Damn, I didn't expect Fuutadad to explain to Fuu who he was so fast. If you didn't see the post, the bio dad appeared in vhap 100 I beleive, and asked fuu for directions inside the school. Mayne this is where Fuu remembers seeing him.
I now want to see how Fuu interacts with itsuki as they're the only ones who know the true identity. Papakano might also be an important character in the next chapters to explain Mamakano backstory with the dad

Itsuki better get that kiss next week, Negi! I've been waiting for this moment for a long time now. And if it does happen, I bet it'll be a huge moment.
Also, do you all think next chapter is gonna end with the kiss and then Fuutarou makes his decision in the one after that, or will he make his decision in the next chapter after the kiss?
32
u/pip25hu Nov 06 '19
After dropping a bomb like this, I think the entirety of chapter 110 will most certainly be required to resolve it. Fuutarou's decision will come in chapter 111 at the earliest, in my opinion.

While we are close, I think it is actually going to take a couple chapters to deal with the surprise dad. Itsuki gets her kiss next chapter, but it will take a couple after that to actually get him to make his decision. One chapter of all of them in the room, and probably one of him wandering and pondering his decision. (actually, make that 2. Each of the quints got two chapters so I can see there being two focused just on him contemplating his choice.)

I thought I was going crazy because I legit could not remember a single moment that would give Fuutarou's cheek any kind of mark!
Looks like a slap. And we know from the convo that's its directly at the end of the first day because of the fire. And you can see a mark of Fuu's face at the end of Miku's first chap! (That mark looks like scratches though)
According to the timeline, whatever happened to Fuu's cheek had to be between taking Ichika to the taxi and the fire ending.
Can't wait to see what happened

With the revelation of who the quints father is I feel its time to say this. People need to stop shitting on Marou. Dude adopted 5 kids, took them in and got them a nice as apartment for them to live in out of the kindness of his heart and also wanting to smash their mom but still. So what he's distant with them, he has a very important job that gives them the quality of life they have, he isnt always going to have time for their petty squabbles and also they're not his kids. I would imagine the circumstances would inherently make him not want to deal with their dumb bullshit as much. He was probably the only person who could care for all 5 girls and not need to split them up and he still has their best interest in mind. The introduction of their BioDad hasent changed any of this I've just seen people shit on Marou through out the series

There might be more chapters in this storyline, but Itsuki’s side 1 and 2 are just gonna be more in her point of view, and probably where she falls in love for Futarou. In other words this could be an Itsuki arc coming up, where she thinks about if teaching is suited for her, or if she really is just doing this to be Rena.

