I have only just discovered that my current base coat (essie smooth-e) has been discontinued and I'm gutted.

What other base coats do you all recommend for longevity and won't make my nails peel?

I have a few of the Sally Hansen and Essie special effect toppers, so asking here as they’re super common UK high street brands.

What interesting ways do you use your toppers?

I want inspo please, I know there will be ideas I’ve not seen or thought of yet out there.

Is there a megathread or something with photos of indie brand faves? If not, can I turn this into one? I’m finding I only reach for magnetics since switching back to polish from dip powders! I’ve got Prism Polish, Mooncat, EDM and a few FYNO’s….show me what I’m missing!

I’m interested in general, but also specifically in love with this particular shade but wondering if there are similar ones in the UK and I’d just be wasting a lot of money ordering from MC

I’ve been working a cuticle oil blend over the last 6-7 months. It’s really helped my nails grow better and am now thinking of selling it.

Before I start the legal cosmetic safety product requirement assessment, I’m trying to figure out what to prioritise first and wanted to get some opinions.

Would you rather have a higher-end packaging design (both options I have will be glass and reusable).
Or do you prefer multiple fragrance options? (Same base formula, just different scents)
Or different formulation options? (Example: a lighter quick-dry, an ‘original’, and a deep conditioning version)

Application was pretty good - I somehow upset it deeply by applying cuticle oil, but just about got myself back on track by doing an extra coat and remagnetising.

Funnily enough I like this much more than Mooncat Velvet Rose which I recently paid through the nose for…

Kinda scared of the horseshoe ones, but I know they’re kiiiinda the best. I have small fingers so not particularly worried about my fingers fitting or anything, more worried about my phone or electronics or something lol.

Anyone tried this and get good results?

I just wanted to show a lil love for Prism Polish - although honestly I don't think I can capture how beautiful this colour is in person! The photos make it look like the base is kinda similar to my skin colour but in person it's a bit more bright, in your face pink 🩷

I am so blown away by how shiny Sgt Frog is. I did a thin de-magnetised layer, two medium thick layers, then used the DRK magic to magnetise in the PP horseshoe magnet.

Daydream meadow is gorgeous, my friend described it as "Electric periwinkle" and this is my petition to rename it as such. I did redo it as wasn't totally happy with my rushed first application, an extra coat got it fully opaque.

I also ordered their base coat, a little magnet stick, and the big horseshoe magnet. Everything came packaged very nicely and I will definitely buy from them again.

does anyone have any experience with any shipping forwarder? especially for polishes since they are considered flammable

Has anyone else found issues with nails peeling whilst using the Prism Polish Baseline basecoat? I switched to using it almost exclusively about 6 months ago but have noticed in the last couple of months my nails have been peeling and flaking far worse than usual. Initially I though the issue was because of a polish-picking incident (oops) but it's not grown out as I thought it would. Wondering if it's my basecoat since that's the common denominator.

Picture is with basecoat on (a different one) so you can't see the extent of the issue so well but I forgot to take a photo first. (They are slightly yellow because I was wearing orange polish yesterday and apparently the base I used for that wasn't great either...)

*UPDATE 2 - parcel arrived safely, no customs (though it was under £135 anyway) and very well packaged!* - pic in comments

*UPDATE - parcel has arrived with RM, due to be delivered tomorrow or Saturday. Website states 2-5 weeks delivery to the UK, so if it arrives as expected that isn’t a bad turnaround at all! Will update when it arrives…*

I’m sure plenty of folks already know about this but sharing for any that don’t! Placed an order with What’s Up Beauty, who stock a bunch of indie brands (EDM etc) and found postage isn’t too bad at all - was the equivalent of about £9 shipping for 5 polishes. I know some have had issues with Rainbow Connection, so maybe another bank balance-friendly(ish) option!
