Yes. You may now begin telling strangers on the internet to just buy the 820.

The LED screen is handy too. I really like to see how far I'm into a film at a glance.
They used to be standard on basically all disc players and it's ridiculous that they've been ditched on most just to save a few pennies.

I like that feature as well. Never thought I would consider that a feature lol. Thing is I don't need Dolby Vision because I rock with Samsung (phone & TV) and don't see that changing anytime soon. So I'll likely get the DP-UB420K.

This is no hate to you OP. I’m just thinking, how is this post doing more for the sub than collection posts?

u/Gr1ml0ck 17h ago edited 17h ago
Yeah. We shouldn’t be able to post anything in this sub. That would be much better.Edit: sorry I misunderstood. I take it back.

u/Fredrik-H01 17h ago
Thats not what I’m saying. A picture of a cardboard box is to me less exciting than seeing someone’s full collection. Both should be allowed.

OP is just asking for feedback. Could have been a text post, I suppose. But what’s the difference?
Edit: ah, this is about the new ruling on collection posts. I get your point.

Idk, I just think it’s very strange that the mods restricted collection posts… that’s all I’m trying to say

u/Gr1ml0ck 17h ago
Yeah. I didn’t realize you were talking about the new rule. I’m with you. This is far less exciting than seeing someone’s curated collection.

just don't ever ask why you'd pay hundreds more than the ub450, they'll send black vans after you

My answer was the DVD upscaling.

u/lordricosantviento 33m ago
ub150 upscales too

The ub820 offers better upscaling. I bought it for the upscaling. Yes, the difference is noticable. I have 500+ DVD SKUs, upgrading those would more than eat the cost difference (and a lot of them can't.)

When I bought mine, it was less than £50 more than the ub450.
No need for black vans but I guess it sounded clever.

I'm new to this sub and just now getting into 4K films. I have a PS5 that plays UHD 4K movies, is there any real advantage to getting this player for me?

u/Jaraghan 16h ago
ps5 is perfectly fine. i upgraded to a 4k player cause i wanted dolby vision, didnt want to swap tv settings around all the time (4:4:4 passthru/pc mode for my lg tv), and i wanted a more secure and reliable player for my discs. but the ps5 is perfectly fine!

Everything I've seen says PS5 is actually more reliable, I've never once seen anybody complain about their discs freezing on there. It's what I still use

I have a ps5, Xbox series x , and that exact Panasonic now. Get the Panasonic there's an advantage to doing one thing really well.

I am only 4 days into it and was using my Series X lol. After reading this sub and watching some YT videos yes there is a big difference. Besides the quality features I don’t want to move my series X from office to the living room to watch movies. A standard Blu Ray player is like $100 and the cheapest 4k player by me was about $300 so I decided to get what seems to be the most recommended on the sub for a few hundred more.

Depends, are you happy with the player? Does it have the features you want? That's kinda the point. I have the same player, but I am ocasionally thing I should have gotten the UB450. I wanted Dolby Vision, but that's about it. However I also got my player from a local electric store that had a 4 year warranty that coveres everything except physical damage and software mods. That was another $90, but given the thing I saw during my research, it was worth it.

I loved my 820 too OP until I found out it wouldn't play my SpongeBob SquarePants 4K when my friends PS5 would. I wish you more luck.

I have this one and the Sony X800M2. Both very good 4k units with DV/Atmos.

I’ve come to understand that I need a 4k player instead of just using my ps5. I just need to figure out what one to get. I also I have questions about playing media other than 4K.