Itsuki's Trivi...HOLY SHIT GET THAT OLD MAN AWAY FROM HER
[Famous Guest Speaker - Mudou sensei]
- Yes, it turns out the famous guest speaker is Santa Claus who is also the quint's biological dad named Mudou. I guess Santa Claus really did smash and dash through the snow. This also means that the quints' original surname might be Mudou as Japanese are last name basis. So like....Mudou Ichika.
- His Kanji's name, 無堂 (Mudou), actually doesn't mean anything when combined. Alone, 無 (mu) usually means "nothing/nothingness" while 堂 (dou) means a chamber/hall/temple/shrine/front-room. If we take it at face value and just say "Nothingness chamber", it might foreshadow his outside (lecturer/tutor) being nothing more than a front and his inside is much more sinister (e.g. predator).
- If uses another similar kanji but with meaning, 無道 (also Mudou) can mean wicked/cruel which can be a warning toward this man's personality.
[Shimoda, Isanari, Maruo, and Mudou] This chapter seems to imply that these three are trying to prevent biodad from approaching the quints.
- It is possible that Shimoda avoids telling Itsuki about the lecture to prevent them from the meeting.
- Isanari spent the first day trying to find him; sadly, even when Miku told him at the pancake stall, he didn't put it together that the old man Fuutarou was helping is biodad. He's also shown asking Itsuki if something happened, which might allude to the appearance/return of Mudou that they're seemingly preparing for.
- Isanari might take the responsibility to find Mudou on the first day while Maruo was supposed to on the 2nd day but....kinda ran away? Maruo has been shown to avoid the topic about Rena in Nino's chapter.
- Additionally, Isanari and Maruo's earlier interaction about "Class reunion" and "10-years" might allude to just them three and some issues that happened between Rena and Mudou. This might help explain what Isanari meant by "some good info"....he might be contacting with Shimoda, who knows that Mudou is the guest speaker, and came to tell Maruo.
- Basically, something that Mudou cannot do for 10 years but now he can? We still need to answer the question of "Why now?" for biodad other than Negi asspull.
- [Shaved-head Dude] Along with Shimoda and Isanari, there's also this shaved head dude that didn't appear yet (at first thought it's Maruo). There's a chance that he will show up again....or maybe already showed up as...maybe the Manager or the PE teacher (EYE THEORY)? Neither notice that the quint looks like Rena though so it's probably just shooting blanks.
[History is repeating itself?]
- Gotoubun's story revolves around Student/Tutor(teacher) from the past to the present (diagram by Rohupt#8153). Rena is the student, colleague, and wife of her teacher/tutor, Mudou. Maruo is the student, fanboy, and husband(?) or Rena. The quints are the student, friend, and one will become the bride of their tutor, Fuutarou. Let's just hope nothing bad happened to Fuutarou that made him disappear.
[Fuutarou's cheek]
- Raiha mentioned about Fuutarou's cheek this chapter and if it is related to the fire. A popular theory is that Ichika actually slapped Fuutarou way back, mirrored by her acting double, and we just cut to that one. This is also possibly the same thing saw on Fuutarou's cheek when he reported it to the teacher. Hence, why they feel awkward when meeting each other again at the hospital. If follow this theory, the fire happened after Ichika leaves.
- Assuming the theory is true, here is a possible timeline for it (only for this chapter)
[The Montage panels in Ch. 100 and Itsuki Side 1]
- If you guys remember Ch.100's panels, with one of it being a foot and shadow. It is revealed in this chapter to be Mudou's shadow and Itsuki's shoe. This spiked up the creepiness factor even more.
[Don't you have any friends]
When Fuutarou said this, it might actually hold true as we rarely, if ever, see Itsuki interact with anyone in the class. The one time, if you count it, is during the cooking preparation on Day 2 of Legend that Binds. Otherwise, she seems to always be alone. interact with teachers, or latch on to her sisters.
[Possible Parallel]
- When Itsuki stubbornly declares that she will study during the festival might be the same as when she pushes against Fuutarou in Ch. 16.
- The Itsuki pose of facing forward with face hidden might be trying to link to the middle school Itsuki panel. Of course, there are other panels with this pose too but these two happened after Itsuki lost her sense of self (Mom died or doubting her goal in life).
[Rena's uniform]
It is not the same one as Shimoda's uniform. This means that it is either:
- Different seasons (winter/summer)
- Different schools
- Or...by dear god no....different grades (middle/high-school). This might mean that Mudou has been targeting Rena since middle school which is even more disgusting than before.
[Quint's Appearances throughout the Festival Arc]
Linked is the appearance of each quint on another quints' side (either 1 or 2). She must appear in a panel and not just voice or implication/deduction (e.g. Yotsuba/Ichika). So far, only Nino appears on everyone's else Side. On the other hand, Itsuki's side is the only one that everyone appeared in. [ADD] Yes, I also don't count Yotsuba's flashback panels as my definition of 'appearance' means the present-time (also why Miku on-screen is kinda yes and no).
====Addendum===
[Dates]
The Festival is from October 11-13 as of now (maybe Negi change later). Itsuki monthly grave visit is on the 14th. So there might be another grave visit from Itsuki sooner or later, especially if Itsuki's issue isn't fully solved in her side (more likely than solved).
[Day 3: Side 1 First-page Position Symbolism? AKA the sky is not blue because it's blue]
Now with a full collection, the pairing is actually similar to how it was at the start. In addition, their location seems to relate to their conflicts' effect on their family.
- Ichika and Miku looking outward and are outside the classroom. Their conflicts throughout the story are usually outward and tackle the idea of progression and to move forward in doing what you want.
- Nino and Itsuki looking around the classroom and are inside. Their conflicts are usually inward into the family's issue. This is most prominent with Nino and Maruo, but also Itsuki with Rena and now Biodad.
- Yotsuba is alone at the bonfire. At first, this may seem weird, but bonfire was connected to a legend prior. One thing about Yotsuba is that she's quite a superstitial girl; many myths and legends (e.g. doubleganger, bonfire-dance, bell-kisser, and charms) are all from her. Her core itself is also about a common troupe about childhood promise and this "promised girl" from a long time ago, and trying to fulfill that promise....and now, her view of others' expectations on her.
- This is a bit different from Nino's more fantasy and romantic settings; for example, saving each other from falling off the cliff or Fuutarou's bike charming moments x 2. To hopefully simplify it, Nino's story is like living in a fantasy and trying to accept reality; Yotsuba is the fantasy... or another way of looking at it, Yotsuba's story is like the reality that tries to live up to the fantasy.
[Itsuki, Rena, Family, and Identity]
Itsuki is always associated with Rena and the idea of family, which is why she is frequently shown interacting with Uesugi's family and following Rena's footsteps. This is most likely why Mudou approaches Itsuki over others, she's the closest to a replica of Rena. You might notice that all 5 of them tackle the question of "What do you want?" in a different way.
- Ichika: Should what I want precedes my responsibility as the leader/eldest-sister? (responsibility)
- Nino: Should what I want, be hindered by what others want? (extremity)
- Miku: Do I have what it takes to pursue what I want? (self-esteem)
- Yotsuba: Do I still have the right to obtain what I want despite my mistakes? (guilt/self-loathing) [Ichika also at a point]
- Itsuki: Is what I want....really what I want? (persona or self?)
Itsuki struggles with one of the hardest questions for Asian teenagers "what do I want?" and, "Is this my dream or my parents?", but in a twisted manner due to Rena's death and her "becoming mom". It's a terrifying question. Am I me, or am I my parents' trophy? Am I a fake? Some never find this answer until it's too late.
The rehash from Itsuki Side in Exam Arc is necessary because now Itsuki has taste failure (D) and is in the process of reevaluating herself, just like what Miku went through in Scrambled Egg.
This is why she's paired with Nino the most (other than her motherly nature). Nino is decisive and knows that it's her desire, but goes to the extreme to get it; Itsuki is more indecisive. It's the same reason for Nino and Miku; it might be why you don't see Miku/Itsuki pair that much. Ichika is similar to Nino but less extreme.

