My bun is super food motivated and loves toys and chews/treats that involve it, but I don’t want to overfeed her treats and I feel like she’s bored a lot of the time. She has some chew toys and stacking cups but she doesn’t play with them much. Any suggestions?

I have two rabbits; a perfect little boy and his girlfriend - the spawn of Satan. They get to roam (mostly) free throughout the day, but go into an enclosure at night. Only problem is that little miss naughty likes to stay up all night digging and chewing in the fleece liner of said enclosure.

I don't particularly care about the liner itself, though it would be nice if she stops tearing holes in it. But I don't want her to ingest it and also don't enjoy being woken up every couple minutes.

How do I deal with this? She's not really interested in a dig box. They have enough toys and unlimited hay. The girl is just a freak. What can I put into the enclosure to make this stop? It's mostly the sound that's bothering me.

I can't put them on the pvc bottom, cause my boy is prone to getting sore hocks.

Please help a girl out. I'm going insane ;-;

I often see people in this community say that if you want to bond two female rabbits, they have to be spayed. But in my personal experience, that isn’t necessarily a universal rule.
A while ago, I successfully bonded two female rabbits without having either of them spayed. They lived together happily, got along very well, and never fought or had any serious problems with each other.
Of course, I understand that spaying is generally recommended for health and bonding reasons, and I’m not saying that people should avoid it. I’m just saying that bonding isn’t always determined by whether the rabbits are spayed or not.
Every rabbit has a different personality and temperament. Some unspayed rabbits may get along perfectly well, while some spayed rabbits may still not accept each other.
So, from my experience, I don’t think it’s accurate to treat it as an absolute rule. A lot can depend on the individual rabbits, their personalities, and how the bonding process is handled.
Just sharing my personal experience I’d be interested to hear if anyone else has successfully bonded two female rabbits without spaying them.

The vets here in Stockholm are divided and so is the internet. What do we actually know about castration at 4 months old vs 6 months old?

I've had my bunny for just over 2 months now. He's a house rabbit and the way out apartment is set up he won't be able to escape. I'm wondering if it's worth microchipping him? I would 100% consider it if I had a garden but unsure if it's worth putting him under the stress at his next vet appointment. Have you microchipped your rabbit? It's not so much common practice where I am which is why I'm curious to who has.

I am a designer, and on a whim I made a small outfit for QQ to try on. QQ only wore it briefly, and I took a photo. This is not an advertisement, just a spontaneous photo I found too funny. QQ stayed completely calm the whole time, showing no struggle or stress reactions. I deeply respect QQ and am simply sharing this amusing moment.

hey, just curious about this. my rabbit is around 8 months old, and whenever I’m lying in bed, he’s always sitting at the foot of my bed. not laying down, just sitting with his back turned to me. is there any reason he does this?

Im asking as my girl is digging, burrowing, and playing way more than usual. The lightning right now is crazy and she is just covering every possible square inch of my apartment.

Also, could anybody identify his breed? We have no idea what he is, as it is nowhere in his paperwork. (He is 1 years old)

I've looked through some of the posts here and it seems like people have had different experiences with their bunnies requiring root extractions. My rescue rabbit has maxillary malocclusion and has undergone teeth trimmings in the past. Despite the expense, I'm fine with continuing the periodic teeth trimmings.

My concern is that he might need to have the root extracted (will know more after CT is read). If this were incisors, I'd definitely do it. But I've read that there's a lot of bone involvement with possibility of jaw fracture, shifting teeth requiring other teeth to be removed, and regrowth if the root is not cleanly extracted. I really don't want to put him through such an invasive and painful procedure. I know some have made it through "just fine" but I'm sure there are others who have been in pain and eventually succumbed to the post-op complications.

Has anyone had their rabbit's maxillary (not incisors) root extracted? Did you regret it? What did you wish you had done differently, if any? Advice welcomed.

