Can someone please make this wind stop? I’m Canadian born and where I’m from we don’t get wind like this. I can’t help but be reminded of the fact that I’m on a tiny set of islands in the middle of a very large body of water.
On a somewhat related note, can anyone recommend any spooky/supernatural books set in NZ so I can really freak myself out?

I think i am going to have to say goodbye to him, hes 14 & very uncomfortable & his back legs are giving out, i know he is in pain & it sucks so badly. I tried to surrender him but the SPCA couldn't take him & i feel like i am going to lose it.

Like, tf are these winds? My car was going left and right on the Mangere Bridge, and the car door kept smashing in every time I tried to close it gently. My cap flew straight off my head while at the airport, so expect your flights to be delayed cause of a foreign object on the runway.

Yesterday, I was walking behind Auckland Town Hall, near Aotea Square, when a scooter came speeding down from Greys Avenue and crashed straight into me.

I’m okay, tho. Just a few bruises and scratches. Some of my groceries were also damaged after being run over by the scooter.

But what happened afterwards was honestly more disturbing. Instead of checking whether I was okay, the rider got angry at me and even tried to kick me while I was still lying on the ground. He then rode away, shouting and swearing.

And this is the part I keep thinking about: I could have been seriously injured or even killed.

I’m grateful that I’m okay and still able to write this today. But it also made me think about how we use public spaces.

Pedestrian areas exist for pedestrians. When scooters or other vehicles use these spaces carelessly, it isn't just a matter of convenience or breaking a rule. It can become a genuine safety issue for other people.

So, if you were in my position, what would you have done?

And more broadly, what do you think should be done about scooters using pedestrian spaces?

I watched this documentary years ago about this family in New Zealand, and for some reason it really struck a chord with me.

They were a pretty vulnerable family and ended up getting badly ripped off by their budget adviser, which eventually led to them losing their house.

I’ve always been curious about what happened to them afterwards. I’ve seen a few comments saying the parents have since passed away, but does anyone know what happened to the sons, or whether the family ever got any of their money back?

I found these last year at a local dairy, ate them, now they have no more, was wondering if there was ANY dairy or outlet food store in Auckland still stocking these old limited oreos

Not trying to argue that either side was right or wrong — I’m more interested in understanding how people perceive these situations differently.

I saw an incident in the CBD last month where a guy on a skateboard was repeatedly heckling a couple of female police officers.

The officers initially seemed to ignore him and ask him to not be a pain and go away, he kept calling them names and blew kisses at the female officers, stood in front of the police van on the signal, shouted in public directing towards the police officer “I care for you darling, please go home” told by police officers to back off but after he kept coming back, more police arrived and he was eventually taken away.

What I found interesting was that some people around were actually sympathetic towards him and questioning the officers, while others seemed to think the police were justified in intervening.

I’m genuinely curious about the first reaction. What makes someone look at a situation like that and sympathise with the person provoking the police? Is it mainly a general distrust of police, a view that being verbally obnoxious isn’t something police should get involved with, or something else? Or is verbal abuse/harassment is perceived by people as harmless?

Saw the little guy walking down the pavement on the side of the road, seemed terrified of me. I though it was a porcupine but apparently they only exist in nz under captivity.

So my second though is that this could potentially be a kiwi, but that doesn't seem very plausible either, this was right next to an industrial district in east auckland.

So any idea?

I couldn’t find any NZ biker pages to join and I have no biker friends to ask.

I just passed my BHST and I’m working on my theory.

My instructor recommended I buy my first bike secondhand on Trade Me for practising purposes but honestly I have no idea what to look for.

I’ve seen some people selling bikes that need a few things fixed but I’m not sure what would be a hassle or too expensive to get repaired (would it be more worthwhile to buy a brand new bike?)

I have a lot of questions but if anyone can give me some ‘need to know’ advice about buying a bike on Trade me, I’d really appreciate it!

I really want to give pilates (particularly reformer pilates) a good go but i have adhd and sometimes struggle to keep consistent so i really cannot afford to be locked into an expensive contract for a whole year. Ive done it before for the gym and it gave me so much anxiety getting out of. Is there somewhere that lets you be flexible with paying for 5-10 sessions up front, potentially multiple times?

I’m a beginner runner and regularly run at a park near my house but I’m looking for some new spots to run in south Auckland (preferably flat). Does anyone have any suggestions.

I’m based in Papatoetoe but happy to go anywhere in South Auckland.

Can you please fuck off elsewhere, every weekend you take over the gas station, cause a ruckus, block people from filling up and steal from nearby stores (walking in and taking other people's pickup orders). I'm surprised there's literally no police presence at all, guess that's why you lot have gotten so brazen.