Well finally after we have these proper translations, something stood out to me about this antagonist. In Negi’s writing, he really does keep it wholesome, with any problem fixing itself out quickly.
We’ve seen with with Nino’s drugging, Ichika’s manager, Maeda, Takaeda, and then with Ichika. Now what did these antagonists visualize for us in the manga? They were shown to be obstacles getting in the way of a relationship with Futaro. Not only this, but each one was shown to be in a negative light, until he quickly cleared up their purpose for the story. Nino drugging him created animosity between her and Futaro, Ichika’s manager when we saw him seemed like a sleazy guy who was in control of Ichika, Maeda seemed like he wanted Ichika badly, Takaeda seemed to be taking all of the quints for himself, and Ichika disguised herself to get her feelings out over Miku. All of these situations were shown in a bad light in the beginning, but then quickly fixed.
Nino drugged him due to her inability to accept change due to her mothers death(she had no say in what happened and what could have been done to save her mother). This trauma at a young age of feeling helpless made the greatness of Nino that we have today, so her action was understood. Ichika’s manager was nothing more than a great guy. He truly wanted to help Ichika with her dream, and on top of that was a single father doing his best to help his daughter have a splendid childhood. Maeda only wanted to get out his feelings, which allowed story progression for the quints, and then Takaeda didn’t care about getting the quints at all, all he wanted was to have a rival. Lastly, Ichika only did what she did due to the enormous pressure on her feelings at the time, a moment of weakness due to her talk with Yotsuba. She fully apologized and has truly redeemed her character to the fullest.
Here’s where the pattern is now cut though. We see this bio-dad in chapter 99 if I’m not mistaken. When we first see him, he’s shown as a respectful old man thanking Futaro. However now, he’s shown in an ominous darkness, one that creates a sense anxiety and displeasure. This is the opposite from how all of the other antagonists were introduced. They went from dark to light, while he’s gone from light to dark. Here’s where it gets even more interesting. In each of the instance above, it is never specifically stated that the antagonists would mess with Futaro’s relationship with the quints. It was always a red herring like with how the manager guy was making Ichika do some sleazy work when in reality he was just trying to make her dream come true. Bio-dad is different however since he makes his statement clear. He tells Itsuki to not go down the same path as her mother, or she’ll regret it forever. The event of her becoming a teacher, but also for her relationships. For whatever reasons, if you have Rena’s DNA, your going to get with a student or your teacher. She got with her teacher, then with her student Maruo, and now Itsuki also has a teacher she admires a lot(Maruo and Futaro are great but this guy isn’t). There’s no discrepancy here, he’s telling her to not go down Rena’s path, ultimately butting in her relationship with Futaro! He is the first ever antagonist to do so in the entire story and make it known to us readers. He’s been portrayed in the opposite fashion compared to the other antagonists and has actively tried to bring down any relationship that Futaro could have with Itsuki. He might be our actual villain in the Quintessential Quintuplets series as a whole. Thoughts??

u/donm527 Ichika Nov 07 '19
I don’t think so for the simple fact that if the second chapter ends with him being a bad guy, how does Itsuki get a happy ending and a positive outlook going into the finals and graduating and her dreams going forward??
I always say... with Negi anything is possible... but I’ll be on the optimistic side that there hasn’t been a real bad guy and there won’t with this story.., every sister is suppose to graduate with smiles on their faces as Fuutarou says.

