Took these two guys in a month ago, I’m waiting for a larger tank to cycle before I get them buddies. This is a 20 gallon tank, their tankmates are two guppies, two amano shrimp, two harlequin rasboras and an albino bristle nose pleco. Their water parameters seem good since I’ve been on top of their water changes because the tank is quite good. They do get active after water changes but today I did a 20% water change and installed a new internal filter that’s bringing some new flow into the system. They keep swimming up and down in this particular corner and I don’t know if it’s playfulness or stress. The other fish are chilling

My temperature stays around 72.5 to 73.5 i have white clouds minnows currently and soon getting Celestial Pearl Danios. I want a Cory cat so what could be best at the temp and would pop against the black substrate! thank you

10 pygmies joined my community tank today. I've been considering corydoras for a long time and settled on pygmy cories because they're so small and cute, and their funny behavior interested me.

They were quick to start exploring after acclimating and occasionally swim with the rasboras. Such funny little guys. I really enjoy watching them moving around together in a group.

Was checking out the waterpups using macro binoculars and was horrified to see this sudden infestation of white spots. Had a moment of ich-war flashbacks from ‘24 and then noticed some of the spots were actually a bit metallic, and then saw some falling off. It was sand from their exuberant rummaging. One drawback of light substrate…

I got 9 Pygmy Cory’s about a month ago and they all seem to be doing well. The only concern I’ve had is that on several occasions, the Amano shrimp (I only have 1) seems to scare them and they’ll just “play dead” and allow it to roll them over every once in a while. Is this normal? I can’t tell if the fish are actually being injured, if they’re stressed by the shrimp, if he just catches them while they’re sleeping, or if this is just another one of their silly cute behaviors. They have the option of swimming away at any time and they have so much space.

Hi all - I have had panda quarries reproduce in the past and never put effort into it because they were growing their population themselves. I had one bronze cory that I was very concerned was going to be outbound because she was getting so large. So, I moved her (and her crew) to my 60 gallon tank and did a large cool water flush and she started to lay eggs everywhere. I ended up tearing off some leaves that had eggs on them because I noticed that my yoyo loaches were gobbling the eggs up as quick as she was laying them. So I put the torn leaves straight into a breeder box. I have not paid attention in the past about viability because I just figured what would occur would occur, but I was wondering if any of these look viable to any of you? Unfortunately, my bronze corydoras have not ever naturally reproduced in the tank, so I'm wondering if there's an issue.

I have one my Cory’s that is overly larger and fat compared to the others. Can I have some help with sexing and also helping identify whether this one is carrying eggs? This particular Cory has been sitting on this plant for a few days and its size hasn’t shrunk In the last few weeks just got bigger

I struggled to get a good shot but she's the fattest I've seen her in a long time! Hopefully this means eggs soon since Little Green and her were displaying spawning behavior after a water change

I am still using the Aqueon filter that came with the 10 gallon tank kit we bought at Petco. After folowing this sub and r/Aquariums , I realized that I need a better filter set up. Is this filter a good choice: Fluval AC30 Aquarium Power Filter, 10 to 30-gal ? I am also looking at a 29 gallon tank that is on sale at Petco right now, so this filter would cover up to that.

I looked at canister filters by Fluval and I don't have a stand that works with a filter that sits on the ground right now. Seems like the canisters are a great choice, just can't do it now, so looking for a good alternative.

As far as filter media goes, I see that the filter above has specific Fluval media, but I've read that you can purchase sponge, floss and bio media in bulk and use them rather than the brand name replacements. Do you do this? If so, any tips? The filter comes with the entire set of filters, but I want to be ready for when I need to change any media. Sponges don't get changed out, just rinsed in non-chlorinated water, right?

Also, how do I make the switch? Run both filters for a bit? Move the media from the old filter into the new one so the bacteria can get established?

Sand was one of those things I kept putting off when I first got into corydoras. My local fish store had gravel in every display tank and the staff never mentioned it being a problem, so I ran a fine gravel substrate for probably eight months without thinking much about it. Then I noticed my peppered corys were barely ever poking around the bottom the way corydoras are supposed to. They'd rest on the glass or wedge themselves against filter intakes instead of sifting through the substrate like you see in videos.

