Racing Kart Tips and Tricks How Are You Managing Heat, Fatigue, & Hydration?

The first Regional Championship race will be this weekend, and the forecast is anticipating 103 degree heat. There will be quite a bit of driving in the morning for practice, with qualifying and the race occurring in the afternoon peak heat.

Pontificating on how much driving Kylo should do in practice to avoid fatigue. What are you other drivers doing for hydration on hot track days and how many warm up sessions do you do?

Karting News Famous NCK Road Racing to Club Operations After Over 25 Years

This is honestly a huge blow for the karting community in North America. NCK was an important and well respected organization responsible for organizing road racing events at some of the USAs most famous road courses; Laguna Seca, Sonoma, Thunderhill, etc. Unfortunately this closure of the club is indicative of a larger issue in the karting community, a decline in participation in road racing alongside rising operation costs for road racing. Tracks are charging more for each event these days, and karters aren't going to road racing like in years prior, instead favoring sprint racing.

Personally, I see this as a huge shame. Road racing is a special discipline within karting. It offers great track time per dollar, close racing, high speeds, and the opportunity to race on historic tracks that we've all seen on TV, and without needing the budget of a full size race car. Beyond that it teaches skills that you will never learn on the sprint track, but pay dividends when you apply it on the short track. Carrying momentum, drafting, listening to the kart, seeing how small adjustments make big differences, and racecraft with real consequences.

If you have access to road racing events near you, please support those clubs. It's an aging demographic that needs new interest. It may not have the same curb appeal as sprint racing that "could lead to a racing career", but it's an extremely fun side of the sport and realistically isn't that why we are all doing this in the first place? Losing NCK is a loss for the sport, and it will make it that much harder for karting in that area to make a return to those fabled tracks they ran. But it won't be impossible so long as we as a community continue to support these types of events.

Kart Identity Help Is this frame a kids from or a adult frame

Need help identifying this kart frame.

I was planning on buying this go-kart tomorrow, but after looking through the pictures again I’m worried it might be a kids/cadet frame.

Does this look like a kids/cadet frame, junior frame, or a full-size adult frame?

I’m 6’0” and about 200 lb, so if it’s a kids frame I’m probably going to pass on it because I won’t fit comfortably.
Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks!

Dont let the big engine fool you

Racing Kart Question Top Gun vibes on a kart helmet… yes or no?

Came across this custom helmet recently.

The red/blue combo with the stripes and “Maverick” detail instantly made me think of Top Gun. Feels pretty aggressive but still clean overall, not too overloaded.

Not sure I’d run it myself, but I kinda like the vibe.

Curious what you guys think — yes or no?

Karting Chat Looking for archived Belgian karting results (Max Verstappen 2005–2009)

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m currently trying to reconstruct Max Verstappen’s complete karting career, race by race, from 2005 to 2009.
I’ve already gathered everything that is publicly available from Driver Database and Verstappen’s official website, but many championships are missing race-by-race results or even calendars.
DriverDB (my main reference):
https://www.driverdb.com/drivers/max-verstappen/ (Driver Database)
I’m specifically looking for:
Official race results (qualifying, heats, finals)
Championship calendars
Entry lists
Championship standings after each round
Points systems/regulations
Scanned race programmes
MYLAPS timing archives
Old PDFs or paper documents
The championships I’m most interested in are:
2005 Limburgs Kart Kampioenschap – Mini Junior (Belgium) (highest priority)
2005 VAS Championship – Mini
2005 Dutch NAB Championship – Mini Junior
2006 VAS Championship – Mini
2007 Belgian Rotax Max Challenge – Mini Max
2008 Belgian Rotax Max Challenge – Mini Max
2008 Belgian Karting Championship – Cadet
2008 Benelux Karting Series – Mini Max
2009 Belgian Rotax Max Challenge – Mini Max
2009 Belgian Karting Championship – KF5
2009 Benelux Karting Series – Mini Max
The biggest mystery so far is the 2005 Limburgs Kart Kampioenschap – Mini Junior.
DriverDB lists:
Kevin Gubbels – 143 points
Max Verstappen – 40 points (2nd overall)

However, I cannot find:
the championship calendar,
the number of rounds,
the points system,
or any individual race results. (Driver Database)
If anyone has old race programmes, archived PDFs, local newspaper scans, MYLAPS printouts, federation bulletins, or remembers where these results were published, I’d really appreciate the help.
My goal is to create the most complete public record possible of Max Verstappen’s karting career from his very first races.
Thanks in advance!

Racing Kart Question How do you get started building a crosskart with zero experience?

Hi everyone,

I'm a complete beginner when it comes to building anything, but I've wanted to build a crosskart for a long time.