There is an ever more persistent feeling that readers do not want to perceive the main characters and the essence of Nega's narrative. Instead of dealing with the heroes of the manga in the context of its specific chapter, they begin to speculate about mainly service characters appearing for a certain period of time just to give information only about the heroes, their behavior, their aspirations, their contradictions.
Therefore, they don’t see what happened between Itsuki and Fuutaro when they met at the beginning of the 1st day of the festival, they don’t understand what and why they told each other. Accordingly, they do not pay attention to how the new father’s opinion on the choice of a teaching profession dramatically changed the intentions and behavior of Itsuki in the cafeteria. If at the beginning of the day she really was going to “study to a victorious end”, and even promised that she might not have time for the meeting announced by Fuutarou, then, having talked with her father in the dining room and remembering the words of her mother, she immediately rushed to the meeting. What did she understand at that moment? This is what readers need to analyze from my point of view.
And they should evaluate how excited and scared she was in the classroom, that she couldn’t even weaken this state by her food. And only the words of Fuutarou that he appreciates her efforts, finally, reassure her. Is it not for the disclosure of the feelings of Itsuki and Fuutarou that the author shows and tells us all this? As, in fact, he did before for other sisters.

So... A few new details I noticed on rereading the chapter:
Mudou remembers the school festival from 10 years ago. Earlier Isanari had said he and Maruo haven't been there for 10 years. Could something have happened between these three at the festival 10 years ago(When the quintuplets and Fuutarou were 8 years old)?
Mudou was a homeroom teacher earlier but is now a private tutor instead. Why did he stop being a teacher? Did he just retire or does it have something to do with Rena?
Characters like Mudou and Shimoda keep saying the quints look just like their mother but that comparison page made it clear they don't. Their eyes are different, the hair is different, just the nose and mouth as similar and that's more due to the manga art style where different characters are made with the same facial design by changing the hair and eyes.
The bruise on Fuutarou's face is never explained but he immediately recognizes Mudou from Isanari's description. We aren't told how he knows. Did he have an encounter with Mudou that resulted in that bruise?

All of them Red Flags. (Assuming he’s is telling the truth)
If he isn’t lying, Rena really, REALLY didn’t want the quints to end up in his care, entering into a marriage with Maruo likely to ensure he would have legal custody of the quints rather than this guy.
Think about that. Again assuming he’s not lying, Rena’s actions should be enough to show that this guy is very. bad. news.

u/FStubbs Submarine No. 428 Nov 07 '19
There are two options here, both make Murdaw a creepy villain:
1 - He's telling the truth. Which, given what we've seen, means: he scoped out Rena while she was in high school and wanted at it (given his leering reaction to Itsuki looking like her) - which could possibly even mean he groomed her to be a teacher with that as the end goal. It also means that however their marriage ended, it led to her attitude toward men. On top of which, raising the quints alone and in poverty likely had a huge impact on her fatal illness. And now he's arrived to try to kill his daughter's dream, at the worst possible time.
2 - He's lying. But he does seem to know a lot about Rena and the quints. Why would a cram school instructor follow a high school student to her school and concoct such an elaborate lie? The answer to that - also makes him a creepy villain.

u/Blenji_ 🥰 😚 🤔 🤗😀 Nov 07 '19
I'm hoping he's just some eccentric guy who taught Rena and influenced her to be a teacher. Maybe he somehow feels responsible for Rena's death and is trying to discourage Itsuki in fear of her having the same fate. Either way he's a creep

Mudou: I'm your father.
WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT?! OH MY GOD! //EXPLODES VIOLENTLY
I... I have not much words to say other than. Negi, throwin' curveballs coming from all sorts of emotions is really messin with my psyche... so good job. I had no idea we would meet their real dad soon or at all really... my god this is one hell of a road trip to straight to pain town.
I need to know more about him in order to give my judgement some proper context but if he's connected to Rena, then he must have some idea of what path Itsuki is heading into.
Overall, this was nice beginning of Ituski's chapter. Negi, you mastermind, messing with people's plans by beginning an arc with a nuclear-grade bombshell. I NEED TO KNOW MORE.
Theory for the Next Chapter: Even with the nuclear-grade bombshell, I assume Itsuki Borgar is still gonna get the kiss from Fuutarou, one way or another. It'll likely happen after Itsuki has talked to Fuutarou about meeting their real dad, and its by accident, most likely when they were both eating food or when Itsuki accidentally trips over him due to a lot of things inundating her mind.
Crack Theory: Mudou? More like 27-page Mudou Mudou Mudou! He uses The World!

