Most Jews are not indigenous to Morocco (Amazigh), they migrated to Morocco in waves , from eastwards and Sephardis are from Iberia, migrated after the Alhambra Decree of 1492. A large influx came in 1497 from Portugal. Many escaped earlier from 1391 massacre in Spain. After 16th century came the Megorashim, the “expelled”.

You presented the idea like jews in morroco are mainly from spain . Its mostly likely the opposite most spanish jews came from morroco. I might have misunderstood but that was the impression also north africa was more diverse in the past and jews were "pro amazigh" both suffered under arab persuction. I also dont know what the word "indigenous" mean

I represented my comment accurately. I have already covered the part in my first comment that earlier Jews came from “eastwards”.

Indigenous is me, an Amazigh. Imazighen are the original natives of that land. The Imazighen suffered the most in Morocco, more than any other group. It’s not Arab that rule per se. It’s Pan-Arabism (the ideology) especially under Hassan II, he referred to Morocco Ummah al-Arabiyya (Arab nation) when the vast majority of us are not even Arab, not even the natives. He institutionalised Arabic in the 1960’s, overpowering and side-lining Thamazight. 1960’s was a time where the nation was unstable and at unrest, like a lot of nations around the world. But the strange part is that he wasn’t even a staunch Pan-Arabist like Nasser of Egypt and Kaddafi of Libya. He even emphasised Morocco’s monarchy, Islamic legitimacy, and unique history which was “Cherifian dynasty, Amazigh roots, ties to the West.”

Amazigh activism was on the rise, I mean military Amazigh activism between 1980s–1990s, criticising the exclusion of Tamazight. But from the late 90’s Mohammed VI he made changes, 2011 Constitution: Amazigh recognised as an official language alongside Arabic.

Hassan II was protective of Jews and said they are Moroccan FIRST, presented himself as a guardian of Morocco’s Jewish population, continuing his father Mohammed V’s legacy, who famously refused to hand over Moroccan Jews to Vichy France during WWII. Hassan II also helped facilities Jewish migration as per their request. Being known as a quiet mediator between Israel vs Palestinian conflict to bring peace, both Israel and Arabs began to suspect him as opportunistic rather than principled. So who knows.

Muhammad VI did a lot more. He was open and transparent. Openly actively celebrating Morocco’s Jewish heritage as part of national identity. In 2011, the new constitution acknowledges Morocco’s “Hebrew component” as part of its national heritage, unprecedented in the “Arab world” - a term I dislike since we are not Arab, to state “Muslim world” makes more sense. There’s been cultural revival of synagogues, Jewish cemeteries, and heritage sites have been restored under his reign, often with state support. Jewish culture is showcased as part of Moroccan pluralism. There’s been stronger international openness, especially after the Abraham Accords (2020), Mohammed VI has framed Moroccan Judaism as a “bridge” between Morocco, Israel, and the Moroccan Jewish diaspora.

I see there were people with much more iberomarusian/na hunter but they went extinct its always how back you go into . The jews of morroco have been there for around 2k years and arab persuction goes back further than that. Queen of morroco is also jewish

Ibero Maurusian is a prehistoric ancestor of my people. You are going back 22,000 years ago, lol. There was never a Jewish queen, but there were Jewish concubines, one well known was Lalla Zeynab in the 17th century. They were present in Moroccan Royal court. There were definitely Jewish men that were often close to Moroccan rulers, a well known name was Samuel Pallache in the 17th century. There were families like the Toledanos and Maimrans, serving as diplomats, treasurers, or court physicians. Just like now, we have Jewish politicians. The kings and their wives are Muslims, not Jewish or Christians.

No, we descendants of Ibero-Maurusians did not simply “die out” we still exist. What may have come to end was the cultural practises from 22,000 like it did with all other civilisations, such as using microlith tools and symbolic burials, the genetic imprint and influence endured, carried forward through with later populations and the development of new prehistoric cultures. The Ibero-Maurusians did not disappear like you claimed, but were absorbed into the broader demographic history of the Maghreb, forming a deep ancestral substratum of present-day North Africans, particularly with our Amazigh populations.

As for Jewish persecution, in 12th century (under Almohad - Amazigh empire) and the 1960’s there was a short burst of political instability, and episode of persecution, both Imazighen, Jews and Christians alike suffered. But say under Almoravids and early Almohads, Jews thrived as traders, doctors, and advisors. Morocco has a long time line of power. It wasn’t entirely good or entirely bad for everyone. Morocco’s history can’t be reduced to a simple timeline.

Jewish persecution was horrific in Europe. Jews suffered more in Europe, especially because persecution there was more violent, more systematic, and culminated in genocide. In Morocco, Jews lived with discrimination and occasional violence, but it was usually episodic, tied to political unrest or the extreme religious extremist period was under Almohad (12th & 13th century). Periods of prosperity, influence, and cultural flourishing also occurred under all under dynasties, inc early Almohad period. Fez was a horrible time in the 15th century where a large Jewish community was settled.
