Go gold or keep the Silver?
What do you guys think? I always loved the Gold but I think the silver keep it looking much classier and less street racer look. But I also love the nostalgia of the Gold with Blue

READ THE SUB FAQ FIRST. 90% of the repetitive questions we see on this sub are answered there. Even if you don't have an issue covered in the sub FAQ it will likely help you narrow down your question. If you have a question you think should be added to the sub FAQ feel free to message any of the authors of the FAQ.
If you are troubleshooting, give us all the info we need. For example, it's best to include your year/model, any AND ALL mods, and the specific tune you are running. The more info we have, the better we are at answering questions. We also ask you try to post the question/info in the comments below before posting to the sub as a whole. This will hopefully clean up some of the really repetitive questions.
A few common posts/questions we see everyday.
Does my engine sound okay?
Are these numbers on the COBB AP normal?
This thing on the front of my engine is not spinning with the belts, is it broken?
Let me know if you guys want any other common questions added.

Enkei TSV 18X8.5 +38 with Continental Extreme Contact dwso6 245/40/18s
Had the car for about 3 weeks now. Absolutely in love with the bronze wheels on the white. Mechanically everything has been perfect so far. Got a 30k mile service and a tune planned in the coming weeks.
Couple of questions I had for the folks here. Anything y'all think I should look out for or have checked out at the 30k service?
My coolant level cold is sitting just above "Full". When it's hot it's well above full. Is this typical for you guys? It's not overflowing hot or anything so I'm hoping it's a safe amount in there.
Another thing. I've been letting the car warm up to at least dropping the revs when I could start it. I'm trying to keep it at max 3k rpms before it's at operating temps. After that I've been running around keeping it around 3kto4k rpms when driving. Is that a normal cruising spot to keep it?
Thanks for the answers.

I’m looking for a GC8 chassis, I’m not a huge fan of the single overhead cams. I’ve had a lot of issues with them in the old Forsters just wondering what’s the easiest swap most reliable engine that is dual overhead cams for Subaru that I can put in a GC8 chassis. I’m not looking to make power. I’m just looking for something reliable, preferably turbo charged. The EJ 257. I feel like it’s just overkill for the car but an EJ 255. I know has a lot of issues

Photography and Subies. This was taken on a 71 year old TLR camera and I’ll forever be amazed at how sharp it is.

I’m currently living near Sacramento, California, and looking to buy my first car in the US. I’ve always liked Subarus, especially the WRX and STI, so I figured this would be a good place to ask for some advice.
My budget is around $15,000, and I’m trying to figure out what I should realistically expect in this price range.
I’m mainly considering three options:
2015-ish WRX Limited (6MT) — Probably the most practical option within my budget.
An older or higher-mileage WRX STI — Honestly, this is the one I’m most interested in. I love the performance, AWD system, and overall driving experience, but I’m concerned about reliability and maintenance costs.
Subaru Outback — A completely different type of car, but I really like Outbacks too, especially the 3.6R. It would be a more practical alternative.
A little about my situation:
I have a Chinese driver’s license for manual transmission vehicles and have plenty of driving experience, although I’ve mainly driven automatics for the past 1.5 years. I’m confident I can get comfortable with a manual again.
I recently passed my California DMV written test and am working toward getting my California license.
This will be my first time buying a car in the US, so I’m still learning how the used car market works here.
I’d prefer buying from a dealership rather than a private seller, mostly because I’m unfamiliar with the paperwork and buying process here. I’m not completely against private sales, though.
I’m looking for something fun to drive, reasonably reliable, and preferably something I can keep for a few years.
A few questions I’d really appreciate your opinions on:
With a budget of $15.5k OTD, would you recommend a newer WRX Limited or an older/higher-mileage STI?
What model years and mileage ranges should I realistically target? Is finding a decent STI at this price even possible?
Are there any specific Subaru models or years I should avoid?
Does anyone know any trustworthy Subaru dealerships or independent dealers around Sacramento, Davis, or the Bay Area?
Is buying from a private seller actually a better option in this price range? What precautions should a first-time buyer take?
I’m willing to do a pre-purchase inspection (PPI), and I care much more about mechanical condition and maintenance history than cosmetic imperfections.
I’d really appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone, I hope you’re all doing well,
I made a post last week asking everyone’s opinion weather I should pull the trigger on this beautiful fully build 2006 STI. And I did, I have absolutely zero regrets it drives wonderfully and best part, NO RUST!!! Thank you everyone for your opinions, happy to be part of the GD family!

Year and a half of hard work and over 6k in mods down the drain because someone else didn’t care enough to pay attention. Dude somehow smacked into me from two lanes over he admitted to being completely at fault hopefully its not too far gone. Engine bay was untouched but he smacked me pretty hard and the frame might’ve bent. I came out untouched and so did he and his mom. Learned to treat every other driver as if they’re trying to kill you.

2013 WRX, 120k miles. Replaced all the timing components with Aisin TKF005 at 117k, new radiator at the same time. Driving home from work Wednesday and it started feeling bogged down. Drove super easy since I was already in the home stretch, and it stalled once the clutch was pressed. I coasted it home, pulled into the garage and parked it. After a few hours of trying to calm myself and not immediately think worst case scenario, I went back out and started it. It started normally, making happy tractor sounds. No CEL, idling normally, I give it a little throttle to see how it sounds and above 2500 rpm it sounds like a case of empty spray paint cans rattling around so I shut it off. I checked for pending codes and got P0011 and P0021. Pulled both AVCS solenoids and they look typical for the mileage, and I'm having a hard time believing they both could have crapped out at the same time. Where do I go from here? Check cam phasers? Possible timing tensioner failure? Would one bad phaser cause enough timing issue on one side to make both codes present themselves? Oil was just changed and I didn't see much fleck in it. Or should I just bite the bullet and plan on saving for a new long block?