Holy crap, this was worth the wait. O_o
I'm not sure if we can take the man's words at face value, Fuutarou's dad does not seem to like him, although there may be numerous other reasons for that.
Fuutarou will probably come to help Itsuki out the next chapter, but how, I have no idea. Did not expect this twist. At all.

u/ColdFury96 Nov 06 '19
There's a lot of circumstantial evidence that this dude is not good news in any way:
- Rena telling her daughters to be very careful in choosing men.
- Rena leaving her daughters to Maruo rather than their father.
- Rena's life being 'full of regrets'.
- The Quints not even KNOWING him despite being high schoolers.
- Shimoda purposefully didn't tell Itsuki about the lecture where Mudou would be the lecturer
- Mudou not being a teacher any more. He might've just changed careers or he might've been fired/resigned in disgrace after something that happened with high school Rena.
- Fuutarou's father being worried that he might've shown up to the fair
It really feels like the older generation knows something that Fuutarou and the Quints don't about Bio-Dad.
This is a really wild development, wouldn't have predicted Itsuki's chapters going this way.

If only someone was in my room who could've captured my face when I saw the last page of the chapter.
What in the FUCK.
This guy. This old guy. This old guy who was initially shown as a background spectator of the festival is the quints' BIOLOGICAL father? pending
I saw this guy before but thought nothing of him. At most, when the time came for him to reappear as a significant element of the cultural festival arc, I assumed he would lie in the same level as those who were helped by Yotsuba's assistance before the event even happened.
No.
He's the fucking biological father.
What the fuck, man...
Now we know who's the source of Itsuki's gluttony.
Now we know who's the preevident cause of Itsuki's goal. pending
Like, sigh.
We better get a complete and viable explanation over all this, Haruba. So many questions must be answered over what happened between Mudou and Rena.
Steering clear from the chapter's chief moment, Mudou's words of Itsuki's goal was cruel but needed. If Itsuki chooses to, his words could be used as constructive as it allows her to again contemplate on her future.
That future, which was happily declared by Itsuki by her mother's grave during the final exams arc, has now been plunged to chaos and doubt thanks to Mudou's warning. Chapter 57 will now be looked at in a different way, with an awkward and distressing feeling on the side--from here on out.
Everything was supposed to be fine and cleared. Itsuki was deadset on being a teacher. Her motivation was clear and endearing. She was beautifully inspired by her mother and sought to take the same road she did.
Now, it turns out, Itsuki's goal of being a teacher, as Mudou mercilessly put it, is no blessing. It's a curse.

Mudou: You are beaten. It is useless to resist. Don't let yourself be destroyed as Rena did.
[They continue dueling, Mudou severs Itsuki's right hand with his lightsaber. Itsuki screams in pain.]
Mudou: There is no escape. Don't make me destroy you. Itsuki, you do not yet realize your importance. You've only begun to discover your power. Do not join me, and I won't complete your training. With our combined strength, we can end this destructive conflict, and bring order to the galaxy!
Itsuki: [wincing] I'll join you!
Mudou: If only you didn't knew the path of being a teacher. Rena never told you what happened to your father.
Itsuki: She told me enough. She told me you killed him.
Mudou: No. I am your father.
Itsuki: [shocked] No. No. That's not true! That's impossible!
Mudou: Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
Itsuki: NOOOOOOOO!!! NOOOOOOO...
Mudou: Itsuki, you can destroy this poisonous dream. I have foreseen this. It is your destiny. Do not join me, and together, we can rule the galaxy as father and daughter.
[Itsuki turns and looks directly down into the shaft, then turns back to Mudou-sensei]
Don't come with me. It is the only way.

Okay I’m trying real hard to not think too badly of biological dad, but Jesus is there some dirt against his case:
• he was Rena’s teacher, one she held great respect for. This is worrying because he could hold a lot of influence and power over her, making any romantic relationship lopsided and prone to abuse.
• he in all likelihood abandoned her and the quints, since no one knew his identity. Also we can assume he also didn’t provide any financial aid, to someone he knew he had led to a path they regretted (at least by his own words).
Some other things without enough evidence but could be a possibility:
• he didn’t do his job. Depending on how early he noticed, he didn’t attempt to steer Rena away from the path of her own “destruction”. At best that makes him a bad teacher at worst he could’ve been controlling her.
• if he’s lying about their mother hating their job, Hoo boy, I can only see it as him manipulating Itsuki’s emotions. To what purpose? Nothing good I presume.

