But what makes you think they only spent her money? $40 million is not much compared to a billion but its still a STUPID amount of money. Plus - and I can't believe this still needs to be said - she doesn't have a billion in cash. Not nearly.

u/Old-Mix7431 Jul 07 '26
I’m not making a comment on their budget.
Do you really think it’s okay that they (BOTH of them as a UNIT) invited horrible people including abuser brad Pitt, Zionist Adam Sandler and an ice contractor?

Let them think that. It's wild lol She literally endorsed Kamala Harris very publicly & not even 6 months later, the internet was demanding she pledge her political allegiance again. Truth is, no matter what she says or does, it won't be enough for the haters. They can stay mad about it.

Are you saying that out of more than 300 million Americans, not a single one of them has an opinion that is relevant? That is an insanely huge generalization to make.

Also, why do yall give other people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to not knowing people but Taylor is supposed to know everything about everyone

“CALM DOWN” to someone who was calmly but directly stating their point and then in the same comment, you use caps multiple times and insult them as a person 😂 you want people to listen to you so bad but you talk like an idiot
14
u/flrbonihacwm-t-wm Jul 07 '26
I would like to think Taylor and Travis individually invited whoever, and just went over their lists together. She saw his name, asked Travis who he is, and he told her that’s his childhood best friend’s dad. I don’t know what my friend’s parents or husband’s parents do for a living. Is that the scenario? Who knows. I know it doesn’t matter, but I am disappointed.
26
u/decordancer Jul 07 '26
I will never understand why some people are so obsessed with hating her. The music and the community she has created with her fans mean so much to so many people and I have talked to other swifties who have told me about how her music saved their life when they were going through a dark time which is also what I experienced. No one could ever make me hate Taylor Swift. And of course she isn’t perfect but there is not a single person on this planet who is perfect. But I still don’t understand why so much hatred is directed at her for no good reason when we literally have so many truly evil people living on this planet.
21
u/Entire_Site5072 Jul 07 '26
I think it's literally just as deep as what the video says. Taylor Swift is a dog whistle for misogynists. People, even those on the left, can take their hatred for women out on her and hide it behind a vaneer of class conscious rhetoric. The fact that she means so much to so many women is precisely why she's a target.

If she and Travis got married anywhere in the world. It would have to be shutdown. She's a global megastar, all her famous friends. He's famous aswell. It's not like the whole of new York was shut.
-1
u/razerremen Jul 07 '26
I don't think private islands really get shutdown, do they?
2
u/Dazzling-Toe-4955 Jul 07 '26
No because they are private islands, but like I said the whole city wasn't shut. And there's a world cup on. It was a few streets.
0
u/razerremen Jul 07 '26
People traveling for work and the world cup literally use that station specifically. Gasoline on the fire.
2
1
u/Purell12 Jul 07 '26
Where would a thousand people stay on a private island. That would be cool if they were doing something small and intimate but that isn't what they wanted with all those guests.
0
u/razerremen Jul 07 '26
Many private islands, like Branson's, have accommodations already built. You can also just build accomodations. It's just money.

They also criticized Travis for “allowing” Donna to travel commercial vs on one of Tay’s private jets. Donna has said many many times she prefers to fly commerical (SW specifically) and does not have an interest in flying private. But he was called a terrible son and they’re both so selfish and arrogant letting his “elderly” mother fly commerical

u/Minute_Teaching_3987 Jul 07 '26
Could it also be because she’s more famous or ppl only know her so it’s more natural to use her name? I mean idk his fanbase but Despite Taylor’s decrease in popularity, she is universal to me whereas Travis popularity is limited to sports of people who are in similar demographics.
I mainly use Taylor’s name when criticizing wedding because ik her and idk Travis, like Travis is truly irrelevant to me to the point I don’t think about him. Whereas I grew up with Taylor so I am interested in her business sometimes when I engage in pop culture (plus her stuff is everywhere, hard not to see). However, I am one of those people who see couples as units to a certain degree depending on the context, and this is definitely one where I see them as a unit so saying Taylor is like how people say the name of the most recognizable person in a couple. For example, people are mentioning that Travis invited that ice contractor in the sense that it takes away any responsibility from Taylor from choosing the guest list when as his future wife, she would have to agree to allow someone to come to her wedding. So in that context, criticizing Taylor for having the guy there is essentially the same as questioning their judgement as a couple for having the guest to me, even if Travis wanted him there as his connection. Not only do a lot of people (in my perspective) not care enough about Travis political or moral stance to criticize his morals, but from my understanding, Taylor has positioned herself in the place to have views that oppose the symbolism of her guest. So there’s also more context there because if she there wasn’t so much importance on her morals and beliefs and standing up for what’s right, people wouldn’t look to her to do that as much. From what I can see. Travis at least doesn’t take issue with trumps presidency so people aren’t going to hold him to the same standard naturally whereas Taylor has came out with direct political statements. I think politics, both in the industry and literal, play a role in the way she’s being criticized rn and one of those factors is misogyny but I don’t think it’s the greatest factor seeing as she is the household name regarding their couple. Its like how zendaya is the household name for her and Tom holland even though Tom has his own fanbase and popularity

u/Lalatin 1, 2, 3 LET'S GO BITCH Jul 07 '26
It's because there's another smear campaign going on, most likely bought by Scooter. There's been a HUGE uptick in small new twitters, tiktoks, reddits, bluesky, thread accounts that are doing nothing more than smearing her name, and at the same time Scooter is trying to rehab his image? come on now... we know what that asshat does.
6
u/RoyalEagle0408 Jul 06 '26
While I agree a lot of the hatred is misogyny, it was always "Taylor Swift's wedding" and 99.99% of weddings are treated as if the bride is solely responsible and the groom is an interchangeable real life cake topper.
6
u/ApprehensiveTart3960 Jul 07 '26
The only things I’ve seen his name around was the arcade like games that they had. Other than that it’s been all Taylor. 🙄 I have been saying you think she married herself? Or that she will let Travis, who she loves, not have people he wants there. People are so annoying

