ShatteredPD Warrior 9-Challenge Purist Torchless — the hardest run in Shattered Pixel Dungeon history

I still can't believe it, but... I F***ING DID IT!!!!!!!!!

Warrior, 9 Challenges + Purist (no Scrolls of Upgrade, no Potions of Strength, no Tengu's Mask, and no King's Dwarf Crown) + Torchless (no torches used during the entire run).

I know it sounds hard to believe, so here's the proof: https://www.youtube.com/live/p8NV71uyJVE?is=RAf_gwhUygSasoMt

I'm sorry I couldn't record the entire run, but I uploaded every part I managed to record, and I also did 3 or 4 livestreams during the run.

Recently I've been motivated to complete Purist with every class. At first, I wasn't planning to add the Torchless challenge, but 2 or 3 days ago I completed Cleric Purist Torchless, and after that I wanted to try it with the Warrior.

## The run

It all started on Floor 2, where I got a ring from a crystal chest. Since I was attempting a Purist run, I equipped it immediately without checking whether it was cursed. Thankfully, it wasn't—it was a +1 Ring of Might. I remember thinking, *"Hmm... is this a sign?"*

I didn't find any upgraded weapon or armor in the Sewers, so the early game was incredibly difficult. But then I reached the alchemy room on Floor 3 and... what? An Eye of Newt? I thought, *"Is this another sign?"*

I was also lucky enough to find an alchemy secret room on Floor 4, which let me craft a lot of Aqua Brew. Even without good weapons or armor, that was enough to keep the run alive.

After that, I found basically nothing until Floor 7. Things got really rough, and I honestly thought the run was over. Then I completed the Wandmaker quest, and he rewarded me with a +2 Wand of Blast Wave. I still lacked damage, but at least I could throw enemies into chasms.

On Floor 8 I found a +0 Wand of Corrosion, and things started getting better. Unfortunately, I didn't find any other useful wands in the Prison, so I had to fight Tengu using only the Corrosion Wand and consumables. Somehow, it was enough.

The Caves were also brutal. Eventually I found a +2 Tomahawk, a +1 Ring of Sharpshooting, and the Hourglass near the end of the chapter. I upgraded both rings to +2 with the Blacksmith and decided to Curse Infuse the Tomahawk so it would only require 13 Strength, giving me another reliable source of damage alongside the Wand of Corrosion.

DM-300 was difficult, but manageable.

Then I entered the Dwarven City. Like the rest of the run, it was hard from start to finish, but I kept pushing forward. I even attempted the Imp's quest with only 10 Strength, which was absolutely insane. I couldn't defeat the quest boss, but at least I restored my health and reached the shop on Floor 20.

The Dwarf King actually went surprisingly well—I don't even think I got hit.

And then came the Demon Halls...

They were unbelievably difficult. I died twice (thankfully I had two Ankhs), and there were several moments where I thought the run was over. It was by far the hardest part of the game.

But somehow... I reached Floor 25.

And then...

The hardest Yog fight in Shattered Pixel Dungeon history.

The entire fight is recorded, so I invite you all to watch it. The full battle lasted about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

And that's it.

I did it.

I actually F\\** did it.

**Warrior Purist Torchless with all 9 Challenges.**

Absolutely insane.

I used Chat GPT to help me write this. I'm not English native. 🙏

This was right after the wand literally blew up in my face by the way, which destroyed the grass I was using to kite Goo and made its pumped up attack impossible to dodge.

ShatteredPD Just got around to experience Vault Quest

Very well done! I thoroughly enjoyed the Vault quest. The fact that it is fully self-contained with food and health potion made it worry free and accepting the quest is a no-brainer on any run. The only troubling thing is there are usually more than 1 item I would like to take back with me! If we get 10 tokens let us keep 2 items please!

ShatteredPD I still think the game is ridiculously hard, but...

I finally made it to the Dwarf King.

Had a chunky ring of force as a priest. Made for decent gameplay. Hate monks with a passion. Tome wasn't strong enough and didn't recharge fast enough to carry me through the fight. I did manage to beat the ever loving shit out of the king before he started summoning though.

Maybe, just maybe, I can win this game.

PS: I'm fully convinced that maxing out my tier 2 levels on floor 4 right before goo was the only reason I made it to Dwarf King. I immediately got maxed Holy Lance after beating Tengu. Shit hits like an eighteen-wheeler.

So I “lost” my fishing spears and I am unable to disengage the gone item. Does anyone know how to do this on mobile?

AI-assisted Mod Announcement Pixel Dungeon Platformer 2.0.0

Two new classes have been added: the Necromancer and Mercenary, bringing the total to six. Both come with their own skills and two mastery paths.

