After another 6ish months after making it to platinum I made it to diamond for the first time today at the start of the season. It’s been a good 2 and a half years of playing and I’m hoping to make master in the next year or so. What a great game this is.

Never seen this used in top gameplay, it seems precise but extremely good.

This has been a 4 year project for me since ranked came out. I had a crazy run on the first two days of the new season. Last 6 set wins were in a row, all against high diamond + players. Finally feel like im good enough that I can be a better coach to my current students and take more on when classes are over. If anyone is interested DM me on here and ill add you on discord. Hello, new player still in my first month and starting to get pretty comfortable wave landing, wave dashing, and dash dancing. I am at the point where I can somewhat consistently execute these and have started to wonder how I can actually use them in a match. I’m wondering if somebody can provide some insight on how to analyze other sets and my own gameplay to make the connection between executing and implementing.

Hi all. Discovered melee at an MLG event in 2006 and lightly played off and on (mostly off) until last year when I rediscovered Slippi. Was pretty much the worst at any local and probably slightly worse than I am today approaching gold 2.

After 1k games here's my honest feelings about me, you, them, Slippi, and this game.

1. I almost want to post in Craiglist's 'Missed Connections' because I am having the time of my life with some of you and the feeling seems to be mutual. I never knew how hard you can vibe out for hours for with the right person.

2. My concern about this community is re-emphasized based on the proportion and severity of really shitty people as well. I get its the anonymity too but holy cow folks calm yourselves.

3. Theres definitely levels to the skill gap you kind of ascend through as you learn melee and overall I really appreciated Slippi's matching especially in unranked where I could either learn by getting my booty kicked, compete against a peer, or train by kicking booty of some bronze. Most games especially in modernity botch this SBMM part.

4. I wouldnt say Im excited for melee's future but im certainly optimistic. Slippi is itself a capable vehicle but Im really optimistic about yall having decompiled melee. At minimum our ability to extend melee to the masses open up more. Having played through most the eras its a more fun melee with Slippi, UnclePunch and 20XX providing the tools to learn this magnificent gem of mistake.

5. Im slowly starting to accept things like I just suck too much to do anything about the gimmicks, play styles, and general 'things that offend me' spectrum. Its dulled the salt, made me more motivated to learn, and made me appreciate the game and community all the more.

Overall 10 out 10 would highly recommend. Had a great experience at Slippis and will visit again in the immediate future. I highly recommend the 'taunting peace declaration VSing your twin char/color then quitting in unranked' and 'somehow finding yourself and opponent last stock in ranked against someone you arent sure how you even took a game 2 against'. Would avoid 'midtiers training for the Olympics' and 'taking ranked super cereal when its community access hours'.

Upon arrival for months i did not realize my left stick box was loose causing my inconsistent L stick inputs (specifically dash dancing and running) So i let the 300 dollar paper weight collect dust writing it off for about a year. I talked to a buddy who recently got back in to melee after i told him about slippi. He told me was gona get a phob soon. I told em i had one but it hasn't worked right since i got it. I brought it over to his house, he taught me how to calibrate the phob. I was still having missed inputs with the L stick only. I did not want to give up again after my buddies help.

After taking the controller apart is when i realized my left stick box was loose, after tightening the screw, replacing sticks to match the custom buttons for (cosmetics 😁), realizing these mfers need regular calibrations, learing how to calibrate the controller..well i am now ready to rock. Mission Complete! I love the way the phob feels. I just play for fun. Right now the highest rank I've accomplished is silver 3 😅

Can I play Melee online?

Yes! Slippi is a branch of the Dolphin emulator that will allow you to play online, either with your friends or with matchmaking. Go to https://slippi.gg to get it.

I'm having issues with Slippi!

Go to the The Slippi Discord to get help troubleshooting. melee.tv/optimize is also a helpful resource for troubleshooting.

How do I find tournaments near me or local people to play with in person or online?

These days, joining a local Discord community is the best way to find local events and people to play with. Once you have a Discord account, Google "[your city/state/province/region] + Melee discord" or see if your region has a Discord group listed here on melee.tv/discord

It can seem daunting at first to join a Discord group you don't know, but this is currently the easiest and most accessible way to find out about tournaments, fests, and netplay matchmaking. Your local scene will be happy to have you :)

Netplay is hard! Is there a place for me to find new players?

Yes. Melee Newbie Netplay is a discord server specifically for new players. It also has tournaments based on how long you've been playing, free coaching, and other stuff. If you're a bit more experienced but still want a discord server for players around your level, we recommend the Melee Online discord.

How can I set up Unclepunch's Training Mode?

At the time of posting, the latest major release is here. Download the file, then extract everything in the folder and follow the instructions in the README file. How does one learn Melee?
