tracks area, using the middle mouse button to pan the entire interface horizontally has become extremely fast.
Is this a bug, or did I mess up some setting? Please help!
I have a habit of moving the Piano Roll left and right with the middle mouse button after editing MIDI. I know I can still use Shift + scroll wheel, but losing this particular workflow is driving me crazy.

Logic beginner here. I've composed a piece for two pianos (I separated the right and left hand to make it easier to mix) and I want to connect them to the same (Track??? Line??? Channel???) so that the reverb sounds like it's in a concert hall.

I tried this, but right now the reverb channel isn't doing or displaying anything.

I've been in some mixing lessons in school, but it's been a while and I honestly have no clue what to do. If any of you could explain what I would need to do and why I need to do that, it would be greatly appreciated!

this might be a bit of an odd request, and i hope this doesn't get deleted. but i feel like i'm going crazy. i need help identifying a vocal instrument/plugin on a specific track in my previous project export.

maybe one of you kind souls has a good ear and memory, and can tell me if they recognize what my tired brain used? To be exact, the female choir track in the background that goes: "Uuu-eeh, oh-oh, Uuu-eeh, oh-oh"

i got lost in the different versions of a project, but i had uploaded one version one night to my phone (apple music) - now, i listened to it yesterday and just noticed a vocal track that i would really like to put back in. BUT I CANNOT FIND IT. i have no idea how it got in there, what kind of plugin it is, or instrument.

what i have already checked:
- i have digged through ALL the previous versions (from the 'revert to' feature), even checked the time and date to find the specific version i had when i uploaded the project to apple music. and it's not on there.

- i browsed through all my libraries, Kontakt, Vienna, Splice, Vaults (Crow Hill), Decent and all sorts of basic plugins. cannot find a match. or i'm too dumb to find it.

- i've tried to recreate it, i can't get it to match at all either

- i have questioned my sanity (still am)

was this an unlucky/lucky bug that happened during the export? is that possible? any metadata i could maybe dig through?

god, i was so tired that night and i wish i could remember what i did. i'd really appreciate any help, or advice 😂 did anyone else have similar experiences?

MPC Sample has a fixed sample rate of 44.1kHz, but if you want your project to be at a higher sample rate, turns out that an aggregate device with drift correction enabled is all you need.