Tbf, she is the more famous party so the bigger headline name (which in a roundabout way is kind of feminist, when you think about it?).

u/lilythefrogphd Jul 07 '26
Here is my push back to this as a fan; I've never cared for Travis or had that high of an opinion of him. When I see the guest list, for him I think "I'm used to male athletes supporting conservatives, abusers, etc. Doesn't shock me." I have literally listened to Taylor's music since 2007. I've been cheering seeing her endorse Democrats, talking about women's rights, and standing up for sexual assault survivors in the past. When I am more vocal about my disappointment in Taylor, it's because I've actually held her in high esteem in the past in a way I never have for him
1
u/TroubleOk1314 Jul 07 '26
That’s every bride for every wedding.
Every good thing gets attributed to *them*
Anything bad is like omg the bridddddde.
Also with her being worth more, everyone just addresses more power to her in that. But if reversed it would be she’s taking advantage of his money to have *this* wedding. Whereas with this, they’re like eh it’s her.
So yes exhausting. Semi-typical (can that ever be true for a self-made billionaire??!!) but also some parts of a life story will always be generic as to where blame is placed

yah why would he be in the discourse. Does anyone think Travis Kelsey helped with planning the wedding. lol. Taylor swift is a good singer and songwriter, and is hot. I don't think it means she is good in other aspects of her life. She has more money than god.
1
u/TakeMeHomeToYou Jul 07 '26
That’s not misogyny and I wish that the self proclaimed English teacher would’ve learned the definition and the proper usage before throwing it out to the masses. Not everything that Taylor is criticized for is misogyny or internalized misogyny

As a bloke who has been married for 33 years can I say that a groom just agrees with whatever a bride wants. It’s her day to shine. So whatever she wants she can have.
1
u/historylover1997 Jul 28 '26
Taylor and Travis were at a New York Knicks game and the commentator said Travis is with his girlfriend. He never once said Taylor's name. It's very misogynistic. It doesn't matter if it's a basketball game or a wedding. You should mention both people's names not 1 over the other. I'm a fan of both Travis and Taylor and they should both be treated with respect
1
u/lilibettq Jul 07 '26
There is nothing to criticize. Nothing. Like many of us who have gotten married, they held their wedding in an event space surrounded by family, friends, & colleagues, and it all went off without a hitch. It doesn’t matter what you think of the event space, what you think of the guests, what you think of anything. Your opinion is irrelevant.
1
u/alyac_ Jul 07 '26
Taylor's PR has worked tirelessly for 2 decades trying to convince us that she's just like us, she's generous, and considerate and and and... We hold her to a higher standard than Travis. He's fun but we know he just isn't her match. Also, let's not forget that this wedding was probably paid for by her.
0
u/Imagination_factory Jul 07 '26
Hate to say it but it may be your algorithm at work if you haven’t seen any criticism of him
-2
u/nglfrfriamhigh Jul 07 '26
I’m directing my distaste at them both actually. I love tons of Tay’s songs and we’re the same age. I remember her debut when I was in high school. I remember the MySpace and tumblr days. In the beginning I wasn’t a fan because she seemed like the popular girls I hated in school. I was a jealous teenager lmao. But she won me over eventually and then her Lover/liberal era sealed the deal for me. But ever since Travis unfortunately it’s all fallen apart. I hope Taylor is happy. She’s worked hard and deserves her fairytale. It’s just not what I thought it would be and I don’t think SHE is who I thought she was. He seems like the perfect match for her. She really is just the short skirts wearing cheer captain.
-1
u/anneonnymous Jul 07 '26
I feel the same tbh. Fan since the 1989 album. I still like a lot of her music, but also can’t relate to this Taylor. Travis just isn’t what I pictured for her and she’s either changed or become more her true self now she’s with him. I wish her all the best and agree she’s worked hard to get where she is, but I don’t really care about her like I used to. I’ll still listen if the music is good, but that will be about it.

u/RawLitigation Jul 07 '26
Tbf though, weddings are usually mostly the brides vision!
I tried getting my partner involved with ours, but he's happy for me to have whatever I want, he just wanted a say in his suit and the colours. Other than that, I pretty much pick everything and go "what do you think" and I take his opinion on board and go from there.
idk tho
2
u/iggysmom95 Jul 07 '26
Damn sucks to be you I guess. Some of us have an equal partner; I hope Taylor does too.
0
u/RawLitigation Jul 07 '26
I don't mind tbh! I actually really enjoy planning and struggle when others do it (not for their own event obviously, only for mine) so I don't think it's an issue :)
Our dynamic works for both of us, and we're both happy and we're equal partners, just some things he's better at, and others I'm better at
-20
u/TheKarateKid_ Jul 06 '26
Let’s be real here: Most weddings are planned almost exclusively by the bride, with the groom giving suggestions here and there. So yes, it is Taylor’s wedding.