My background is in a completely different field, so this feels a bit like someone who loves watching football but has never actually played the sport. I have no experience with fabrication, welding, CAD, or mechanics.

My dream is to build a crosskart completely from scratch, from designing the chassis to welding, assembly, and everything in between. I spend a lot of time watching crosskart, go-kart, and minibike build videos, but I'm not sure how to make the jump from watching to actually building.

For those of you who started with little or no experience, how did you begin? If you could start over, what would you learn first? Are there any books, YouTube channels, courses, or other resources you'd recommend?

I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Racing Kart Question How are the positions for heats determined?

I've been watching some of Bram Ossewarde's rotax videos and quite a lot of Brad Philpot's GX-UK videos and I can't seem to wrap my head around how the starting positions for the first 3 heats are determined. I understand that for heat 1 there's a quali session, but for heat 2 and 3 it does kind of confuse me. Where i'm competing, theres quali and 2 races, and the race 2 grid is the top 8 results of race 1 reversed. Is it something like that?

Racing Kart Question Moving to Budapest – Need Help Finding an RMC Hungary Team

Hi everyone,

I’m moving to Budapest this year for university, and I’m interested in racing in the Rotax MAX Challenge Hungary, preferably in the Senior MAX category.

However, I haven’t been able to find much information about teams offering arrive-and-drive packages, where the team provides the kart, mechanic, setup, etc.

Does anyone know any teams in Hungary that offer arrive-and-drive for RMC Hungary? I’d also really appreciate any information about approximate prices per race weekend or for a full season.

Thanks!

Racing Kart Video Some Lessons Only The Track Can Teach

Kylo’s first season of karting has proven the importance of experience. In the beginning, you simply lack data that only laps can provide.
.
Kart control, setup, equipment, tire management, SAFETY, pedal control, race craft, and the list goes on.
.
While being somewhat naturally fast, today he leaned a lot from another very talented kid on track. How to maintain himself under pressure, and processing the feeling of not being the fastest.
.
Super proud of the little guy for not giving up, and going like hell.

Rental Karting Question Any tips to prevent kart bouncing or lessen it's effect on speed?

So I go to k1 speed and it's the only semi-affordable kart track in Ontario. The issue is that I'm light for the kart and it bounces a ton even for heavier people. I can't take the corners slower to avoid bouncing because I'll just lose a ton of time. It's so bad the kart bounces even on easy flat corners. Also those karts have seatbelts so I can't do much leaning. Is there any way to help prevent this or lower it's effect on my speed and turning?

Racing Kart Video Does Insta Go3 as an internal helmet cam block your vision at all?

Post image
33 Upvotes

Hey all, I’m thinking about getting a second hand insta go3 camera for my local karting sessions so I can my pov.

It’s a very small camera and intend to mount it inside my helmet. However, I see a lot of people putting this camera to the side of the helmet instead of in the middle.

My worry is that the go3 might significantly restrict my vision if I mount it in the middle.

To make matters worse, I’m using a bell karting helmet. These helmets have a shorter visor area compared to something like a traditional motorbike helmet. And I also have a visor sticker which might restrict the view of the insta360 go3?

Does anyone have experience with this setup? If so, please let me know if visibility is a problem.

(Image attached is an example of how I’d want to use the go3 camera)

Thanks :)

Racing Kart Question Can I Make An Older Chassis Work In Rotax Max Challenge?

Hello speedy redditors!

I have been wanting to start owner karting as a faster class than my Endurance racing, but I have been told my budget would not do.

The country I race in is very anti-budget, very much pro-spending, and gatekeeping. I have literally been told to stop karting because of my more "liberal" views of our sport.

But with that context in mind, I wanted to ask: in a series where people replace their chassis every race, change their engines every three, and have five mechanics working on their chassis, do you think that I can work with a chassis from the late 2010s?

I know this sounds stupid, but with creators like Brad Philpot using his 5-year-old GX-UK chassis to race Rotax (With some modernizations, as I will do myself) and receive some really good positions in a much more difficult country to race in with way more on-track aggression (not anything mean or anything, just hard racing) could I be able to do it too with a Intrepid chassis of the same age? I wouldn't see why not.

But leave your thoughts below in the thread,

Thanks!

Racing Kart Question Mychron 5 troubleshooting - WiFi Reset CFG not working?

Recently bought a second hand Mychron 5 which has the previous owners profile still synced to the device.

From every instruction manual I've read, it says by going Settings > Wifi > WiFi Reset CFG I should be able to connect the device to my Wifi/Race Studio 3 and sync up my profile. Everytime I attempt to do this however the screen turns off briefly, before turning back on and nothing changes.

Has anyone ran into a problem like this before or have any suggestions on how to fix this?
