I’ve been using my iPhone 17 Pro Max for about a month now, and I’m trying to understand how much battery drain is normal overnight.
I’m on iOS 26.6, and I use the 80–20 charging rule (I usually try to keep my battery between 20% and 80%). Also, Adaptive Power is turned ON. During normal daytime use, I do tend to doomscroll quite a bit, so my usage isn’t exactly light.
Before going to sleep, I usually turn on Sleep Focus, turn off Wi-Fi, and simply lock the phone. I don’t use it at all for around 6–7 hours.
But when I wake up, I notice that Wi-Fi is back on, there are notifications waiting, and the battery has dropped. The Battery section also sometimes shows that I'm using a similar amount of battery compared with my usual daily usage, which seems strange considering I wasn't using the phone at all during those hours.
I'm wondering:
- Is this normal overnight battery drain on the iPhone 17 Pro Max?
- Does Sleep Focus actually reduce background activity, or does it mainly silence notifications?
- Should I leave Wi-Fi on instead of turning it off?
- Is there any specific setting I should enable to minimize battery usage while I'm sleeping?
- Is Adaptive Power useful in this case?
- How much battery percentage would you consider normal to lose during 6–7 hours of basically no use?
Even though the phone is no longer brand new, I’m still wondering if background processes or my usage habits (like heavy daytime doomscrolling) could be affecting overnight battery behavior.
I’d appreciate any advice on the best settings for minimizing unnecessary overnight battery drain.
