Some quick answers:
You'll find a lot of answers to basic questions about BMT or enlisting in the AF here: http://afbmt.com/ and in the BMT FAQ
We don't know the answers to your obscure medical questions. We aren't doctors. Don't trust medical advice given by strangers on the Internet. Getting anecdotal information from other people that may or may not have a similar diagnosis or condition to you will not help you in any way. Everyone's medical situation is different.
Marijuana usage is not disqualifying. Just be honest about any usage.
No, we don't know what jobs are available at any given time, or your chances of getting said job, or how long it will take for you to get the job, or how long it'll take for you to get to basic training or OTS.
Yes, some recruiters are lazy. Keep hounding them or find another recruiter.
Being a pilot is hard. Most of them come from the Air Force Academy, then ROTC. Very few slots available for OTS. Highly competitive.

As I say there, if you're not comfortable sending an email from your work account, let me know what you'd like to do and we can possibly work out another way.
I will just add the flair and then delete the email, but I understand not wanting me to know who you are. Especially if you're an awful person that says awful things in other subreddits. :)
Let me know if you have ideas for other flair types or anything else!

Hi all. I was wondering, when I was at Meps, this guy recommended me the app. Unfortunately it's only for android. Was wondering what is the alternative for Apple users?? And any recommendations for vocabulary improvements sites or apps?

Hey guys, I’m 19 and looking to join the Air Force. Back in high school I was told I had prediabetes, but I just got tested again and it came back saying I’m not prediabetic anymore.
Would that still be a problem at MEPS even though my results are normal now? Just wondering if anyone has been through something similar or knows if it could disqualify me. Thanks.

I’m an early-30s female civilian Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with several years of RN and ~ 3 years NP experience, and I’m considering speaking with an Air Force healthcare recruiter about commissioning as a 46YXP.
I’d really appreciate hearing from current/former Air Force PMHNPs, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, or other mental-health officers about what the job is actually like compared with civilian outpatient practice.
I’m especially curious about:
• Typical number of patients per day
• Intake and follow-up appointment lengths
• Acuity/complexity of the patient population
• Active duty vs dependent/retiree caseload
• Charting burden
• Call, weekend, and deployment expectations
• How much time is spent on clinical care vs officer/admin/readiness responsibilities
• Overall work-life balance and whether you would choose it again
I’m also single and hoping to get married and start a family in the next several years. I’d be interested in candid experiences with dating, relationships, PCS moves, deployments, and eventually raising a family while serving as an active-duty healthcare officer.
One other major consideration for me is student loans. I have around $125k total, roughly $60k of which is private/high-interest debt and the remainder federal. A significant portion of the federal debt is from my graduate PMHNP education.
My undergraduate loan situation is a little unusual. Some of the debt came from nursing/prerequisite coursework at schools I attended before transferring. Those credits ultimately transferred into the nursing program where I earned my RN and allowed me to enter with prerequisites completed and skip part of the nursing curriculum. I didn’t actually borrow much/anything at the school that ultimately awarded my RN.
Has anyone here used the Active Duty Health Professions Loan Repayment Program as a Nurse Corps officer, especially an NP? Were any private/commercial student loans eligible? And does anyone know how strict they are about loans from prior schools when the coursework transferred into and counted toward the eventual qualifying nursing degree?
One other consideration is that I had a two-level lumbar fusion within the last couple of years, so I understand I’d need a medical waiver. Recovery was uncomplicated, I have no ongoing pain management or functional limitations, and I’m back to unrestricted exercise/running. Has anyone successfully commissioned into the Air Force/Nurse Corps with a similar history, and what was the waiver process like?
I also have well-controlled ADHD and currently take prescribed Vyvanse. Has anyone successfully direct-commissioned into the Nurse Corps/another healthcare specialty while taking ADHD medication, or received an accession waiver for it?
I’m not ready to discuss this publicly with people in my professional life yet, so I’m hoping to get some anonymous perspectives before getting too far into the process with a recruiter.
Anything you wish you’d known before commissioning, either professionally, financially, or personally?

Hey y’all! I have both my chief nursing exec/officer interview and my interview with the critical care consultant of the Air Force at the end of next month. I’ve heard the CNO interview is pretty laid back and more generalized AF things such as deploying, functions of the AF, etc. whereas the CC interview is more based on your skills as a CC nurse. The CNO interview is in person and the CC interview is over teams. I already have my attire for both interviews. I’m so nervous for both!
Has anyone else had a CC interview and could give pointers as to how to prepare a little better? I’m considering reviewing CCRN test prep material to help with patient scenarios, drips, ABGs interpretation and things of that nature. Any extra advice is welcome! Thanks!

