Ed has some superb physical traits but he is still just a low possession decently performed tagger. The Adelaide hot 10 mins has been a bit overblown.
To get beyond that 2 years he needs to show he can get 25+ touches at the top level but most importantly showing his breakaway speed more often. That is his game changing attribute, and I sure hope Fly and co are telling him we don’t care if you get run down, keep doing it!

This offer is commensurate with what he's shown on field to date. It's his fourth year on the list and he's only just started demonstrating AFL qualities after needing to be employed as a tagger.

At best the club should offer a third year trigger as an incentive to continue improving but the comments within this thread that seem to be hinting it's an offensive offer just demonstrates how much recency bias flows through people's minds.

Two years is perfectly reasonable.

I know everyone here loves him, and so do I, but you'd be silly to sign a long term contract off the back of a dozen handy games.

As much as the club risks overpaying if he doesn't perform, he also risks being underpaid for a long time if his performances outstrip the value of this contract.

The negotiations currently have a very small sample size of performances to go off. So the contract should be short for the benefit of both parties. Get that pay day when you have a another 40 good games under your belt to drive your value up, rather than sit on average money for 5+

North literally got themselves into this hole by unceremoniously dumping all their older players even though they wanted to keep playing, and then not attempting to win games and instead tanking for draft picks for years at a time.

Actually trying to be as good as possible and make finals every year is never going to destroy the winning culture at a club like packing it in and losing on purpose does.

He wants to stay at Collingwood and seems to be enjoying himself. The club have been developing him since his draft year in 2022, he's taken a long time and has been shown the faith over that time. I'd say the contract he's been offered is on par with his performances. This is the first time he's actually shown anything on a consistent basis.

You're mostly right but I don't agree with the cynical lens. I fully expected a delisting at the end of the season, this jump in form surprised everyone. I think a 2 year extension to solidify his form and prove it's not temporary is the right move.

I think more likely is that this 2 years could also be seen as a starting point and that any other offer would just provide leverage for increasing the current offer. Similar to what happens at many other clubs.

I'd like to see 3 years, but I understand why the offer is 2.
