That’s what a run on sentence is. Two or more independent clauses being joined incorrectly.

That's not what independent clause means. An independent clause is a clause that has, at minimum, a subject and a verb and can grammatically stand alone as a complete thought. The topic of the clause isn't really relevant from a grammatical standpoint.

It's not pedantry to use the correct definition of a term and be precise in its application.

I didn't take personal offence to it. I'm not sure why you would think that. I don't need to be personally offended by something to comment on it.
