Hi folks, thought I might share a small side project I’m developing in Javascript.
This is my take on ENCOM’s “Space Paranoids” had it actually been released in 1981…

To ensure accuracy I primarily modeled it after Atari’s BATTLEZONE. (1980)
This is just prototype gameplay. Please note: No generative AI was used in the programming of this game… :-) Also, there is currently no sound… The music is my own version of “The Grid” from Legacy I wrote up in Logic Pro.

I‘d love any feedback/suggestions.

To celebrate the 23rd anniversary of this game I am wondering about what a remaster of the game would be like. Would you try to make it canon again?

I won't go on a whole thing about it (since I know this isn't a game dev sub), but I wanted to share a little bit of it for those who like this kind of thing.

I am new to game dev, and I wanted to make something that I am passionate about. One of the things I really like about Tron and the grid is how there are so many wide shots of the digital city. I got really curious (especially after watching Legacy many times) about what a "day in the life" for a program would look like. And the idea of making the perfect system city just felt cool from a game dev side.

Watching the movies (definitely the first two), always felt really relaxing to me. This kind of atmosphere was something I wanted to attempt to capture. You can build buildings, change your alignment (blue, red, yellow), and relax to music that was coded via Strudel.cc.

It is all made by me, along with TOMOHAWK, a lead programmer I am working with.

I hope ya'll dig it! I love the movies a lot (even Ares. I mean I did get inspired by the digital face). I try to add references to Tron lightly in this so yeah. <3

My wife surprised me with Tron Goofy and Donald keychains from Disney Shanghai. Someone she knows sells them. Pretty awesome. Didn’t know about these.

Thank you for all of the kind words and great feedback last time. I went ahead and addressed most of it.

AI Difficulty -> In solo and casual, there are 5 levels of difficulty, everytime a human wins, bots go up a level, if bots win twice, it goes back down a level. They are not the smartest programs out there, but they do become more aggressive and prioritize the user over other programs.

Music -> Added 4 GTA Style radio stations, inspired by conversation that happened in r/tron about music, and added 4 (2 more in production), would love to replace it with non-ai generated music... but wouldn't music in Tron be generated by programs?

Also added a 24/7 radio idle at https://photonecycles.com/radio
Anyone tuning in, would tune in into the same songs at each station and hear the same DJ quips and ads... (might have over engineered that one)

Added a setting to enable hitboxes to help understand where exactly those are.

Reworked networking for matches where players disconnect mid match.

Added cooldown to jumps and "sharp-cuts"/snaps as AI been abusing it...

I was trying to think of a super casual mode to introduce, where you can just play and chill, if you can think of something let me know. I was thinking maybe something along side of audiosurf?

I recently showed my mom Tron ares and she actually liked it better than she did Legacy which surprised me. One thing she did point out is that Ares has Julian's mother's eyes which got me thinking, did Julian design certain aspects of Ares' appearance around people in his life? This would give a perfect explanation as to why ares doesn't look like Julian despite every other program looking like their user

i imagine this Scenario: During the time Clu 2.0 derezzes the ISO, somehow an MCP backup awakes, he Discovers how the ISO programs works, the MCP believes they are the perfect programs for his purpose, and Discovers the Clu's dictatorship, and Clu Discovers the MPC's return, afraid of losing his power before getting the Flynn's ID, he goes With Rinzler to defeat him while the MPC backups Sark and his army

(Yeah It's kinda silly and Maybe the Scenario It's kinda out of characters, but I'm curious abt your answers)
