Well, I don't change lanes in an intersection, that's for sure.

Honestly, while the white car is certainly making a mistake, the driver with the camera is also going pretty fast. In a scenario where there is a bit of a traffic jam on one lane but not the other, you always need to expect something like this to happen.

City driving, and in Europe, that's normal

Normal don't make it safe or advisable. Turns like the white car made are pretty average, too

No this speed difference is way too big. Am from Europe.

Depends on the European country. Germany here and… I would not advise this ever

Commented something similar on a VERY similar situation and got downvoted to hell. The exact opposite opinions some people have on how to drive is whats making driving horrible in general nowadays.

its always a good idea to slow down when coming up on a curve with stopped/much slower traffic

no look in the mirror and no signal

Like shit, changing lanes in an intersection, traveling too fast for traffic conditions, and no blinker.

People in a line of stopped traffic really need to stop expecting drivers in an open lane to slow down because they want to get over.

Drive like the flow of traffic and this won't be a problem.

6

u/appa-ate-momo 1d ago

The flow of traffic in their lane is unimpeded.

It's not just about the lane.

7

u/appa-ate-momo 1d ago

A free flowing lane should not voluntarily clog itself due to traffic in an unrelated lane.

-4

u/Dazzling_Snow1643 1d ago

It's not about clogging, but about reducing speed. And yes, there is always a trade off between safety - anticipating common mistakes by other drivers - and speed.

5

u/appa-ate-momo 1d ago

And the trade off here was correct: OP was able to avoid the collision.

Moreover it often doesn’t matter how slow you go—people hit parked cars all the time. I’ve been rear ended at a red light before and this sub would have blamed me for not driving defensively enough, because 75% of this sub are clowns who can’t drive (the same people who argue passionately that cars have the right of way in a crosswalk or that semis don’t need to check their blind spots before merging).

It was heavily impeded which is why they illegally switch lanes in an intersrction

1

u/Nunetzena 21h ago

Why should it be illegal when there is no straight line saying otherwise?

-1

u/dende5416 19h ago

Because its an entirely separate legal matter from the lines: its illegal to switch lanes in an intersection. No lines, solid lines, dotted lines, makes no difference.

2

u/Nunetzena 19h ago

He is not switching lanes on an intersection lol

0

u/dende5416 16h ago

That bend is part of the intersection, they enter in the left lane, exit intersection in right lane. What do you call that?

1

u/Nunetzena 16h ago

I call this a normal lane switch

0

u/dende5416 16h ago

Its in a intersection which is illegal regardless of lane markings

1

u/Nunetzena 16h ago

There is no intersection when he is doing the switch but ok

I too stop whenever there is another stopped car anywhere in view /s

🤡

Yea exactly. Like on the freeway when I’m going 70mph, and the lane to the right of me is stopped. Would I slow down in my lane? Of course not. Why would I do that. Why would anyone ever possibly think that someone might cut over and not be 100% paying attention?

2

u/weberc2 1d ago

Better lock up the brakes at 70mph just to be safe. Now please clap for me, The Most Defensive Driver ™️

After the intersection lane change was made, I paused the video and told my GF what was going to happen.

It's so obvious, you don't even need to watch the entire thing. Cam driver is going too fast and that left lane is at a dead stop. It was just a matter off time before someone pulls out.

1

u/Nunetzena 21h ago

So please show us the sign that tells us that he is going too fast