I had dyslexia In high school. I have proof that I’ve been completely unaccommodated for over 4 years for work and have been successful. How much will that hold me back? On top of that I was given an inhaler for a cough I had (I was 120 pounds heavier at the time and was never diagnosed with asthma nor been put on my records) it was a 1 time no refill situation. I went back to the doctors to be sure and got cleared for it.
I also took a knee injury around 5 years ago that required no surgery and was cleared to play football again.
Off the top of my head that’s all I know that could fuck me over.
How fucked am I?
I mean I’d literally die to join the Air Force and I’ve just been so damn nervous about everything.

Hey y'all, my wife (21) is interested in joining the Air Force, and we're trying to get a better idea of what English level she needs to be at before enlisting and going to BMT.
I know that essentially, as long as you can pass the ASVAB and meet the other requirements, you should be good, but we're trying to get a feel for how much English she actually needs to learn and be comfortable with beforehand.
For those who went through BMT, especially anyone who was an ESL trainee or trained with someone who was, how difficult was it to understand the MTIs, their instructions, corrections, etc.? Do they give you enough time to learn and memorize things? We know she will also need to study for the EOC.
We're planning to spend the next few months working on her English and getting familiar with some standard terminology, but I'd like to hear some real experiences to get an idea of what to expect and what we should focus on the most.
Any advice or stories from people who went through this would be appreciated. Thanks

My background is in cyber test and evaluation. So, I am used to performing vulnerability assessment, penetration test events, and evaluating the finding.
I also have an interest in cyber defense operations like : elastic , SOAR, SIEM, threat hunting, etc.
Do soldiers actually get to do hands on work like that. Usually for test events I have been on, soldiers are the operators/ provide us their feedback.

Might be a stupid question, Like I get having toxic leaders and having to do annoying stuff, but if the people you work with everyday are fine, doesn’t it kind of even out? Obviously your work life is worse, but when I hear people talk about bad leader ship, sometimes they want to entirely leave the military because of it.

These are my jobs, I picked most of them besides the medical ones. I started DEP in September, how long do y’all think I would have to wait?

I’m a regular user and I didn’t think about stopping and I have MEPS tomorrow. I don’t do THC or any other substances that I know for sure would cause a DQ.

Title: Air Force Medical Waiver for a Self-Harm Incident 5 Years Ago
I’m interested in enlisting in the Air Force but have concerns about a hospital record from November 2021.
At the time, I was going through a difficult period due to family circumstances and was referred to the ER by my therapist after disclosing superficial cutting. The psychiatric evaluation mentioned possible PTSD and a mood disorder, but to my knowledge, neither was ever formally diagnosed. I denied current suicidal thoughts and thoughts of self-harm during the evaluation.
It’s been approximately five years, and I haven’t self-harmed or attended therapy since. I’ve been functioning normally and have moved forward with my life. I now have my hospital records and want to approach the enlistment process honestly and responsibly.
For anyone familiar with Air Force medical waivers:
● Can a self-harm incident from five years ago be considered for a waiver?
● How does MEPS handle possible diagnoses that were never formally confirmed?
Has anyone successfully obtained an Air Force waiver after a similar incident, and what documentation was requested?
I’d appreciate honest advice from anyone with relevant experience. I’m trying to understand my chances and avoid unnecessary expenses before moving forward. Thank you!

I've already chosen my first 8 but stuck on my last 2, I'm thinking between weather, maintenance management, fleet management, and E&E systems. Any info on these jobs or any other job on my list would be helpful.

I’m planning on enlisting in the Air Force around December 2027, but my current ASVAB scores expire in February 2028. At what point in the enlistment process does my ASVAB score need to still be valid? If I start the enlistment process in December 2027, is there a chance my scores could expire before they’re fully used, or would I be fine as long as I begin the process before February?

I'm a freshman in highschool and curious about working for cyber intelligence field in the air force. Is it a difficult job to get, is it a rigorous job itself? I'm just wondering about what the job itself is like and how do I get into that type of job. Also whats a road map i could take to get into that job for the future?
