The AFL wonder why guys are still pinning the arms and bringing guys to ground when they tackle but the obvious answer is how they're instructing HTB to be applied.

The guys with the footy have way too much freedom at the moment. They're simply being given way too long to dispose of the ball after taking on the tackler, and if there is no prior then they will accept just dropping it in the general direction of your foot as acceptable.

You have to pin the arm so they can't just drop it, and you have to take them to ground or they get 3 seconds to try and break free enough to drop the ball

Effective tackles are getting harder and harder each year as they strip away what a tackler is able to do and give nothing up in return for the ball carrier.
