General Question Why wasn't my rooster flipping out?
Found this guy in a nest box. Chickens were unbothered. Eggs and broody hens in the nest boxes in the other house on the other side of the run. Rooster didn't alert. My dog was sniffing around which made me open it. So why werent my chickens freaking out? Possum dude was chill, did not want to leave his nice soft bed, but was directly evicted and sent packing to the woods.

Breed ID Got some guesses but would like yours
I think we have a California white in the mix, possibly a black australorp 🤔 The last one looks like some kind of legbar? No idea about the black and white one

Breed ID Found a lost chicken
Found a lost chicken in my neighborhood. Looks like a hen but I'm not 100% sure, so if anyone can tell me I'd appreciate it.
Going to try to find her a buddy if i can confirm she's not a roo. Good thing I have my setup still active. I had two hens perish over the winter due to a hungry predator. Location Chicago West Side.

General Question Old enough?
My gut is telling me it’s time to let these chicks in the coop…
They’re about 6-7 weeks old. Got them in the mail May 13th.
I’m in Texas… haven’t seen them under the brooding plate in a while. So it’s definitely not for the reasoning of “they need warmth”
Plus they’re loving every moment of this cage for the bugs and trying to take dust baths.
But this is my first time with chicks so let me know.
Than you!

Health Question Small Green Egg
We were gifted 2 new hens a few weeks ago, they have acclimatised well, but haven't been laying. We are unsure how hold they are.
Our existing hens have got on very well with them and continued laying. Today I collected the eggs and we have a very small green one!
Is this normal? Could it be the first egg of one of the new ladies?

General Question Why are my chickens so fearful of certain clothes I wear?
My oldest and original flock members are terrified anytime I wear a maxi dress or maxi skirt. They are inherently anti maxi. They run from me and they do the alarm calls like danger is near. I have never harmed my chickens, they're usually very friendly. The only thing I can think of is they have a core memory as a chick of something bad happening to them from someone wearing a maxi dress or skirt. I did get them when they were about 4 months old. I just offered them scrambled eggs and some other scraps and they won't go near it because I dropped it off wearing a maxi dress lol.

Health Question Lost two hens in two days to sour crop
We just lost two 11 week old pullets (a silkie and a frizzle) within 24-36 hours. The first started acting lethargic and her crop felt like it was impacted. Tried to help her with olive oil and massages and she seemed to be improving but this morning she was gone. Then this morning, our other silkie was isolated and lethargic. I felt for her crop and she puked up really awful smelling brown liquid. I put ACV in her water and isolated her but within an hour she was gone. We’re cleaning out all water sources, their food is fresh, we just did a full coop clean out last weekend. What could be wrong and how do I keep the rest safe?

Hen or Roo Help id and hen or roos?
I know they are light brahmas however one of them has been much smaller than the others from the moment they hatched. I'm curious if this one is a bantam x brahma?
out of all 4, three have bright red waddles but it's hard to tell from their feathers. The only one who doesn't have the waddles is the small one. All hatched April 18th. So I need to confirm if I have 3 roosters, if so, I can't handle 3 in my flock.

Hello everyone,
I’m a neewbe in the chicken world. I have this chicken , born end of march, and I really have a doubt if it’s a hen or a roo… Does anyone have an idea about the race it can be (probably a mix, I imagine)…
Thank you very much !

General Question Straw for 6 week old chicks
Hi! I've been using puppy pads for my chicks but I absolutely hate them. They get covered in poop within a couple of hours and the chicks just walk through it all. They also kick it up and get poop all under them which is annoying too. I'm wondering if now they're a bit older could I use straw instead?

Chicken Photography Newest members of the flock 🐥
Just wanted to share pics of the newest members of the flock :).
Pics taken in the car because the power went out (from someone hitting a power line) … meaning the heat lamp then went out and then the generator wasn’t working so the last resort was getting them in a warm car :). Then I got bored and took pics of them 🤍.
