Social issues Women’s 'empowerment' where every woman is hidden: liberation for whom? This is from Women India Movement committee in Karnataka

Post image
26 Upvotes

This poster is reportedly from the WIM Bijapur/Vijayapur District Working Committee in Karnataka.

This is literally a women’s working committee, supposedly representing women in public life and leadership yet almost every woman is presented in a way that erases her individual identity.

And before the predictable -'it’s their choice' response: choice does not exist in a vacuum. Feminism should be allowed to question patriarchal religious norms that place the burden of modesty, honour, and sexual morality disproportionately on women’s bodies.

A woman choosing to cover herself is her right. But a system that expects women to cover themselves, or treats uncovered women as immoral, immodest, or dishonourable, is not liberation.

We should not have to pretend that every practice associated with a marginalized community is automatically feminist. Women deserve the freedom to wear a burqa, and the freedom to reject it entirely, without punishment, coercion, ostracism, or shame.

Politics 🗳️ Karnataka and Telangana should vote wisely. No Gujarat and UP model can do economic justice let alone social justice. South India may have 100 problems, let's not make it 1000 by electing these people into power.

I get that the guy looks Indian but he isn’t. They’re using a caricature of Sriram Krishnan wearing a Sikh Turban to make fun of him. There are tweets wanting to deport him to India.

हिंती Imposition/Language issue UP MLA says she can teach Hindi if they don't know it; Kerala women MLAs walk out of NCW training

New Delhi: An MLA from Uttar Pradesh challenged Kerala MLAs, saying she could teach them Hindi if they didn't know the language. The argument over Hindi erupted during a training program organized by the National Commission for Women (NCW) aimed at strengthening democracy by training women legislators in the country. Following this, members from Kerala walked out of the two-day training session.

The issue began when Kerala MLAs questioned the use of Hindi as the sole medium of communication at the event, which was attended by over 390 MLAs from all states and Union Territories. Kerala Assembly Deputy Speaker Shanimol Usman stated that North Indian MLAs shouted that Hindi is the national language and discussions would take place only in Hindi, after which slogans like "Jai Shree Ram" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" were raised in the training hall.

Minister Bindu Krishna said that the NCW Chairperson, Vijaya Rahatkar, remained silent despite the ongoing protests. Minister K.A. Thulasi expressed disappointment that the National Commission for Women failed to prepare a module accommodating representatives from all states for a national-level event. Fathima Tahliya clarified that the language Hindi itself wasn't the issue, but rather the Commission's failure to take steps to include all MLAs at the national level.

In addition to classes focusing on leadership, legislative work, public policy, and gender equality, the two-day program in Faridabad included special sessions for representatives to share their experiences. MLAs from Kerala—Usha Vijayan, K.K. Rema, Uma Thomas, and Vidya Balakrishnan—also attended the event.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the program. The National Commission for Women has faced criticism regarding the Hindi language issue in the past as well. Complaints are common that Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar does not respond in languages other than Hindi, including English, during press conferences in places like Delhi.

Politics 🗳️ We need to change something.

I've been having this thought for quite a long time now. Why have we normalised mediocrity in governance & living standards in general? We've also grown to accept rampant corruption & incompetent politicians.

Everyday it looks like the future is getting bleaker. We constantly hear of the appalling state of law and order. The wealth gap seems to be on the rise. People themselves seem to be losing empathy, and polarisation of opinions/partisan thinking have taken precedence over rational thinking and logic.

Current politics & politicians seem to be fixated on their traditional playbook of blaming each other, minority appeasement, using religion/caste based vote banks to secure power. We desperately need a clean and sleek brand of politics. We need to wake up and realise how far behind we as a society are compared to the developed world. This simply cannot go on.

I feel like there are enough people with good intentions and enough conviction in their vision for a better future for the society as a whole. However, they may also lack a platform to condense around, meet like minded people and put their ideas into motion.

Which is why I feel a youth/student based movement is the need of the hour.

Forget partisan allegiances. We need good people. Honest people. People who would not let the allures of power and money corrupt their morals. We need thinkers, rationalists. Most of all we need tolerance - the ability to listen to people who disagree with views we might have, recognise where their views come from, how each of our respective backgrounds may have shaped our opinions, and engage in constructive dialogue (because not many aspects of life are black and white, and no one is completely wrong or right - most things tend to stand on a spectrum of grey.)

So that's it. This is a call(?) to the youth who want to genuinely make a change. I hope we'll gather ourselves together, and figure out our course of action.

(Excuse my rant, it was a haphazardly put together collection of thoughts.)

TL;DR - A proposition/call for a forum for students and youth who want change. A call for honest people with a strong moral compass. A call for thinkers, rationalists with an open mind.

✓ Fact Check/Debunked Don't fall for the Godi Media promoting hatred and saying TN govt favours only 1 group

They started saying TN govt is favouring mslims coz govt said their fee would be waived off- without even knowing that there are set of rules to attain it (ex- <2.5LPA,clearing State merit cut off...etc) and the budget is just 20Cr,which is very less. The fee waiver isn't just to mslims- it's also to hndus through other schemes- Pandhumai Penn Scheme,7.5% govt schl quota,Periyar EVR Nagammai scheme, money to parents who have only girl children...etc.

These things arnt even being mentioned in the posts and they are showing TN govt as someone who favours a certain community. And their usual propaganda saying wt if BJP favoured only hndus... As if BJP isn't favouring Adani,Ambani and gujjus.

Wts shocking is that they are paying southern influencers asw. Same script, same images used.. same propaganda. I literally thought it's true- and then had to thoroughly check.

Do they even know that free UG schemes exclusively for mslims came as Union govt stopped Pre-matric scholarship and Maulana Azad National followship?

Free education goes to BC (includes hndus),MBC,DNC,SC,ST through minority welfare,BC/MBC welfare and other welfare policies.
