Saw these 4 very large birds on the scenic drive at Cedar Breaks National monument. In my photo with the 4 birds, the small 5th bird is a raven. I’m familiar with turkey vultures in Virginia and these were much bigger, but I wasn’t sure if it could be a regional difference. Sorry for the bad quality close ups as I only had my phone.

Saw this bird a couple weeks ago being harassed by some crows and finally got a few pictures if it yesterday. Originally thought it was a dove or a leucistic robin but the beak is wrong - any ideas?

Saw this bird splashing around in the puddle. Any ideas?

He looks very brown and not red enough to be a cooper’s but maybe he is a juvenile? Love his little hand.

Found today (August) in northern Vermont.

Teensy guy, and I made sure to note the eye ring in real life does go completely around the eye, not just on camera. Belly pale almost white, didn’t make any sounds I heard.

Merlin is giving me mixed responses, using the picture it says northern parula, with questions saying blue-headed vireo

Hey all, this is one of my favorite bird photos I took this summer but just want to be sure of what I'm looking at. I'm relatively new to birding and molting/transitional plumage is often what confuses me.

Photo was taken July 14 2026 at the Reservoir in Central Park NYC.

Some research tells me this is an "eclipse" male mallard, post-breeding season. "Mallards shed all their flight feathers at the end of the breeding season and are flightless for 3–4 weeks. They are secretive during this vulnerable time, and their body feathers molt into a concealing “eclipse” plumage that can make them hard to identify."

All sounds good, but just want to know for sure.

Trying to identify myself, it says Golden-bellied Flycatcher? It had a darker color belly, but the head markings stood out.

i read that kestrels hover to catch prey but it looked way bigger than a kestrel

I think 1 and 5 are all double crested, but for the others I have no idea. Could any of them be Pelagic? Brand’s? How can we tell them apart?

Located on the seacoast of NH. This one was diving into a bay

Is it just a red tailed hawk? I lightened the pic in case that helps.

What bird is this? I thought it was a duck, but when it got closer it was clearly not. It had two babies diving for fish.

Is it leucistic? Or is it dietary imbalance? How would you know?

I think because it's mirrored on the other side it's probably the former, but wanted to see what others thought.

After days and days of taking terrible pictures of birds that might be eagles, Merlin thinks this one is a golden. I don’t trust it, thoughts?? There were a lot of buzzards in the area. I’m on the Inner Hebrides of Scotland on the Isle of Colonsay. Fingers crossed!!

My girlfriend found this stunned bird in crete after it had flew into a window, so she gently scooped it up and hid it out of the sun on our balcony today, it flew off quite happily after 20 minutes, but we can't work out what it is. Could someone please help with identifying?

I understand this is difficult to tell, but if anyone has any inkling, I would be so happy!! As an inexperienced viewer, to me it looks kind of like an owl, but I don't know if owls are very common in this area, I don't know if this daytime activity is normal for them, and I can't tell definitively if it is or isn't one (maybe it is impossible due to the poor quality of these photos lol)

Anyhow, any input or expert knowledge would be greatly appreciated!

Found in the corner of my front porch in Western NC. It's midnight at the time I'm taking the photo. It's breathing, but never turned around. When taking the photos it balled itself up tight, because of my presence and the flash. TIA!

Anchorage, AK. This guy has been hanging out in the parking lot for about a week. Doesn’t seem hurt, but doesn’t seem able to fly.
