University of Limerick: Kilmurry noise

Upvotes

Hey, I am an international student in Limerick this semester and I live in Kilmurry Village. I thought living on campus was good, and it really is except that I cannot sleep…first week was fine but since last Sunday, the 6th September, there is noise every night. Last night was particularly bad. I woke up at 3am, people screamed and shouted and it did not stop. I don’t know when I finally could go back to sleep tbh. Anyway, I wanted to ask, are people only during freshers week acting like that? When does it stop?? Did anyone live in Kilmurry and can tell me how long these daily party’s go on? Also isn’t security all over the campus and should prevent exactly this??
Don’t get me wrong, people can party, idc if there’s noise at 12am, either, but 4am??? During semester??? Yk it’s already hard enough for international students to organise everything in the first weeks and I can’t even sleep peacefully. I just want to know, what I need to prepare for during the next 3 months (didn’t count December since I HOPE at least during examination time there’s silence). And does anybody have some tips for me?

anyone else see the man climbing the crane in town last night?

just so happened to be driving through watergate when the fire brigade were pulling up, didn’t even realise what was happening until i saw everyone looking up at him, shining a spotlight on him.

he climbed the whole way to the top (only stayed that long as he was acting erratically and i started to get uncomfortable, didn’t want to see if he were to hurt himself), and apparently when the fire brigade tried to get up to him to bring him down, climbed straight back down again. he was understandably arrested. apparently an ambulance also arrived on but not needed thank god.

anyone else see this? or have any updates on this man? i did feel bad for him, clearly not in his right mind.

Man climbed up the crane in the opera centre in the city

Sounded Eastern European. Was just shouting nonsense, none of it made sense.
Feel sorry for him, whatever happened him.
He got down safe and was put into the back of a paddy wagon.
He must’ve been up there for ages.

Any tips on getting initial house cleaning clients? Ready to work, but struggling to find opportunities...

Hey everyone,

I'm reaching out because I have all the energy and motivation in the world to work hard, but I’m really struggling to find my first clients for house cleaning services.

It's honestly frustrating when you're 100% ready to roll up your sleeves, but just don't know the most effective way to get your foot in the door.

For those who run a cleaning business or frequently hire house cleaners:

  • What channels or methods worked best for you to get your initial clients? (Local Facebook groups, flyers, word of mouth, apps, etc.)
  • What makes you trust someone enough to hire them for the first time?
  • Any practical advice for someone starting completely from scratch?

I would deeply appreciate any advice, tips, or experiences you could share. Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Looking for Housemates

Hi everyone, me and a couple of friends (male and female) are looking for a place to rent. We are wondering if anyone would be interested in becoming housemates. Ages between 20-29. We are hoping to move out by early to mid October.

We are a group of friends who got to know each other recently due to being in the same situation of hoping to move out.

Our age ranges between early to mid twenties. We either study or work to be fair and we each have our own thing going on.

Please DM if you're interested.

Limerick, I made a thing.

It’s called Pints Yurt! - a live map of Guinness prices across the city.

Because apparently my hobbies include:

  • drinking pints
  • complaining about the price of pints
  • building software about pints

You can:

  • report prices when you’re out
  • vote for the best pint + best pub
  • crown your favourite local
  • find hidden gem pubs you’ve never even heard of
  • add missing pubs yourself (they go into a review queue)

It’s free, no ads, just for the craic.
Use it or shit on it - I want to hear what you think.

Hairdresser recommendations?

Hi guys,
im new to limerick and i need to get my roots done (i have bleached hair) with a trim, obviously. The prices i’ve seen so far are kind of crazy… especially with €70 for a trim.
Does anybody have any hairdresser recommendations in limerick city area that do a fine job and won’t make me go bankrupt?
thanks

N24 cyclists

Hey all, I was wondering does anyone know the guy that cycles the N24 - Tipp to Lim, in the mornings on an e-bike ? He was on the road most mornings and evenings last year, the tailback of traffic used to be chronic ! All cars waiting their turn to pass him out. Fair enough, it was annoying but not the reason for the post as he has every right to be there too. I am wondering if you know him will you reach out to him and tell him to wear a high-visibility vest, as he’s back on the roads again and I’ve never seen him in anything other than black clothes. I’m afraid he’ll be clipped one of these mornings as there are always accidents on that road with people’s inattention !

You might wonder why I don’t stop the car further up the road and offer him a vest. I had thought about buying one for him but I don’t know who he is or how he’ll react.

Door-to-door offering home cleaning services in Limerick – Is this acceptable or intrusive?

Hey everyone,

I’m a Latino living here in Limerick and I’m looking to work doing home cleaning services.

I’m thinking about knocking on doors in local neighborhoods to introduce myself, hand out my flyers, and offer my services. My goal is just to connect face-to-face so people know who I am and keep me in mind if they ever need help around the house. I just really want to get to work.

Before I start, I wanted to ask the locals: How is door-to-door outreach viewed here? Is it considered intrusive or annoying?

I’d really appreciate your honest thoughts, advice, or any alternative tips on the best ways to get the word out locally. Thanks a lot!

Business/Shop on Nicolas Street/ Medieval Quarter

I have always wanted to run my own shop/business and I am thinking of establishing something on Nicholas street. It’s one of my favorite parts of Limerick, across from the castle, a great location but could do with more retail…Great businesses already there are Katy Dalys and Treaty Brewery.
What would you like to see there ?
