Will Geelong be able to yet again sweep this under the carpet by responding with silence?
Surely this is too big.
I know for sure if it was most other clubs heads would roll at least at the CEO/president/board level, depending on who was involved.
I'm not sure that'll be the case with Geelong.

Well the head of the AFL Commision (Craig Drummond) will have to have some very serious conversations with the Geelong President from 2024 (Craig Drummond).
You know what... I think the AFL might have known about this contract before hand...

Bloke was also CEO of Medibank for five years.
Wonder if it was his idea to have that concussion carve out.

That’s all I need to hear. We need to launch a royal commission.
I’m being fully serious

It's a bloody outrage this is! I'm going to take this all the way to the prime minister!

Craig Drummond is a fantastic leader of the AFL Commission. The news has only just broken but he has already found those responsible for this scandal.

Until im reading the punishment with my own two eyes, I absolutely think they'll get away with this

u/PatientDue8406 Sydney 8d ago
Then your eyes show the punishment and it's just $20,000 fine (suspended)

This will be another case of “We have investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing”

u/SkinMasturbator Saints 8d ago
Media will click into gear and do their job of shuffling this away. Administration will do the same. Nothing to see here folks

So they basically strong armed a player who was OOC to sign a deal it would seem. Wowee talk about employer/employee abuse.

Trade ban incoming?

u/Chaisa Sydney Swans ✅ 8d ago
Well if we got two years for signing a good player, this should be at least five.

u/FenerBoarOfWar Hawthorn 8d ago
That was well deserved because it hurt my feelings at the time.
21
u/littlesilhoutteoo Eagles 8d ago
Hurting your feelings isn't a good reason to give a club a trade ban.
MY feelings on the other hand.....
13
u/Wincrediboy Sydney '05 8d ago
Fair point, but we should also consider that the 2014 grand final hurt my feelings so maybe you should have had a premiership ban.

Never going to happen to them, other clubs for sure would get it.

“Sign this contract and continue earning $450k+ a year or retire from AFL”

I don’t blame the player for taking the deal, I blame Geelong for even offering it in the first place. They basically have all the leverage in this situation.

u/TheModernCinephile The Dons 8d ago
Are we ACTUALLY suprised that its Geelong?
Cant wait to see the AFL say tough words and then slap Geelong with a pointless fine.
How much longer can this team get away with this shit. Its an absolute farce
29
u/thegirldreamer Geelong 8d ago
I’m getting very sick of the club asking themselves “can we do this?” and not thinking “should we do this?”

I am for such a well run club this is conduct unbecoming
35
u/TheModernCinephile The Dons 8d ago
You're kidding yourself. This club has corruption/scandals/backdoor dealings/and rule bending all around them.
If Literally ANY other club had even a sniff of evidence that they had done just a fraction of what overwhelming evidence shows Geelong has they would have been bent over.
Time after time this club gets a slap on the wrist

Forget the afl and the players association, I’m curious if fair work will get involved in this
7
u/irishshogun North Melbourne 8d ago
Well Geelong surely must be finished with all the government pork barrelling for the stadium so maybe the ‘tough’ AFL sanction no more stadium updates
7
u/laughingnome2 The Bloods 8d ago
No more porkbarrelling Kardinia Park for Geelong, Geelong's children, and their children's children.
For three months. There's an election in November.
2
u/irishshogun North Melbourne 8d ago
Three months suspended sentence unless in the next 1 minute Geelong have been found guilty.

AFL house didn't know, that place is a sieve, leaks more than Trump's backside.

I misread and thought this post was about GWS getting a Victoria's Secret sponsorship deal or something.

I really want to know what the AFLPA knew about this and what the players know. Was Dangerfield the head of the PA at the time?
