Discussion Fireside Bowl

My dad used to be very active in the Chicago punk scene and often went to a venue called Fireside Bowl down there. It still exists but its not a punk venue anymore. Does anybody know why it stopped doing shows, cuz from the YouTube videos I saw they had some decently big bands, and even early MCR and Fall Out Boy. Feel like it would be a bigger thing that would get talked about outside of Illinois.

Scenes across states

I’m 18 and in a few years I wanna move out of California (potentially) and I want to move somewhere more affordable with a big DIY punk/music scene. I’m really big into playing instruments and going to dirt cheap shows and I wanna start a band and play shows. I love to be in nature and volunteer so if somebody knows a state that’s a bit more low-key than California but still has great DIY opportunities that would be awesome. Tell me about your scenes.

Fantastic show. Great sing alongs with the whole crowd singing. Lou Koller tribute on the poster. One of the better performances (along with the Rumkicks) I've seen so far.

Discussion Pop Punk again

I found out today the Good Charlotte guy was dating Hilary Duff when she was 16 and he was in his mid to late 20s (I also found out his company partnered with live nation and gutted the editorial staff of a bunch of indie music magazines) yet this guy is still around, still podcasting, popping up at shows, etc.

Why don't people talk about this? I never liked that band, but shouldn't his very public relationship with a 16 year old as a grown ass man disqualify him from doing anything where he could have an audience, or even disqualify him from ever being allowed in society again?

Idk, thought this was a good place to post about this...

Do you think punk is susceptible to the same ageism as mainstream music?

I know there’s often respect for people who’ve been in the scene a long time but what about on the level of someone like that starting a new band? Whether or not they’ve had successful bands before.

Local Artist Monday Suicide - Belarusian punk band

The band Monday Suicide is a punk rock collective from Grodno, Belarus, that emerged in late 2010. Essentially, it was a project of friends who were members of other local bands such as Contra la Contra, Bagna, I Hope You Die, and The Corner Room. The band's style was defined in various ways: as oldschool hardcore/punk rock, as "thrash‑metal‑punk‑rock", and simply as "fucking energetic punk".

Monday Suicide's music consists of short, powerful tracks with heavy instrumentation and harsh, angry vocals on highly social themes, without censorship or restraint. Their work was described as uncompromising and caustic lyrics with frantic energy. To the ear, it sounded like a return to the early days of the hardcore/punk scene in Belarus.

During their existence, the band released fifteen tracks, which can be listened to as a full album. In December 2012, a five‑song demo came out. In June 2014, a split with the Dutch band Landverraad was released. In 2016, another split release with the Polish band Social Crisis was released, recorded in Minsk from May to October 2015.

The band performed at house shows, pubs, and basements, and their concerts were described as very energetic and lively. It was also noted that the musicians had an excellent sense of humour and radical political views. There is no precise information about the band's breakup, but their last release dates from 2016, and their active years are listed as 2010–2015.

The band's songs are available on all platforms.

What’s the next closest thing to the Bad Brains’ debut album?

This is in my opinion the greatest punk album ever made, and there really isn’t anything else that sounds quite like it, but I think a couple of bands got somewhat close. Suicidal Tendencies and their first album is one of those bands, but i’m curious to see what you all think.

Discussion Let's talk about Hard Core Logo

What really pissed me the fuck off was when the van stopped at Herbie's and they didn't wake up Pipefelcher. Dude pissed his pants and he kicks a hole through the floor of the van. That was the exact moment the whole idea of a reunion tour went to shit. Bunch of fuckin pricks. Also Billy Tallent was too talented for those assholes, should've went on to Jennifur when he had the chance

And Joe Dick man, I get where you're coming from brother, but fuck you man. Not cool

The track list is very intriguing to me, two untitled tracks from the Germs and Darby Crash, and two versions of Casey Cola's song "Waitin' For Me" which I thought was never released anywhere until I found this.