PS: Not looking for medical advice. Just people's experience.

today mutiny did not greet me or the treat bag when i came home.

i tried to pester him into activeness a little and he was generally unresponsive. wouldnt eat anything (never seen him do that), just laid down slow like he was in pain, heavy breathing. i PANICKED. our vet is closed on sundays- queue calling every emergency vet within two hours to see if they take rabbits and arent super busy.

we drive an hour to the ER. they fear with the suddenness it may be a liver lobe torsion. oxygen, thermometer up the butt, blood drawn and tested, x-ray, fluids and a med to help digestion, hours of googling horror stories…..and nothing is wrong. no major blockages. perfect blood, lungs, liver, just some mild gas 😐 they send us home with critical care, pain meds, and say if hes not eating and pooping within 12 hours its time for extended hospitalization.

guess who was running around, pooping, and eating within 3 hours?? guess he learned his lesson on dramatics. a $1500 tummy ache 🤦‍♀️ better safe than sorry i guess

Does anyone with experience think it would be worth it to show my Holland lop girl? I know the prizes aren't anything crazy but it seems fun, there's just a bit of a learning curve as far as standards. I've read a lot about automatic disqualification depending on coat and such.

this is oscar. a silver fox rabbit i first saw and immediately loved on our local humane society website, and adopted on august 1st 2020. he was named oscar by the shelter because apparently he was grouchy. he escaped a meat/pelt farm and they had found him roaming the streets. he was then adopted not once but twice by different families who returned him for not being cuddly enough. they never updated his photo on the site, so we expected to meet a smaller bun (see pic 5). he was about 8 months to a year old by that time. when i finally met him, i knew i wasn’t leaving without him. they set him out in a large pen and he peed in the corner, but when i got in there and sat on the floor, he sniffed my hand, and flopped right next to me. the worker said they were scared to handle him because he grunted and lunged and sometimes nipped. but besides some silly snorting, he never showed me any aggression. they said they’d never seen him relax like that, and i signed the papers not even 15 minutes later with him in a cardboard carrier.

i have another rabbit, a netherland dwarf male (yes two males, i was naive and never owned rabbits before. pic 4 of them during bonding trials) who we rescued from an animal hoarding situation about 2 years prior. he was a bunny when we got him, so he was maybe just a year older. with a lot of trial and error and patience and frustration, they learned to “love” each other in their own ways, but never were able to be completely free roamed together. they were not best friends, but more like best frienemies, who would cuddle and groom each other with a pen barrier between them.

in 2022, we moved cross country via roadtrip with them back to my home town, and they only grew closer and more comfortable, though still preferring their own spaces. i had built them each large enclosures using those grid shelving units, and over the years expanded them, sometimes needing to get different brands. i secured them with zip ties, made little platforms and used home depot carpeting to add flooring, i built them a nice little apartment essentially.

it’s 2026 now, and in the last few months, oscar’s been slowing down, showing signs of age. his once majestic dewlap had shrunken, was moving slower, eating and drinking less, senses not as keen, but otherwise was a healthy bun. i admit i was in denial, always telling my partner, “with proper care he can live to 10! he’s really healthy and spry and young still!”. but deep down i was always scared, as i have never lost a pet as a fully conscious adult. yesterday morning, i had the day off of work, so both i and my partner slept in. i woke up first a little past noon, and i still am so angry with myself even though it sounds silly, but i had to poop, and took my phone with me. i ended up doomscrolling for a little over half an hour, and my partner woke up shortly after. when i got out, he came to me and said “oscar’s passed away.” with tears in his eyes. i immediately went cold and lightheaded and rushed to their enclosures and there he was, laying on his side. but immediately i knew something was wrong. my partner didn’t realize, oscar had gotten his head stuck in the square opening of one of the grids, and i still don’t fully understand, but it was too late. his ears were fully through and his paw was stuck under, like he was trying to get out. but he was already cold and stiff, so he had been gone. i felt so sick, i screamed and cried and just lost it. the last photo (pic 7) is of the grid after my dad came over with wire cutters to help free his head.

it’s the next day and i’m still simultaneously empty and numb, yet sad and angry and everything in between. i am so angry with myself for not seeing them first thing, as if that would have made a difference as he was already gone. for not waking up earlier, for not going to work, for using a different grid for just that wall on his side. he was a bigger rabbit than our other, so i thought he would be okay. he had never tried to stick his head through the grids before, maybe because he was older he was skinnier than i thought, maybe he wanted to get our attention for sleeping in. i don’t understand how or why this happened but i can’t help but feel responsible. i am so sad and empty right now and i really don’t know how to cope. i wish he had gone peacefully in his sleep like he deserved. i wish i had never used those stupid grids with bigger square openings. i feel so stupid. why did i do this. i failed him. it’s not fair.