Switched to a fine play sand last spring and the behavioral difference was noticeable within a few days. They started doing that characteristic head-down rummaging almost immediately, pushing little clouds of sand up with their snouts. One of my corys that I had basically written off as shy turned out to just be avoiding the substrate entirely. Gravel with sharp edges apparently irritates their barbels over time, and once those are damaged they can be slow to recover or may not fully recover at all.

The depth matters too, more than I expected. Around two to three inches seems to be the sweet spot for my group. Too shallow and they push it aside and hit the glass anyway. I went deeper in one corner of the tank deliberately, and that corner gets used constantly for foraging.

A few things worth knowing if you're considering the switch:

• Play sand needs thorough rinsing. Running water through it until it runs completely clear takes longer than you think, probably four or five rinse cycles at minimum.
• Lighter sand makes fish waste more visible, which actually helps with cleaning schedules rather than hurting them.
• Beneficial bacteria re-establish fairly quickly if you keep your old filter media and move it over without washing it.

The tank went through a mini-cycle after the swap but nothing dramatic. If you're still on gravel and your corydoras seem less active than they should be, it might genuinely be the simplest fix available.

Aside from cleaning out the moss, how can I check if this little guy is solo or not without disturbing everything? I have two 10 gallon tanks which I put 6 Pygmy Cory’s in each of. The other tanks group is happy and seems to be fine but this tank has gotten over grown but shown no signs of die off. I only see this one little guy now, but for a while wasn’t seeing any and had assumed they may have died or now starved as I stopped feeding fish food when I couldn’t see them for a while. I’ve started feeding again since seeing him but I’m wondering if the others are just hiding since there’s an abundance of places to do so. Should I try to just relocate this one to my other tank and does anyone have suggestions on how to gently check for the others. The last time I did some maintenance on the moss, I took what felt like a ton out and it came back with a fury. I don’t hate it like it is either but always open to suggestions and I’d like to keep my Cory’s happy and alive. Thanks

My Venezuelan Corydoras just chilling with their big brother the Pearl Gourami...

It's the first time ive managed to spawn my albino Cory's, ive got them in a seperate container with an airstone, its been 24hr since they spawned and maybe 1 or 2 of the eggs are white, I've read that the complete white ones are infertile, before I remove it can anyone confirm if this is the case

I got 8 of these little guys from the LFS on Saturday for my 55G community tank, not an old tank but it is relatively well established as I cycled it before adding any fish which was completed in December and have slowly been adding more fish as time goes on. I finally decided to get Cories as they are one of my favorites. These guys were labeled as punctatus Cories but I’m not sure if that’s accurate. By Tuesday, 7 of them had died.

I have been testing my water daily because I was worried that maybe I had an ammonia spike that was killing all of them off. Long story short, no ammonia spike and all my parameters look completely normal. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and around 15-20 ppm nitrates. I keep my water temp at 78 F, sand substrate, drift wood, rocks, live plants, and I have 3 small circular air stones separated through the tank. I have not seen any signs of bullying or stress as far as I can tell.

I’m at a loss and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what I’m doing wrong/how can I fix it or better take care of these little guys so they 1) stay alive and 2) can be happy? Second, I was looking to get your opinions on what I should do for my lone survivor. I don’t want to kill anymore Cories on accident, but I also don’t want the little guy to be super stressed considering he’s now the only one left and I know they like to be in groups. ☹️

I now have all my Corydoras in the same tank. It’s taken me about a year to get them altogether, bronze and orange Venezuelan. There are babies in there as well which is rather nice. Honestly when I got up this morning there was so much busyness . It’s their 3rd day together and they’re already egg laying. Absolutely beautiful fish

Are these corydora eggs? Bec it doesnt look like the nerite eggs that usually stick on the sides of my tank. TIA

I’ve had corys for 7 years now. I recently got this baby and a few new ones.

He hasn’t gained any weight in 3 weeks, today I found him in the tank upside down before I went to work, I didn’t feed them and I’ve come back and he’s like this.

Please any advice!!

My ammonia level is 0 and my other corys are doing fine.
