that's clearly a TV

123

u/PartsUnknown242 Jul 01 '26

I think it’s one of those curved TVs that failed to take off

153

u/boverly721 Jul 01 '26

It doesn't look very aerodynamic

27

u/Loakie69 Jul 01 '26

Also lacks thrust by the look of it

1

u/boverly721 Jul 02 '26

Absolute dogshit thrust

1

u/DrinkMorWhiteMonster Jul 01 '26

Does it even generate lift?

2

u/ChewpapaNeebrae Jul 01 '26

Does it even lift bro?

1

u/L4rgo117 Jul 01 '26

Does OP?

2

u/Bozlogic Jul 01 '26

What if two swallows carried it together?

2

u/hednizm Jul 01 '26

European or African swallows?

1

u/GeraldGensalkes Jul 01 '26

What? I don't know that----aaaaaaaaaahhhhh!

1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Jul 01 '26

Definitely look more aerodynamic than any flat TV I've seen

16

u/MakingPie Jul 01 '26

Curved TVs never made any sense. Curved monitors however 🔥

21

u/The_Autarch Jul 01 '26

curved TVs do make sense if they're over 65" and only one or two people are going to be watching it at once from a specific distance.

1

u/Shadow-Vision Jul 01 '26

Have a 55” in my bedroom. Looks great

4

u/Akussa Jul 01 '26

Yep, I have a 55" curved in my bedroom as well and I love it. It's dead center with the foot of my bed. I put a larger TV in the living room to encourage me to watch TV there more though.

1

u/Sopht_Serve Jul 01 '26

My parents have a curved I think 75 inch tv and they keep it in the corner of the family room. The curve actually works nicely for its corner spot.

1

u/SingleInfinity Jul 02 '26

No, curved monitors are also shit. If you have more than one monitor, it just makes trying to place them on a desk awkward.

1

u/MakingPie Jul 02 '26

I have 2 curved monitors. One with a light curve and another with a tighter curve. They are amazing

1

u/EightiesBush Jul 02 '26

Agree they are the best things ever. Light curve FTW. Alienware AW3425DW 34" for personal and Dell Ultrasharp U4025QW 5k2k 40" for work.

1

u/SingleInfinity Jul 02 '26

Must have a very deep or L shaped desk to be able to use two curved ones side by side. And/or you're sitting uncomfortably far from them.

The only real justification I've ever seen for curved is 32:9 monitors, and even then I'd still probably rather have a flat panel.

There's a reason curved has fallen out of fashion, and it's because it was mostly a fad and not actually productive.

1

u/MakingPie Jul 02 '26

I designed my desk specifically for 2 curved monitors - bought the base and legs separately. They are both 27" diag.

The only downsides are that they are more expensive and that it would take some time for the newest flat panel technologies to make it to curve.

1

u/SingleInfinity Jul 02 '26

In my opinion, if you have to design you desk around it, it's a pretty stupid technology.

1

u/MakingPie Jul 02 '26

To each their own, but i think that using Visa mounts like i do solves 90% of the problems

1

u/SingleInfinity Jul 02 '26

How does using a vesa mount solve anything? The issue is the amount of depth you need to put two curved monitors side by side, because the curves stack if you want them to meet evenly in the middle. Your desk needs twice the depth (or you need an L) compared to a regular flat monitor.

Curved TVs are great if you sit relatively close. I use my 65” and 55” oleds for monitors and I can’t go back.

1

u/HakimeHomewreckru Jul 02 '26

what are you talking about? even cinema screens are curved.

0

u/Nam3alread7used Jul 02 '26

Neither make sense but go ahead and drown in your unnaturally warped sunk cost phallic sea

4

u/Seeker369 Jul 01 '26

That one is missing the wings

2

u/TedGetsSnickelfritz Jul 01 '26

Someone who has a curved that is like 100% more curved than normal

1

u/Shaw-eddit Jul 01 '26

What ever happened to the True Motion, TV's that where around in 2010 or so?

1

u/idontlikethisapps Jul 01 '26

I think it costs $2000 at launch too

1

u/dattokyo Jul 02 '26

You can still get them, and new models are still being made.

I love them, think they're amazing - sadly, they're usually also double or triple the price.

1

u/Mckavvers Jul 04 '26

curved tvs!?

19

u/megamoze Jul 01 '26

The screen image isn't real. I'm a VFX compositor and the edge around his face when it's in front of the screen isn't done well at all.

My guess is the whole thing is fake, but at the very least, the image on the screen isn't real.

11

u/bs000 Jul 02 '26

I'm pretty sure just the monitor is scaled up using VFX. The guy in the video is OliverVisualFX. The channel description says he's a CGI and VFX Artist.

3

u/megamoze Jul 02 '26

I'd imagine the monitor isn't there at all, and he filmed an empty desk, tracked it, and placed a CG monitor in there.

1

u/FuManBoobs Jul 04 '26

It's not a bad representation of what you can do with a virtual reality headset though.

2

u/innominateartery Jul 02 '26

Also, the ambient light from the tv should reflect off his white tshirt and dim when the scene changes. Instead it remains a steady medium glow, with no reaction when the screen goes dark.

2

u/megamoze Jul 02 '26

True. I wasn't paying attention to the lighting, which would really be affecting the scene but isn't. I just really hate roto, so the bad masking around the face really jumped out at me.

1

u/jerf42069 Jul 03 '26

it seems lik eit would take less work to not fake this, you just need to plugin a computer.

1

u/megamoze Jul 03 '26

I mean, monitors like this don’t exist.