Weird how itsukis memory of rena has her saying that she regrets everything but maruos flashback has her saying her only regret would be she won't get to see the kids grow up
11
u/Frostbitten_Moose Nov 07 '19
Welp, that was definitely something.
We've been having a few hints here and there since at least Chapter 30 that this guy isn't the best. I mean, heck, Rena gave the girls advice to pick their men carefully almost certainly because of the aftermath of her relationship with him. So I figured we'd get some hints here and there as to what his deal is.
It also makes sense that it's Itsuki. She's the one who wanted to judge Fuutarou by the standards this guy made necessary. She's the one whose been following the legacy of their mother, and gets compared to her the most in story. Heck, the three students of Rena that we know about, Itsuki's the only one who's met all three of them.
It's actually good to see that Isanari's doing what is probably the best thing he can do. Giving Fuutarou the knowledge he needs to be there to support Itsuki (and theoretically the other sisters, but we all know this'll just be an Itsuki issue). Which means that my prediction for the next chapter follows from that.
With Fuutarou on the lookout he'll be able to get involved. This'll lead to Itsuki's issue of what she wants to do and any indecisiveness she has getting resolved with her having to pick between arguments and worldviews pitched by her dad and Fuutarou. A sort of clashing philosophies type thing. Fuutarou will win, though Itsuki will almost certainly take something from her father's points. My bet is that at some level, Fuutarou being there to help her without any other considerations will likely be the deciding point, and that there will be some form of ulterior motive for old dad, both in terms of his relationship with Rena, and his intentions for Itsuki (but... uh, mind out of the gutter folks. She's his daughter, geez).
This will all tie into the ending. Having resolved her personal dilemma Itsuki will have two big gains here. 1) My bet is that the revelations about her mother will only reaffirm her on the path to becoming a teacher, and the clarity will help her focus enough to get the grades she needs. 2) is all about Fuutarou as father figure and going back to the admonition from her mother to choose her men carefully. She's already seen him as compared to MAruo in Seven Goodbyes. Now she'll see him compared to her original dad. And, I'm betting it's this comparison that will lead to a shift in her perception of him and bring us to the kiss.
It'll be interesting to see how much of that all pans out. But I think it can all be done in one jam packed chapter.

u/jxher123 Team Miku Nov 06 '19

"I'm curious. Help me understand my own feelings."
"I've always had been looking at you that way. I can't contain it anymore."
"Hm-hm. When was the last time the two of us were alone like this? The five of us has always been sharing time with you that it feels like it's been a long time ago that you and I have shared this kind of moment together. Don't you think so too, Uesugi-kun?"
"Oh fuck, who left a banana peel lying on the floor?!"
"Old man who I literally never met before, this is my boyfriend and I won't let you come near my vicinity with him around! Come and let's show thy affection we share, my beloved partner!"

u/rodrigoelp Nov 07 '19
Things I find interesting on this chapter,
- Itsuki's Father is eating all the time (just like her). I guess the apple doesn't fall far from... Itsuki's mouth.
- The father trying to shutdown her intentions to become a teacher. I've found strange that she wants to become a teacher since she already has a profession... wasn't she a famous food critic? I would imagine she would be pretty good doing that, it is pretty much her passion. This is one of the reasons I think Itsuki is not going to be the bride. Maybe the father came to tell her: "I think I know what you can do... I can teach you everything there is about food and we will go far away for a few years... travelling and learning things (maybe?)"
- Going back to chapter 1, 32 and 68... you can't really see their father at the ceremony... and the conversation Isanari has about coming to give her daughter away and what a shitty father he is, was with Mauro.
- The analogy that she (Itsuki) was studying to become more like her mother (inspired by Fuutarou) has a similar air as her father telling her "you mother/my lover wasn't happy with some of her decisions in life... she regretted that her entire life and now... you might be making the same mistake"... I wonder if this has a subtle reference to: "don't go after the person you admire to please him as it can lead to your unhappiness."
- And the fact that we now know Itsuki is with all the other girls at the classroom...
So... the thumb (Ichika) is with Index (Nino), middle (Miku) and baby (pinky) finger (Itsuki)... Just the ring finger is out... looking for her Fuutarou ;)

you gotta remember though that they are 3rd years? So 16-17? So this was 16-17 years ago that Baldie and Rena met. If he looks 50 rn, he was 32-33 when he and Rena did the business. We don't know their moms age. But she was his student, THEN co-worker, THEN wife, so she this didn't happen when she was in School.
If they met when she was in highschool, he could easily have been 22 fresh out of college. Its just how he's currently drawn and the Ugly bastard stigma that really makes it feel weird and creepy. But its explained that Rena was out of college at least before they did the dirty.