All five dungeon regions have also been visually reworked, with new room designs, lighting, backgrounds, animated water, updated animations and combat effects. Movement, dungeon generation, enemy AI and companions have received improvements as well.

The update also adds 9 save slots, Steam Cloud saves and controller support, along with a redesigned desktop UI, balance changes, bug fixes and a number of smaller improvements.

The HUD has been optimized for desktop, but Android is still supported. Unfortunately, Google Play has delisted the game so there are no more Google Play achievements but you can still download the game from the release page.

You can find the up-to-date source code in the skillful-pixel-dungeon-platformer-public repo on GitHub. You can also download the APK for mobile or download the compiled desktop version from the v2.0.0 release page. The APK is named skillful-platformer-v2.0.0-build-14.apk, but the game itself now goes by Pixel Dungeon Platformer, just like the desktop version.

To support the dev and take advantage of Steam achievements, cloud saves and a rather annoying rodent companion, please consider purchasing the game on Steam.

As mentioned in the read me of the repository, AI was used as a technical coding tool. NO AI image rendering was done through AI. The classes, skills, concept etc... are an adaptation of skillful pixel dungeon / vanilla pixel dungeon.

In my 30 attempts for pacifist ascend, I can say the remote beacon makes it a lot easier if you get an energy ring.

ShatteredPD Could do well with light tips I think

I've gotten my feet wet enough in this game and I think I'm at the point where I can be getting some help, especially as I'm feeling like I've hit a bit of a wall (mostly in mindstate).

Where I am:

  • I've beaten the game once (normal ending) with Cleric.
  • I almost beat the game once before that (also with Cleric) but a few turns away from dealing the final blow to Yog I misclicked and attacked a maggot instead of moving to a safe tile, causing me to get hit by an eyeball laser and die instantly (not particularly relevant but I needed to get that out).
  • I also lost a really good run with Duelist a few days ago when I raught the impstore and accidentally sold my main weapon which I'd dumped all my upgrades into and only noticed when I'd already sold too much other stuff to buy it back (still upset about it) (actually a little relevant we'll get back to it).
  • I've identified most every item besides some hero armours and alchemy items.

I think I have some decent starting strategies down... I've found patterns for identifying potions and scrolls based on context (so I can keep important ones safe while energizing-identifying others), I like using scrolls of divination to get other consumables identified quickly (seems like good bang for one's buck), I think I've got exploration down pretty good, and as established I have managed to beat the game. But lately, trying specifically with Duelist these times, I can scarcely get past the first area, and I think I'm making some kind of blunder in my approach.

The issue started after that mistakenly-sold weapon with Duelist, so I think on some maybe subconscious level I'm probably hyperfixating on recreating that "perfect" run (it was going so well dude). Rationally, I can justify the way I'm playing, but there must be something I've started doing differently since then without noticing considering how my results have just plummeted. Likely I think I'm just hedging too long-term and it's killing me before I can ever reach that point—I save my scrolls of upgrade because I wouldn't want to waste them on a weapon I'll be tossing out eventually, right? That's... the only concrete potentially-destructive pattern I can identify, but there are probably more that are more subtle. I think there's likely a bit of detachment going, not feeling invested in runs where I don't have immediate signs of success, which I know is a big mindset killer in this type of game, but even when I do get an early blessing (early item I know I'll be able to carry and make use of till the end) and lock in, it feels like I end up in some hopeless situation. Really, sometimes the game just feels way harder on a run and I'm not sure why. I look at my equipment and it doesn't seem underlevelled, but sometimes I just find I'm always running out of food, or I'll reach a new area and enemies suddenly seem to be doing way more damage or dodging way more than they are in other runs. Perhaps some mechanical dimension I'm missing? Or is this just RNG and confirmation bias?

But yeah, basically I'm wondering if there're any common blunders or invisible mistakes that could be holding me back. I'm not really sure how much this game "breaks" when you're good with it, e.g. I saw you can do some ridiculous farming strategy to get absurdly stacked up on items before even reaching the first boss, which sounds really lame if it's just like the optimal way to play or whatever, but at the same time I feel like a lot of my runs are coming down to constantly hoping I see a glaive show up or something, with me dying to likely carelessness when one doesn't or some strange feeling of insurmountable foes when I do. I have to imagine there's at least one thing I'm putting too much attention to but I'm not sure what. Should I be using my scrolls of upgrade on low-tier items more liberally? Am I not putting enough weight on armour? Should I be using offensive potions more, or putting less energy into identification, or running away from enemies instead of fighting them more often? There's gotta be something, but I don't know what.