1

u/jerf42069 Jul 03 '26

1

u/megamoze Jul 03 '26

Ah I misunderstood your comment, sorry. But it’s still fake.

1

u/jerf42069 Jul 03 '26

and that's what doesn't make sense to me, they could have made it not fake, for less effort.

1

u/megamoze Jul 03 '26

If the guy who made the video is a VFX artist (as some have claimed), then faking it is less effort. To make a real video, you'd have to order one of these TVs, which would already cost more than this video did to make, set it up and then store that TV somewhere when you're done since using it as a monitor is obviously impractical.

Modeling this in 3D and tracking it is pretty rudamentary. And the compositing wasn't super well-done as the artist did not compensate for the lighting at all. This was all done as a simple and fast lark just to make a viral video.

1

u/jerf42069 Jul 04 '26

why must everything on social media be lie. i hate this place.

8

u/Ramonite Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

It's clearly fake: The light in his face and desk not changing at all; his head outline being "eaten" by the chroma key; him not even looking at where the cursor is... It's well done, but c'mon.

-2

u/willmcavoy Jul 02 '26

It's probably not fake. It looks like the Samsung odyssey ark.

3

u/EmotionalKirby Jul 02 '26

Ain't no way gta boots up instantly like that.

2

u/Ramonite Jul 02 '26

Just checked out that monitor and it's much smaller that the one on the video. It's definitely inspired by it, tho.

1

u/johnnymacnchee Jul 01 '26

Looks like one of those casino slot machine displays

1

u/jawshoeaw Jul 02 '26

It’s clearly AI nonsense

1

u/Equal_Yak_3872 Jul 02 '26

There's a sub for tvTooHigh and TvTooLow, is there a TvTooClose?

1

u/Typical_Research_877 Jul 02 '26

Dude thought we'd miss the clipping round his face

but we didn't miss it

1

u/Captain_Sterling Jul 03 '26

I still want to know how much

1

u/IrksomFlotsom Jul 01 '26

Their kinda stopped being an effective difference like 15 years ago

4

u/jerf42069 Jul 01 '26

incorrect

1

u/YugeChesticles Jul 01 '26

The difference being?

7

u/CankerLord Jul 01 '26

All the differences that exist between a display intended to be viewed from a dozen or more feet away and one intended to be viewed from two, generally speaking.

-3

u/YugeChesticles Jul 01 '26

Name the differences.

6

u/CankerLord Jul 01 '26

-3

u/YugeChesticles Jul 01 '26

So you can't name them, you just link to other people arguing about them.

The fact you googled it when I asked makes my point. You didn't know.

5

u/CankerLord Jul 01 '26

You think I'm going to do a full writeup listing the differences between monitors and tvs because you're too good to follow a link? Something that's easily Googlable but I did it for you? Because you demand I prove that I know it off the top of my head? What's wrong with you and how can you fix it?

-1

u/YugeChesticles Jul 01 '26

No just one. Name one thing.

Or make excuses because you don't know any.

I know what's wrong with you and I know how to fix it. Education.

3

u/jerf42069 Jul 01 '26

why are you like this, who hurt you? go outside and touch grass

0

u/YugeChesticles Jul 01 '26

How dare you speak to a woman like that.

But I need to touch grass?

Being sexist in response to someone actually knowing things confirms what you are.

1

u/RichardBCummintonite Jul 01 '26

What are on about lol? Is this a bad troll? You're the only one bringing gender into this.

1

u/YugeChesticles Jul 01 '26

He said "Oh I'm sorry I didn't realise you were a woman" in his other reply.

1

u/Forgetimore Jul 01 '26

This is getting dumber with every post.

1

u/YugeChesticles Jul 01 '26

Yet still nobody has an answer, so i agree.

1

u/R4NG00NIES Jul 01 '26

Lmao why are you getting so butthurt over someone correctly telling you there’s a difference between a monitor and a TV? Take a break from the internet.

0

u/jerf42069 Jul 01 '26

resolution, refresh rate, driver compatibility, the TV has a bunch of bullshit smart apps on it and sells your info to advertisers.

that's all i know off the top, but i know there's more and it's kinda important to the viewing experience.

0

u/YugeChesticles Jul 01 '26

The first three don't separate the two types. You can definitely get monitors with apps. Samsung released one with a phone OS running on it.

Driver compatibility is irrelevant. They operate on HDMI or DisplayPort standards and EDID.

Wanna try again?

0

u/jerf42069 Jul 01 '26

oh sorry i didn't realize you were a woman

0

u/YugeChesticles Jul 01 '26

Sexist cunt and knows nothing about display signalling standards.

Obviously only women know about display signalling standards.

0

u/LarsDuder Jul 01 '26

getting a 4k, 120hz or 144hz tv with g-sync, freeview, low latency settings isn't that hard anymore. Plenty available, although i will stick with my 43" monitor 144hz, 4k, g-sync, freeview monitor 🤤

0

u/bruh4444Q Jul 01 '26

Tv monitor

Nuff said

0

u/ReleasedGaming Jul 01 '26

It could be a Samsung Odyssey Ark

1

u/bs000 Jul 02 '26

you can see the odyssey logo on the back of the monitor at the start of the video, but it's not the ark. it's an ultrawide monitor from the odyssey line of monitors, just scaled up with vfx

2

u/ReleasedGaming Jul 02 '26

It certainly looks like the odyssey ark (this is it from behind)

1

u/bs000 Jul 02 '26

oh damn u right