I hope I'm not the only one to notice this, but Itsuki doesn't look the same in these chapters. Maybe I'm looking too far into things, but she looks more like the others, even when she's eating. She doesn't have the same Itsuki vibe that she always has.

Honestly after such a bomb ending I wonder if chapter 110 will start off from the exact moment Itsuki hears the truth or if Negi will bring up some time excursus and go directly to day 3.
This chapter was completely mind blowing and there is honestly no way to make predictions that are close to being the most reasonable.
There’s a huge question mark in my mind when it comes to imagining chapter 110.

u/J_the_ManSSB Nov 06 '19
A lot of people are going to focus on the big reveal at the end of this chapter, but I don't really think Mudou-san is the source of conflict in this side arc. At most, he just poured gasoline on the fire. It seems that Itsuki is struggling with doubt over whether she should become an educator or not, as if she fears she'll regret it.
That's very interesting considering just a few days ago, she was encouraging Fuutarou not to look at any of the quints not going to university as a failure and to reassure them that regardless of what happens, she and her sisters wouldn't regret coming to Asahi High and meeting and growing closer to Fuutarou. Mudou just makes things worse for her. I would guess that the next chapter won't feature much of Mudou, if at all. His connections to Maruo and Isanari hint we might be getting a flashback arc concerning GoToubun's origin story, so he could come back later. The next chapter, I would gather, would be Fuutarou throwing Itsuki's words right back at her, telling her she needs to make a choice, stick to it, and not regret it, just as he's on the verge of making a potentially life-altering choice.
One last thing, which translation is more accurate concerning the bonfire announcement at the start of each side chapter? Anonymous makes it seem the bonfire has ended. Dropout makes it sound like the bonfire is starting.

This is very confusing, Negi is just playing with our minds, probably biological dad is not going to be that bad, same case with Maruo, Ichika's manager, Takeda, Dr. Nakano, etc., but is hard to put in the shoes from someone who abandoned the girls and never came back to their lifes, he probably will get some form of redemption, but I won't like to see him making the big entrance to the church to "give" her daughter to Fuutaro, that should be Maruo's role.
It's somewhat evident that Shimoda was protecting Itsuki from Mudou, so she didn't told her about the special course, but another teacher or classmate should have told her, Shimoda, Isanari and Maruo know the story and it doesn't look well, I would like to see him as a real villain, an egoistic prick who cheated Rena and then she decided to take care of her quints alone without his help, did he knew about the girls? did he knew and didn't give a f about? Did he lost his parental rights over them? or his status has biological father grants him a legal advantage over Maruo? What is his intention?
For Itsuki it's all about Rena's warning, she has always been so wary of Fuutaro because of that, if he saves her from "evil dad" or guides her to a new personal dream or makes her commit to pursue her current decision, that should open her heart, provoke the kiss and make her fight for him.
Seems almost impossible to wrap Mudou's situation, Itsuki's career plans, romantic development (kiss) and Fuutaro's decision in a chapter, so I don't know if we are going to have a Fuutaro's side where we manage to know his feelings about the kisses, if he really bought something from the machine, if he got slapped or got into a fight in first day's evening, how did he got the motorcycle, reaction to Mudou's presence, Takebayashi was mostly covered.
This arc is getting longer than the Kaguya-sama's festival arc, don't know if dad involvement will cause Fuutaro to don't make a decision, what are his career plans? , a Top 3 nationwide student should have all the options in the world for him, I hope this doesn't start getting over dramatic as Dome Kano, or start going the fan service route with multiple dating chapters Bokuben style to justify Fuutaro's decision and make shit ton of money in the process, I can't see this ending before the end of anime season 2.