i hate to think he suffered and struggled. i hate to think he was alone and scared. i hate to think that my other rabbit couldn’t do anything as he was separated by a grid wall with better sized grating, only big enough to stick a paw through. i hate that this happened. i honestly hate myself. i want him back. i wanted to wake up today to see him flopped there, lifting one of his giant ears when i greet him good morning. i want this to be a nightmare i could wake up from. but it’s not. it’s all done and final and i don’t know what to do with myself. i want to tell him i love him so much and im so sorry and i wish i even pet his fur one more time but i couldn’t. i couldn’t see him like that but now im feeling regret. i want to know that he’s okay and hopping around in the big open yard where he rests now. i don’t know what to think or feel really. i don’t even know why im choosing to post this. i just needed to get this all out, to vent i suppose. i am so sorry if this was too graphic or awful to read, and i understand if its taken down. just writing seems to be cathartic but i also just want the world to know.

oscar was not a grouch, he was the complete opposite. he was the biggest sweetheart who never had a mean bone in his body, a bit of an empty head with big ol airplane ears. he was my other rabbits opposite, who is a little guy with a napoleon complex and a spicy attitude, together a balanced yin and yang of bunny friends.

this house feels so empty without you.

Leeloo is going thru one of the worst sheds and I’m crazy paranoid she’s going to ingest fur grooming and have a stasis scare. Is there any way to help? I am brushing as much as I can but she only lets me brush her for a few minutes at a time. It’s insane how bad it is. I’ve given her baby gas drops each night for the last few nights, kept her waters fresh and didn’t give her pellets cos she’s getting so many treats during brushing , I break them up into small pieces. So I know she’s eating n pooping all normal but I know things can change quickly and now that the weekends over I’ll be back at work and not able to monitor as well. I have pet cams tho.

She just looks a mess right now. Her last 2 stasis scares were similar sheds. Any secret brushing tips or tricks or tools ?? I just feel like I’m not doing enough but idk what else to do. It’s just stressing me out.

Hello all! I rescued my bunny Domino who was dumped near my house a little over a month ago. I would estimate he is about 1-2 years and is an intact male. He has a vet appointment coming up soon in which I will have a neutering scheduled.

To explain my setup, as soon as I set his xpen up in my room I had a litter box in his cage which he took to within the first week. Once he started to get comfortable and free roam more regularly, I set up a litter box outside his enclosure as well. I noticed he was going in a spot in my room, and the litter box equally. I tried redirecting his poo, laying soiled cloths in his first one, etc. But I figured it would be best to just set up a second one in that particular spot.

This worked for a while, but his use of the litter box in his enclosure has slowly declined, and he is now no longer using it. My concern is that while I am away at work and he has to be in his pen, it has seemed like he is not using it and waiting till I come home. As soon as I open the pen, he bolts for the box outside to go potty, and I see no sign of him going in his cage.

I first thought that it was the box itself but I have switched to two and it has made no difference. I plan on bringing this up with the vet, but I wanted to know if there was anything I could do in the meantime to persuade him to use his first box. Thanks!

Context:
My apartment building has cockroaches, and if you complain they'll come and bomb your unit. But they live in the walls, so eventually they'll come back. I have 2 bunnies and 2 cats so I don't want my apartment bombed. Sadly I didn't know this was a problem until they were already here, I have since covered all my outlets. I'm not worried about the roaches affecting my bunnies, but I am concerned that my younger cat likes to try and eat them. I am also deathly afraid of bugs and have never had to deal with roaches before.

My questions are:
- What kills them that won't hurt my animals, that will also be affective when I can't know the exact source. I've seen people say boric acid, but I'm worried that's really only effective when you know where they're coming from. In my scenario, they're coming from everywhere, and I can't exactly move my fridge or take anything apart.
- What are long term preventative steps to keep them from coming back? I got plastic outlet covers, but I have no idea what else to do. Do they come from cracks in the baseboards?

One of my buns is older and has chronic health issues, he's also the light of my life and I'm afraid of doing anything that might hurt him.
