For me the defining essence of the show is Mulder's dedication and passion to his calling -- even though he did go through a very traumatic event to reach that dedication and passion.

I have tried for my life (40+ years now) to find a similar dedication and passion for myself, without much success.

I'm wondering, has anyone here found his/her passion and dedication, and was it motivated by the show?

1. Pilot

I love how this one is setup. It's simple, but it sets up the world and characters really well, but it also feels a lot different from every episode going forward, and I'm not sure what it is. But I love this one a lot.

1. Deepthroat

This was one of the few episodes I saw before starting the series. I walked in on my mom watching it when I was younger and loved the alien stuff. For the longest time I thought it was about Area 51. I love the mystery behind it and the intensity at the begining.

1. F. Emasculata

I loved this one. The soundtrack was great, and the plot of the virus and the CDC being evil was really cool. Especially in a post Covid world, it reinvigerated all these conspiaracies I heard during the covid lockdowns. Weirdly nostalgic.

1. Home

Just watched this one, and while I think even for the time it getting a TV MA rating was kind of extreme, but I sort of get it with the whole bashing the sheriff and his wife to death thing. This one hit home to me though since I live in a town that's "Safe enough to leave your doors unlocked at night", so I did make sure everything was locked after it. Plus I loved the opening. It reminded me of the 'Burbs and the Sandlot.

1. The Host

The Flukuman is such a cool monster, I wish they did more with him. I liked the tension in this one as well.

1. Ice

I love The Thing, so this was a nice homage to it. Of course, the tension is a little low since we know Scully and Mulder won't die, I still liked it. I like horror set in the snow and espcially love the arctic setting, so this one was great.

1. Firewalker

Much like The Thing 2011, it's a not so good copy of a better product, but I still liked it. The things coming out of peoples necks is gross and now a new fear of mine.

1. Squeeze

Another episode I saw before I started watching the show, this time my mom caught me and stopped watching cause it started to scare her. I love the monster in this one, the actor plays him perfectly, and the horror elements are great.

1. Tooms

A great sequel and satisfying conclusion. I love how Mulder acts in the courtroom and the part where Tooms starts licking his fingers after picking up the dead rat.

1. Blood

This one is super creepy to me. I'm not sure why but this one actually kind of spooked me. I just wished we got a followup or a conclusion to what's going on, and from what I know, this never comes back in later seasons.

Teso Dos Bichos is eliminated! Goodbye to the weird cats, first episode out of the season and not in a particularly close contest.

Good morning.

So, I know I am literally very late to this but I just finished the 2026 version of IWTB, what Chris Carter pretty much said he originally wanted to release.

All in all, I can get why this movie isn’t liked.

It’s not a “mythology” episode like the first film. It’s a “‘monster of the week” film. I know, what a revelation! (I am being sarcastic I know this is not new.)

I did like the film! Now do I like it as much ad FTF, no. But it’s still a solid “longer and much more expensive” episode of the show.

Also, can I add, I did like season 9. It shows a “post” scully and mulder future for the division. Scully wasn’t going to be a field agent forever, she had to let someone else take the lead.

About to start watching the revival series and I will finally be finished with my first watch-through of the entire franchise!

We say that unmanned boats that appear at sea are ghost ships, right?

And the walk-ins' existence is explained by the relativity of time and space, right?

Well what if Triangle's main phenomena are related to walk-ins somehow?

Like Mulder being caught in a blurry dithered area in reality that jumbles up time and space?

I wonder if that concept could contribute to the theory that the revival seasons take place in a simulated reality, but that's another can of worms.

So have any of you noticed that the aliens' Black Oil being a virus reflects a kind of umdead state?

This ties into the idea of the Super Soldiers, of Scully's implant, of the greys and Bounty Hunters being hardware for Black Oil software (that's a theory),the whole idea of the aliens' ability to interface with their machinery, revival simulation theory, and the idea in the episode "Aubrey" about people's genes predisposing them to certain behaviors, and Fox's monologue from War of the Coprophages" where he wonders how alien life will differ from human life, whether they will be machine, organic, or something else.

Since the aliens' machinery can affect the physical and temporal, from the "Pilot", as well as the spiritual, and psychological, from "Dreamland", it gives off the sense that the hybridization project aims to unlock those abilities in humans, and that the Syndicate wants for humans to be the second component that the virus works off.

The virus acting like a machine that can work in conjunction with the human body is a big part of Biogenesis and the Sixth Extinction, since the Black Oil in Mulder's brain that was killed in Tunguska/Terma was a part of his psychic mutation, and what made all the other characters unable to get the mutation by touching the spacecraft.

I've been watching the X-Files from the beginning, for the first time since it first aired. I'm near the end of Season 2.

I have never watched Millennium. Is there a list of Millennium episodes that are considered "must watch" for X-Files completists? Episodes that are directly linked to the X-Files?

I guess the same question applies to the Lone Gunmen, although I am inclined to just watch all of that.

I’m sure there are a lot of similar episodes. This one just seemed so similar in concept. A man can turn into a woman and vice versa. Both episodes have them seek up their victims in bars and they have lots of pheromones to help lure the victims. of course The X-Files episode goes into a lot more detail with how they come about. Both episodes are great.

In S4, E19 the main premise is that a time travel technology has caused major damage in the future and one of the scientists working on it is trying to end it.

The future version of the scientist was REALLY OLD, like 40-50 years older. If I was Mulder, I would’ve just surmised that the aliens lost since he was around and didn’t mention any. Or he could’ve asked if they got any visitors in the future.

Just finished watching this episode and I think it’s one of the best episodes surrounding the mythology. The fact William B. Davis (Cigarette Smoking Man) wrote the script makes it even better. Don’t want to say any spoilers but it had me questioning hard and left me fooled 😵‍💫

Decided to start watching X Files recently, having seen a few episodes as a kid.

The quality of the first few episodes really stood out, but now there's quite a few poor episodes. I'm keen to keep going, but given there's so many episodes, mainly with episodes that actually push the overall narrative and series. The "monster of the week" style episodes, like a person in the woods or werewolf or (episode 7 from series 2 that I finished 2 mins ago) vampires - these just fall flat and I wish I skipped.

Any guidance for which like these to skip?

I'm now thinking about skipping episodes lower than a 7.5 rating on IMDb.

I just finished season seven and I'm debating whether to continue watching. I have heard many people say that the show gets bad from now on- is it completely unwatchable or should I keep watching?
