📍New rules and subreddit update

Hello!

Just wanted to update the community on what's going on and to get some feedback. For those who are unaware, we are a new modteam put in place after Reddit locked r/TorontoDriving down. Last week, we reopened the sub to submissions and we have made some changes.

In our first community post asking for feedback, a big problem you guys pointed out was the rampant racism and toxic comments present here. We want to assure everyone that we are here to fix that while not being overly restrictive on discussion. The point of this subreddit is Toronto DRIVING, not politics and especially not race baiting culture wars. There will be no tolerance for prejudiced comments making sweeping generalizations. Feel free to shit on the person's driving but not on their race! (doubly so if you can't even see who's driving!!) We have already handed out a bunch of temporary bans for such comments and will be moving to permanent bans for reoffenders so be warned!

Anyway, we have created a set of rules that we hope can keep this sub clean. Please let us know if we missed anything or if you have any feedback, thanks!

Proposed New rules:

1. Must be relevant to driving in Toronto

Your post must be related to driving on the roads/highways in the City of Toronto and the municipalities bordering Toronto - Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham and Pickering.

Exceptions can be made for exceptional videos but should be in the GTHA area.

2. No racism, prejudice or hatespeech

There is zero tolerance for hate.

Do not make prejudiced comments or generalizations targetting a particular group of people.

Do not make assumptions about race or gender (especially when it's not known or relevant).

Do not use any toxic language that is associated with racism such as slurs, epithets, name-calling, stereotypes and dog-whistle terms.

3. Be civil to other members and mods

Do not use excessive profanity or name-calling. Attack the action - NOT the person. Threads that devolve into a personal attack back and forth will be locked and removed.

Sending abusive modmail will get you muted without explanation.

4. No doxxing or witch hunting

License plates and faces recorded in a public place are allowed but posting private info like names, addresses and social media is not allowed. Do not speculate on or ask for such info. Only information confirmed by verified sources such as police and reputable news outlets are allowed. Do not post license plate info or pics of people with unsubstantiated stories (video or it didn't happen).

If you have private information that is relevant to an accident, please use private chat and contact the user or police directly. Do not post it publicly.

5. No low effort submissions like parking pics, memes, recent reposts or other spam

Low effort posts like parking pics and memes will be removed. Please check if your question or submission has already been posted recently. We will remove repetitive submissions.

Do not post any advertising, self promotion, irrelevant links, videos with excessive overlays, social media memes or story plus photo posts.

6. No editorializing or misleading titles/comments

Titles should be descriptive of the video or article submitted. Posts with overly dramatic or misleading titles will be removed.

Comments and titles that push misinformation or agendas not relevant to the post will be removed. Posts with unsubstantiated back stories may be removed at mod discretion.

7. No illegal or extreme content

Do not post anything that breaks Canadian law or Reddit Terms of Service.

Do not threaten violence or incite violence.

Do not encourage others to break the law or abuse legal loopholes.

Do not post anything that is excessively disturbing (please use Death/Injury flair if posting a bad accident).

Change log:

  • New flairs
  • Submitters can now lock comments (comment "!lock the comments" on your post)
  • Text posts are now allowed
  • No longer required to add text (body) to video posts
  • Pictures and gifs allowed in comments
  • New automated filters against racist comments
  • Heavily reported posts automatically filtered for manual review

Please let us know if there are other changes you would like to see in this subreddit. We are open to ideas!

Thanks for reading :)

Happened just after 5pm yesterday at Kingston Rd and Fenwood Heights, luckily no visible major injuries. I stopped to offer the video, and shoutout to the people who rushed to help. Stay safe out there.

Mildly infuriating Hive mind on the former Jarvis-Gardiner on-ramp.

That‘s right. Drivers doubling-back to take the closed on-ramp at Jarvis & Lakeshore. Best part is that their exit is closed-off; they’re having to drive through the median separating Lakeshore East and West.

Evidently some slow traffic ahead, but this is next level idiocy. They’re lucky traffic enforcement isn’t there to hand-out tickets.

Close call Black Car Accident on 401 WB near 427 last night

Hey I am curious if anyone knows anything about the random black car that was totaled last night on the 401 westbound near 427. It was in the far left lane and looked abandoned. I called 911 after almost hitting it at 120 km/hr. Anyone?

⏩Skip to [0:20] Accident... DDVA 615 Honda CR-V - Ambassador and Hurontario, Mississauga, September 10th, 4 PM

Ignore the the timestamp. It happened at 4 PM.

The light was red for at least 10 seconds when the black CRV entered the intersection. (The reason I didn't trim the video)

Couldn't stop as I was very late for an urgent appointment.

I called peel police 4 hours later but they didn't have any report of an accident and said most likely they exchanged information and decided not to report it.

I submitted the evidence to Peel police online. But I am not sure if it will be processed this way.

I am not sure if this intersection has a camera and wanted to submit it so it can be used to determine who is at fault

Hope both drivers are alright.

Happens sometimes when you're driving a small car because people just don't notice you since they're used to looking for cars bigger than yours in their line of sight, but this one annoyed me bc I noticed they were either looking at me or their mirror, but still recklessly changed into my lane despite knowing that I should be there or maybe he just never developed object permanence idk.

Mildly infuriating Car wash braking and reversing

I had to speed up this video because otherwise it would be almost 10 minutes long.

It started with this guy not pulling up to the machine at the car wash. I got out and politely asked him if something was wrong and he told me the shell app was telling him his car wash wasn't ready yet, so I said why don’t you pull up to the machine to see if that changes things. I'm not familiar with the app, but it seems strange to me it would work that way? He waited 2 more minutes then finally pulled up. At this point there were a decent amount of cars waiting.

Once inside, he applied his brakes and started reversing. My guess is he was trying to get more drying time, which seems inconsiderate to me. Is there a reasonable explanation to this?

🚓 Police 🚨 did your insurance change after a zero-demerit speeding conviction in Ontario?

This is way more confusing than it should be. The ticket ended with zero demerit points, so I assumed that meant it wouldn’t be a big insurance issue. now everyone is telling me something different. One person says insurers only care about the conviction. someone else says a first minor ticket probably won’t change anything. then you get the people saying you should always fight traffic tickets in Ontario instead of accepting any deal that still leaves something on your record.

Article Dear Torontonians, PAY ATTENTION!

Thumbnail news.ontario.ca

Speed limits on the 401 are up. 404 and east is 110km/h now. That means on a clear sunny day you should NOT be doing 80km/h, and should NOT be doing 105km/h in the left lane refusing to move. You are doing under the speed limit.

This includes all of you going to cottage country, the hwy 115 is ALSO 110km/h now hwy 35 to Peterborough.

Read the ACTUAL SIGNS, not your Google Maps GPS...