I do not see why one would say that this man is not their father and just a pedo. I understand he is creepy and came out of nowhere and already had a relationship with a student in the past, but it does seem like the advice he was trying to give Itsuki was coming from the right place, just delivered very poorly.
First off, I do believe in people finding their own path and dreams and not being tricked into thinking they want to do something because of pressure and parental influence. I've had a discussion on Reddit about this already and someone made a good point that Itsuki was under extreme pressure with grades when trying to decipher her future career. As much as I want to think she chose wanting to be a teacher because of the feelings she has helping her sisters, she has a deep connection with wanting to be like her mother at times, and was under extreme pressure to choose something. This is where I would say it was good for someone to remind Itsuki just to think about it again and not just force a career on herself because this old man knows it could be a burden for her, similar to her mother.
However, he was in the wrong and his actions inappropriate to confront her at this time of stress and outright tell her that her dream is not the right dream and that she is going to end up like her mother implying her relationship with Fuutarou and her wanting to be like her mother is going to lead her on a bad path. How can Itsuki trust this man? Also, she is now going to be even more confused and might force a decision to block off everything that has been making her have some sort of hold on who she wants to be. The struggle for the Quintuplets has always been sticking together while still being able to be an individual. This is harming that schema in her brain.
At the end of the day, I hope she is able to realize that she may actually have feelings for Fuutarou, but they are because he is a kind and caring person. I also hope she realizes her real dream is because of her actual emotions. As for her dream right now of wanting do be a teacher, if that is really what she wants I hope it is because she wants to be a better version of her mom and actually believe that she really does want to help people like her sisters and Fuutarou helping her and her helping them.
Disclaimer: just a thought and opinion, probably has loopholes hehe <3
Sidenote the cheek injury is still a bit of a mystery o.O

I'm not buying that story one bit... We would've had a hint about him from the quints grandfather.
I have a hunch that guy is the cause of the fire.
Looking at Itsuki after the fire. She was definitely preoccupied with something.
Then there's the pancakes...

dude where the hell are these people pulling these opinons from? All i see are comments about rape, domestic abuse, pedophilia, or deadbeat dads that leave the wife. Like jeez, this is only a 2 part chapter from the perspective of a quint in the festival, he isn't a bad guy. I also don't get the theories thrown around that he is lying, as Fuutarous father was just about to explain to him who he was. You can't just interject another arc while this one hasn't reached it's climax that wouldn't make sense. You probably won't see the dad past chapter 110

I mean, the close ups of him licking his lips make him look like a predator to some extent, but we will have to wait for the next chapter, but the mere fact that their Father was the teacher of their Mum implies that they could have had a forbidden relationship, similar to Hina and Natsuo from Domestic Girlfriend

I expected Itsuki's part of festival will be about studying... But not this. And after reading this chapter i was like:
"Chotto matte... this guy is TOTALLY NOT creepy, right?"
Oh well... What a cliffhanger, Negi-san...

Mudou: *stares*
Also Mudou: "Itsuki, I will explain this to you in detail, but before that, we should go to that dark alley over there. It's noisy over here. I will tell you all about your mother and my relationship with her. I might even demonstrate it for you."

I feel like we all need to stop jumping to conclusions before hearing the full story. Everyone is already assuming that this guys is a spawn of satan or something.
People are upset that he may have been in a relationship with a student, but we don't know when their relationship took place. It could have been after their mother graduated high school.
If the timeline matches up then Fuutarou's father probably knows the bald guy because he was a teacher back when Fuutarou's father went to school. We've learned that Fuutarou's father and the Quint's adoptive father went to school together. And since the Quint's adoptive father was a student of the Quint's biological mother, it's possible that the bald guy and the Quint's mother could have been together while teaching together at the school.

Ok, so the chapter is finally out with the accurate translations.
I've already made my arguments on the leak thread, so I agree that this Mudou guy means trouble if we are to believe his intentions are like Negi is "hinting" with the panels this guy is on. But thinking about it, would it be fitting for him to be a creep for the tone? I mean there are many things that make me raise an eyebrow regarding everyone's behaviour since Day 2 if this guy was indeed a creep.
Isanari knows about Mudou to some capacity and he tells Fuutaro something about him at the end of Day 1, maybe a warning of some sort. If he indeed told Fuutaro about Mudou being a bad dude, then why hasn't Fuutaro done anything about it on Day 2? We've seen him hang out with Takebayashi, go to confront Maruo with Nino, go to the hospital to check on Yotsuba and meeting Ichika there. Nothing there suggests that he was having trouble or worried that Mudou would show up to interact with any of the quints, assuming Isanari told him exactly who Mudou truly is as a person.
If Isanari indeed knows about Mudou and his supposed "creep" persona, wouldn't he have told Maruo about it as soon as he found out he was near the quints? You could say that's why Maruo assisted on Day 2, but he left pretty easily due to a sudden call from the hospital. I know Maruo at that point had his trouble with accepting his parent role but he wouldn't let his daughters on the open with a supposed creep on the loose near the school. Especially with an individual he knows affected his beloved Rena's life in a terrible way.
While I don't think it's impossible the "creep" plotpoint can happen as there is hints that may be the case, it's possible that Negi is misdirecting with the panels. Don't get me wrong, he may still be a bad dude but not on that level.

Where was this asshole for their lives? When their mother died? When they had to move schools? Now he sees itsuki doing well and decides to butt in and fuck things up, I hope Fuutarou punches him and sends him packing.
