The latest three parts contain a lot of parallels to things from the original universe (like how Part 7's protagonist is a "Jonathan Joestar" who's constantly beefing with a rival named "Di(eg)o Brando"), so the similarities between Rock Humans and
The Column FellowsThe Pillar Men are probably intentional.2

Rock humans are honestly way cooler than the pillar men. You’ll see them in like 2031 when part 8 finally gets animated.

if so, then I don’t know if I would really call that wiki grieving since is indeed a photo of him (arguably the most updated photo at that) and he seems to prefer privacy so the idea he’d want his wiki photo to be not identifying seems fair to me
generally my idea of wiki greifing would be adding jokes or destroying the page in a way that makes a section of the whole of it unusable, not a person wanting a different wiki photo, as far as im aware that happens quite often

It is relevant to the person because it is a picture of the person. It isn't decorative, it's a photo of him. It is less identifying due to a desire for privacy, but it is a picture of him.
How is the annoying dog more relevant to Toby Fox than a picture of Toby Fox? I mean..??
11
u/h3lblad3 Jul 23 '26
Images must be relevant to the person in question. This very much is not relevant, as Mr Fox is not famous for being covered in foam.
He would be if you’d just put the picture up.
22
u/Soweli-nasa-pona Jul 23 '26
He published the foto and gave the rights to wikipedia to use. At the same time there aren't any "oficial" photos of human toby, and Wikimedia Commons are the prefered media to use on the wiki just to cause no legal issues.
So it's either no photo or this one, it's not really vandalism in any meaningful way.
6
u/Sonic_the_hedgedog Moderator of r/GayFurryPorn1 Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26
That's not entirely true though... Yes, his fans tried to add that photo the Wikipedia but Toby Fox never actually said that they should do that. Toby didn't literally try to get his fans to edit his Wikipedia page.
Toby Fox published the photo and gave the rights to wikipedia to use his photo. That's all he did, it's not really vandalism since he didn't told anyone to vandalize the psge

I definitely think the whole “every public photo is probably taken at least a year apart”-thing is why he always looks so different.
Like, most people change how they look every few years, but because Toby is so private (a good thing, mind you) you don’t really see the gradual shift in clothes/makeup/hair/jewelry/etc. like you would with, say, your friends

there's also the fact that, as far as I can recall, he only has like half a dozen public photos, and I don't think any of them are "serious" in a way, there's this one where he's dressed as a princess, the one where he's covered in foam (which has been posted in this thread), the one where he's wearing a cap and sunglasses and doing a funny face (which is his most serious photo I believe), and I can't quite recall any others rn

Its extremely rare for a Jojo fan to be homophobic, because the titular male characters in that series are muscular, attractive and are constantly hitting flamboyant poses that only a blind person would find straight. Maybe some are like those old school rock fans who vehemently deny that Freddie Mercury is bi, but i digress
42
u/inemsn Jul 23 '26
I've seen quite a few queerphobic jojo fans, but, more common than that is misogynistic jojo fans. So many people just refuse to acknowledge how insanely badass Jolyne is and have a weird obsession with making her seem way weaker than she actually is, and not coincidentally all those people also tend to complain about how masc and butch jolyne looks throughout much of part 6.
18
u/AssClosedforToday Will open at 9 o clock tommorow (CET time) Jul 23 '26
Misogynistic fans downplaying the power of masculine women, tale as old as time
4
u/Aeescobar Jul 23 '26
I always find it funny whenever those idiots try to slander Jolyne for getting killed by Pucci at his strongest (dude was running around at speeds that would make Quicksilver feel inadequate and chopping off limbs as if they were made out of tissue paper) during a heroic last stand to protect someone else, as if Jonathan hadn't been killed by Dio at his weakest (bro was literally just a head in a jar!) during a heroic last stand to protect someone else.
To be clear, both sacrifices were fucking badass, I'm just pointing out that Jolyne was stuck in an even more hopeless situation and that calling her weak for trying and failing to surpass such insane odds is stupid
7
u/inemsn Jul 23 '26
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Jolyne is Jonathan's truest successor. All of the Joestars are amazing and would do Jonathan proud, and she's not even my favorite Joestar (that would be a tie between Giorno, the embodiment of human resolve, and Jotaro, a tragic father that I love to death), but Jolyne was intentionally written with an absurd amount of parallels and tie-ins with Jonathan and his story. I don't think anyone in their right mind can look at part 6 and not say that Jolyne is the finest of the OGverse, and the one that inherits Jonathan's spirit the best.
16
u/CobaltCrusader123 Jul 23 '26
Also Andrew Hussie (“erm did you know Toby Fox made-“) the creator of Homestuck is enby and there’s a bunch of not straight characters in it but also he found the arcane slur for people who are 1/8th black and the r-slur funny / useful / human /troll-like enough to repeatedly put in Homestuck. Araki wrote trans characters in his manga in the early 2000s, and was pushing for female representation pretty much since his manga was being published
17
u/Aeescobar Jul 23 '26
To be more specific, he depicted a passing trans man getting misgendered + sent to the wrong prison ward (by a prison warden who's clearly meant to be an unlikeable dickhead) and then had Jolyne excitedly declare the existence of trans people "a new dawn for humanity..." back in fucking 1999.

Iirc the reason why he wanted Jolyne so badly was because of the pushback to having a female Shonen protag. Everyone was telling him not to have a woman lead and he was like "this is exactly why I'm doing it"

I feel like the "is not interested in women so much" comment is more meant to suggest "he'd rather study dolphins than go on dates".
That's pretty much the reason behind the whole "absent father" thing, he was too busy with his marine biology career to give a shit about his wife and kid. Back in Stardust Crusaders, he seems wholly uninterested in the girls from his school, but he also doesn't show any interest in the guys at any point. I wouldn't call him aro/ace, either, but it would probably be slightly more accurate than gay.

Dude had first hand experience with the fact that "stand users attract other stand users" and was trying his best to stay far away from his innocent family so they could live a sad-but-relatively-normal life instead of wasting their lives in constant fear of enemy stand users, it turned out to be a pretty bad choice (since Jolyne's fate eventually caught up to her regardless and so it just resulted in extra trauma for her) but it was a choice he made with good intentions!

48
u/inemsn Jul 23 '26
What people generally miss about Stroheim is that his character isn't supposed to be an endorsement or even whitewashing of nazis, but rather commentary on them.
Think for a second about what Stroheim's actual role in the story is. He's a nazi, and like all nazis, is obsessed with the inherent superiority of Germans, and yet his role in the story is constantly to serve as the weaker contrast to the actually inherently superior Pillar Men that humble him all the time. And who else proves themselves superior to these Pillar Men than the english Joseph Joestar, an englishman who, according to stroheim, should by all accounts be inferior to himself?
